In this study, nonlinear vibration analysis of the cylindrical orthotropic porous thin plate under V-shaped tension distribution with wire impact damping is considered. We make dynamic model of the plate under the tension using commercial FEM code and reduce the number of its degrees of freedom using dynamic condensation. The dynamic model of wire is obtained as lumped mass model from string equation. And then we analyze the nonlinear vibration of the plate including the impact phenomenon between the plate and the wire using the reduced mass and stiffness matrices of the plate and lumped model of the wire. The contact phenomenon between them can be described by impact contact elements composed of contact stiffness coefficients from Hertzian contact theory and contact damping coefficients from restitution coefficient between them. And we discussed the results of nonlinear vibration analysis for variations of their design parameters.
Early wearable robotic devices were big, powerful and manipulator-like. Recently, various applications of wearable robotics have shown a greater demand for lower weight and compliancy. One approach to achieve these objectives is the use of novel actuators such as twisted string actuators. These actuator are very light, quiet, mechanically simple and compliant. Therefore, they can drastically decrease the weight and size of robotic systems such as exoskeletons. However, one drawback of this actuator is its nonlinear transmission ratio, which is established as a ratio between the angle of twisting of the strings and their resulting contraction. In this paper, we propose a transmission mechanism with rotational motion as the output incorporating a twisted string actuator (TSA). The designed mechanism allows the linearization of the relationships between the input and output displacements and forces of a TSA. The proposed design has been validated theoretically and through a set of computer simulations. A detailed analysis of the performance of the proposed mechanism is presented in this paper along with a design guideline.
In this paper we propose a Neuro-Fuzzy modeling method using mGA for complex nonlinear system. mGA has more effective and adaptive structure than sGA with respect to using the changeable-length string. This paper suggest a new coding method for applying the model's input and output data to the number of optimul rules of fuzzy models and the structure and parameter identifications of membership function simultaneously. The proposed method realize optimal fuzzy inference system using the learning ability of Neural network. For fine-tune of the identified parameter by mGA, back-propagation algorithm used for optimulize the parameter of fuzzy set. The proposed fuzzy modeling method is applied to a nonlinear system to prove the superiority of the proposed approach through compare with ANFIS.
The explicit nonlinear dynamic relaxation method (DRM) is applied to the nonlinear geodesic shape finding analysis by introducing fictional tensioned 'strings' along the desired seams with a three or four-node membrane element. A number of results from the numerical example for the nonlinear geodesic shape finding and patterning analysis are obtained by the proposed method to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the developed method. Therefore, the proposed geodesic shape finding algorithm may improve the applicability of a four-node membrane element to membrane structural engineering and design analysis simultaneously for the shape finding, stress, and patterning analysis.
In [1], we studied the PDE system with time-varing delay. Time delay occurs due to loosening in a high-speed moving axially directed membrane (string, belt, or plate) at production. Our purpose in this work derives a mathematical model with internal time delay. First, we consider the physical phenomenon of axially moving membrane with respect to kinetic energy, potential energy and work done. By the energy conservation law in physics, we get the second order nonlinear PDE system with internal time delay.
This paper deals with large deformation post-buckling of a linear-elastic and hygrothermal beam with axially nonmovable pinned-pinned ends and subjected to a significant increase in swelling by an alternative method. Analytical approximate solutions for the geometrically nonlinear problem are presented. The solution for the limiting case of a string is also obtained. By coupling of the well-known Maclaurin series expansion and orthogonal Chebyshev polynomials, the governing differential equation with sinusoidal nonlinearity can be reduced to form a cubic-nonlinear equation, and supplementary condition with cosinoidal nonlinearity can also be simplified to be a polynomial integral equation. Analytical approximations to the resulting boundary condition problem are established by combining the Newton's method with the method of harmonic balance. Two approximate formulae for load along axis, potential strain for free hygrothermal expansion and periodic solution are established for small as well as large angle of rotation at the end of the beam. Illustrative examples are selected and compared to "reference" solution obtained by the shooting method to substantiate the accuracy and correctness of the approximate analytical approach.
Vortex-induced oscillation is a type of aeroelastic phenomenon, to which extended structures such as long-span bridges are most susceptible. The vortex-induced vibration (VIV) behaviors of a concerned bridge were investigated conventionally in virtue of wind tunnel tests on string-mounted sectional models. This necessitates the building of a linkage between the response of the sectional model and that of the prototype structure. Although many released literatures have related to this issue and provided suggestions, there is a lack of consistency among them. In this study, some theoretical models describing the vortex-induced structural motion, including the linear empirical model, the nonlinear empirical model and the modified (or generalized) nonlinear empirical model, are firstly reviewed. Then, the concept of equivalent mass density is introduced based on the principle that an equal input of energy should result in identical structural amplitudes. Based on these, the theoretical linkages between the amplitude of a section model and that corresponding to the prototype bridge are discussed with different analytical models. Theoretical derivation indicates that such connections are dependent mainly on two factors, one is the presupposed shape of deformation, and the other is the theoretical VIV model employed. The theoretical analysis in this study shows that, in comparison to the nonlinear empirical models, the linear one can result in obvious larger estimations of the full bridges' responses, especially in cases of cable-stayed bridges.

In the construction of successful fuzzy models for nonlinear systems, the identification of an optimal fuzzy model system is an important and difficult problem. Traditionally, sGA(simple genetic algorithm) has been used to identify structures and parameters of fuzzy model because it has the ability to search the optimal solution somewhat globally. But SGA optimization process may be the reason of the premature local convergence when the appearance of the superior individual at the population evolution. Therefore, in this paper we propose a new method that can yield a successful fuzzy model using VmGA(virus messy genetic algorithms). The proposed method not only can be the countermeasure of premature convergence through the local information changed in population, but also has more effective and adaptive structure with respect to using changeable length string. In order to demonstrate the superiority and generality of the fuzzy modeling using VmGA, we finally applied the proposed fuzzy modeling methodof a complex nonlinear system.
Genetic algorithms are powerful optimization methods based on the mechanism of natural genetics and natural selection. Genetic algorithms reduce chance of searching local optima unlike most conventional search algorithms and especially show good performances in complex nonlinear optimization problems because they do not require any information except objective function value. This paper presents a new model based on sexual reproduction in nature. In the proposed Sexual Reproduction model(SR model), individuals consist of the diploid of chromosomes, which are artificially coded as binary string in computer program. The meiosis is modeled to produce the sexual cell(gamete). In the artificial meiosis, crossover between homologous chromosomes plays an essential role for exchanging genetic informations. We apply proposed SR model to optimization of the design parameters of Single-sided Linear Induction Motor(SLIM). Sequential Unconstrained Minimization Technique(SUMT) is used to transform the nonlinear optimization problem with many constraints of SLIM to a simple unconstrained problem, We perform optimal design of SLIM available to FA conveyer systems and discuss its results.
This paper analyzes properties of the recently developed nonlinear optimization method, Dynamic Encoding Algorithm for Searches (DEAS) [1]. DEAS locates local minima with binary strings (or binary matrices for multi-dimensional problems) by iterating the two operators; bisectional search (BSS) and unidirectional search (UDS). BSS increases binary strings by one digit (i.e., zero or one), while UDS performs increment or decrement to binary strings with no change of string length. Owing to these search routines, DEAS retains the optimization capability that combines the special features of several conventional optimization methods. In this paper, a special feature of BSS and UDS in DEAS is analyzed. In addition, a effective global search strategy is established by using information of DEAS. Effectiveness of the proposed global search strategy is validated through the well-known benchmark functions.
