  • Output feedback passivation problem is studied when the given system is not minimum-phase or does not have relative degree one. Using a parallel connection with an additional dynamics, the authors provide a dynamic output feedback control law which renders the composite system passive. Sufficient conditions are presented under which the composite system is output feedback passive. As an application of the dynamic passivation scheme, a point-to-point control law for a flexible joint robot is presented when only the position measurements are available. This provides an alternative way of replacing the role of the velocity measurements for the proportional-derivative (PD) feedback law. The performance of the proposed control law is illustrated in the simulation studies of a manipulator with three revolute elastic joints.

  • Designing fuzzy controller, there are difficulties that we have to determine fuzzy rules and shapes of membership functions which are usually obtained by the amount of trial-and-error or experiences from the experts. In this paper, to overcome these defects, genetic algorithms which is probabilistic search method based on genetics and evolution theory are used to determine fuzzy rules and fuzzy membership functions. We design a series compensation fuzzy controller, then determine basic structures, input-output variables, fuzzy inference methods and defuzzification methods for fuzzy controllers. We develop genetic algorithms which may search more accurate optimal solutions. For evaluating the fuzzy controller performances through experiments upon an actual system, we design the fuzzy controllers for the speed control of a DC series motor with nonlinear characteristics and show good output responses to reference inputs.

  • A newly designed haptic interface enables an operator to control a remote robot precisely. It transmits position information to the remote robot and feeds back the interaction force from it. A control algorithm of haptic interface has been studied to improve the robustness and stability to uncertain dynamic environments with a proposed contact dynamic model that incorporates human hand dynamics. A simplified hybrid parallel robot dynamic model fur a 6 DOF haptic device was proposed to from a real time control system, which does not include nonlinear components. LQC/LTR scheme was adopted in this paper for the compensation of un-modeled dynamics. The recovery of the farce from the remote robot at the haptic interface was demonstrated through the experiments.

  • This paper presents control designs using neural networks (NN) for a XY positioning table. The proposed neurocontroller is composed of an outer PD tracking loop for stabilization of the fast flexible-mode dynamics and an NN inner loop used to compensate for the system nonlinearities. A tuning algorithm is given for the NN weights, so that the NN compensation scheme becomes adaptive, guaranteeing small tracking errors and bounded weight estimates. Formal nonlinear stability proofs are given to show that the tracking error is small. The proposed neuro-controller is implemented and tested on an IBM PC-based XY positioning table, and is applicable to many precision XY tables. The algorithm, simulation, and experimental results are described. The experimental results are shown to be superior to those of conventional control.

  • In this paper, a new time-domain adaptive predistortion scheme is proposed to compensate for the nonlinearity of high power amplifiers (HPA) in OFDM systems. A complex Wiener-Hammerstein model (WHM) is adopted to describe the input-output relationship of unknown HPA with linear dynamics, and a power series model with memory (PSMWM) is used to approximate the HPA expressed by WHM. By using the PSMWM, the compensation input to HPA is calculated in a real-time manner so that the linearization from the predistorter input to the HPA output can be attained even if the nonlinear input-output relation of HPA is uncertain and changeable. In numerical example, the effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed and compared with the identification method based on PSMWM.

  • In this study, a driver model based on the lead-lag controller for stable maneuver of a highly nonlinear, multi-dimensional, numerically stiff multibody vehicle model according to the various handling test requirements such as steady-state cornering, double lange change, etc. is presented The lead-lag controller is developed with lead and lag compensation. which use the transfer function with cross-over frequency by frequency response method. The proposed driver model is applied to a vehicle model in steady-state and slalom maneuver to verify its effectiveness and validity. The results show that the proposed path control strategy is excellent both in pursuing the desired course and stability of the vehicle.

  • A systematic design method for PDC(Parallel Distributed Compensation)-type continuous time Takagi-Sugeno(T-S in short) fuzzy control systems which have inaccessible states is developed in this paper. Reduced-dimensional fuzzy state estimator is introduced from existing T-S fuzzy model using the PDC structure of Wang et al. [1] LMI(Linear Matrix Inequalities) problems which represent the stabililty of the reduced-dimensional fuzzy state estimator are derived. Pole placement constraints idea for each rules is adopted to determine the estimator gains and they are also revealed as LMI problems. these LMI problems are combined with Joh et al's [7][8] LMI problems for PDC -type continuous time T-S fuzzy controller design to yield a systematic design method for PDC -type continuous time T-S fuzzy control systems which have inaccessible states.

  • The control systems with friction cause the steady state error and slow response, because friction is a sensitive to the change of system condition and has highly nonlinear characteristics. To overcome these problems and do precise position control for a ball-screw system, we use Coulomb friction estimator and the sliding mode control(SMC) to compensate its negative effect. The applied SMC for tracking position has a characteristics of robust stability and reducing chattering, and is derived from the Lyapunov stability theorem and reaching condition. Compensating the estimated friction torque to the bounded disturbance term of the SMC's equivalent control input, it has a tracking performance better than the PID from the experimental results.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive sliding mode control scheme for an autopilot design of Skid-to-Turn (STT) missiles. The feedback linearization controller eliminates nonlinear terms in STT dynamics and makes the entire system linear. But the modeling errors in dynamics and the external disturbances exert bad influence on the performance of the feedback linearization controller. To handle these uncertainties, an adaptive control scheme is developed, where a bound of the uncertainties is estimated by an adaptive law based on a sliding surface. The asymptotic output tracking is proved by using the Lyapunov stability theory. Simulations for STT missiles illustrate the validity of the proposed scheme.

  • This paper deals with the transfer alignment problem of SDINS(StrapDown Inertial Navigation System) subjected to roll and pitch motions of the ship. Specifically, to reduce alignment errors induced by measurement time-delay and ship body flexure, an error compensation method is suggested based on delay state augmentation and DCM(Direction Cosine Matrix) partial matching. A linearized error model for the velocity and attitude matching transfer alignment system is first derived by linearizing the nonlinear measurement equation with respect to its time delay and augmenting the delay state into the conventional linear state equations. And then DCM partial matching is properly combined to reduce effects of a ship's Y axis flexure. The simulation results show that the suggested method is effective enough resulting in considerably less azimuth alignment errors.
