  • In active noise control (ANC) systems, the error-reduction performance of the conventional Filtered-X Least Mean Square (FXLMS) algorithm may be affected by nonlinear distortions in the secondary path such as in the power amplifiers, loudspeakers and transducers. In this paper, a nonlinear FXLMS algorithm with high error-reduction performance is proposed to compensate for undesirable nonlinearities in the secondary-path of ANC systems by employing the inverse Volterra filtering approach. In particular, the proposed approach is based on the utilization of the conventional P-th order inverse approach to nonlinearity compensation in the secondary path of ANC systems. Finally, the simulation results showed that the proposed approach yields a better nonlinearity compensation performance for the ANC systems with a nonlinear secondary path than the conventional FXLMS.

  • High power amplifier (HPA), which is used in transmitter of wireless communication systems, usually works in near saturation point in order to achieve maximum efficiency. In this region, HPA can introduce undesirable nonlinear effects. In this paper, we present a polynomial modeling method for efficient techniques to compensate for nonlinear distortion introduced by nonlinear HPA. Proposed polynomial predistorter inverses actual amplifier. Namely, we derive polynomials of amplifiers from analytical method and the electrical parameters in the data sheet of an actual amplifier and then can derive polynomial predistorter by inversing them. It is an effective and a simple method to compensate nonlinear distortion. SSPA(Solid-state power amplifier) is considered. We also analyze the effects of predistortion on the SER performance of communication system with 16-QAM modulation format. The results have shown the efficiency of this model.

  • A tracking controller which can improve the performance of nonlinear electrohydraulic position control system is designed and implemented. The method is based on augmenting the system with integrators, obtaining the feedback control law which stabilizes the linear part of the original nonlinear system, and then reajusting the feedback gains using the deseribing funtion method to eliminate the limit cycle in the steady state. The proposed control law is implemented using OP amplifiers, and step and ramp response tests are carried out in the electrohydraulic servomechanism. The results show the improvement in both rransient and steady-state response.

  • In active noise control (ANC) system, the convergence behavior of the Filtered- X Least Mean Square (FXLMS) algorithm may be affected by nonlinear distortion in the secondary path as in the power amplifiers (e.g., saturation), loudspeakers and transducers. This distortion may yields degrading the error reduction performance of the ANC systems. In this paper, the authors of this paper propose a more improved and stable FXLMS algorithm to compensate for the undesirable nonlinearity of the secondary-path, whereby the third-order Volterra model was employed for the identification of the nonlinear secondary-path. In particular, the proposed approach was based on the modification of the conventional FXLMS algorithm. Finally, the simulation results showed that the proposed approach yields better convergence property and more stable performance in the ANC systems.

  • A novel adaptive phase calibration method is proposed for nonlinear amplifiers. Based on the adaptive process of simple phase vector calculations, the AM/PM distortion can be significantly reduced for various input power. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated for up to 80 % improvements in AM/PM distortions, compared with the distortion of a conventional amplifier. Moreover, by means of an additional envelope-compensation technique, the improvement of the adjacent channel power ratio (ACPR) is presented.

  • In fields of controlling acoustical noises, the overall adaptive control system is nonlinear due to the loudspeaker, amplifiers, converters, and microphones, etc. and the performance of noise control is decreased by the extent of nonlinearities, so an adaptive control system compensating nonlinear distortions is needed. In this paper, a new multi-channel adaptive noise controller was proposed, which was combined with the adaptive compensator to effectively linearize nonlinear distortions in the overall adaptive control system. Through computer simulations, the proposed adaptive compensator could linearize the nonlinear distortions and the proposed noise controller had better capability of controlling the noises than the conventional LMS controller.

  • A tracking controller which can improve the performance of nonlinear electrohydraulic position control systems is designed and implemented. The method is based on augmenting the system with both compensated integrator and additional integrator, obtaining the feedback control law which stabilizes the linear part of the original nonlinear system, and then readjusting the feedback gains using the describing function method to eliminate the limit cycle in the steady-state. The proposed control law is implemented using OP amplifiers and electronic components, and step and ramp response tests are carried out in the electrohydraulic servomechanism EHS-160. The results show the improvement in both transient and steady-state responses.

  • This paper presents the effect of spectrum sharing/overlapping in a heterogeneous OFDM system with nonlinear High Power Amplifier (HPA). According to the spectrum sharing strategies, the achievable rate performances are analyzed. In the non-orthogonal spectrum sharing, we address how the portion of the overlapped or overlaid spectrum band and the nonlinear properties of HPA affect the system performance and accordingly, propose the optimized spectrum sharing strategies.

  • For the testing of nonlinear power amplifiers, this paper suggests an approach to design optimized multisine signals that could be substituted for the original modulated signal. In the design of multisines, complex coefficients should be determined to mimic the target signal as much as possible, but very few methods have been adopted as general solutions to the coefficients. Furthermore, no solid method for the phase of coefficients has been proven to show the best resemblance to the original. Therefore, in order to determine the phase of multisine coefficients, a time-domain nonlinear optimization method is suggested. A frequency-domain-method based on the spectral response of the target signal is also suggested for the magnitude of the coefficients. For the verification, multisine signals are designed to emulate the LTE downlink signal of 10 MHz bandwidth and are used to test a nonlinear amplifier at 1.9 GHz. The suggested phase-optimized multisine had a lower normalized error by 0.163 dB when N = 100, and the measurement results showed that the suggested multisine achieved more accurate adjacent-channel leakage ratio (ACLR) estimation by as much as 12 dB compared to that of the conventional iterative method.

  • This paper deals with the state observer-controller which observes unmeasurable state variables of the system and then uses the estimated values as feedback signals. The linearized model is deduced from the nonlinear electrohydraulic servo system. The 4th order analog linear observer-controller and the 2nd order digital one are modelled and implemented using OP amplifiers and IBM PC/XT, respectively. The two observer are experimentally used in the control of an electrohydraulic system. The results are satisfactory in estimation performance and in tracking performance to command signal.
