  • To overcome the drawbacks of conventional load control method and displacement control method, the so-called volume control method was developed by utilizing a pressure node added into a finite shell element. In this study, an improved volume control method which can analyze path-dependant behaviors of RC shell structures subjected to cyclic loading effectively is developed. RC shell structures are discretized with layered shell elements and in-plane two dimensional constitutive equations for concrete and reinforcements are implemented for each layer of the shell elements. Validity of the so-called path dependant volume control method is also verified by comparing analysis results with other data including experimental results.

  • This study is conducted to clarify the effect of internal pressure on the deformation and collapse behaviors of wall thinned elbow under in-plane bending moment. Thus the nonlinear three-dmensional finite element analyses were performed to obtain the moment-rotation curve of elbow contatining various wall thinning defects located at intrados and extrados under in-plane bending (closing and opening modes) with internal pressure of $0{\sim}15MPa.$ From the results of analysis, the effect of internal of collapse moment of elbow on the global deformation behavior of wall thinned elbow was discussed, and the dependence of collapse moment of elbow on the magnitude of internal pressure was investigated under different loading mode, defect location, and defect shape.

  • The rubber seal is a part inserted into servo cylinder to keep the air pressure constant. In order for efficient movements of the servo cylinder, the frictional coefficient of the rubber seal needs to be minimized while the sealing is maintained. In this work the friction characteristics of rubber seal specimen are tested on metal plate at various conditions. The experimental conditions include roughness level, applied pressure, lubrication, and rubbing speed. The design of experiment approach is taken to assess the effect of each parameter. The nonlinear frictional response of the rubber is applied to the FEM model simulating the servo cylinder movement. The result demonstrates that precise optimization of the servo cylinder movement must be preceded by preliminary experiments coupled with the theory and FEM model.

  • Design method of a robust impedance control is proposed for the kinematically redundant manipulators. To achieve this objective, we first use the momentum feedback disturbance observer(MFDOB) scheme which can handle the nonlinear dynamics of a manipulator in Joint space. An extended task space formulation to describe the behaviors of task and null spaces of redundant manipulator is employed. Using the extended task space formulation and disturbance observer scheme, a robust impedance control method is designed. The performance of the proposed extended impedance controller is verified through experiments with a planar three links direct-drive manipulator.

  • The seismic excitation test results of an isolated test structure for artificial time history excitation are summarized for structural modeling of the isolated structure and isolation bearing. Based on the actual dynamic behaviors and the seismic responses of the test model, linear and bilinear models for isolators are suggested. Seismic analyses are performed and compared with those of the seismic tests. The developed bilinear model is well applicable only to large shear strain area of isolators.

  • The strain localization of concrete is a phenomenon such that the deformation of concrete is localized in finite region along with softening behavior. The objective of this paper is to develope a consistent algorithm for the finite element modeling of localized zone in the analysis of the strain-localization in concrete. For modeling of the localized zone in concrete under strain localization, a general Drucker-Prager failure criterion which can consider nonlinear strain softening behavior of concrete after peak-stress is introduce. The return-mapping algorithm is used for the integration of the elasto-plastic rate equation and the consistent tangent modulus is derived. Using finite element program implemented with the developed algorithms, strain localization behaviors for the different sizes of concrete specimen under compression are simulated.

  • In this paper, to design Human Powered Aircraft(HPAC) with high aspect ratio wing which behave with large displacement under lift distribution causing a failure itself, then steel wire has been designed to prevent its failure. unit load method is used to calculate reaction force on wire and Optimal Triangle(OPT) membrane is employed to analyze its main wing spar with large displacement. EDISON CSD solver, linear static analysis and co-rotational nonlinear static anaysis both using OPT membrane produce behaviors of beam for each case of wire location about main wing spar, and aerodynamic coefficient also, by using aerodynamic analysis tool.

  • The secondary arcing phenomenon can be hardly modeled for computer simulation due to its particularly nonlinear characteristics. This paper describes a new computer modeling technique for the secondary arc which can be implemented with the EMTDC. The computer model proposed is based on realistic are conduction behaviors through both FIT and variable resistor modules which is supported in the EMTDC. Simulation results using the proposed technique are compared with some previous studies.
