The economic scale of nuclear application is a good indicator to show how the radiation technology is useful and contribute to improve public welfare and living standard. Recent research in Japan shows that the economic scale of nuclear field was 4,112 B¥ for radiation application(46%) and 4,741 B¥ for nuclear energy (54%) playing a role of "two wheels of one cart" in nuclear field and the total 8,853 B¥ constitutes 1.8% of gross domestic products (GDP). The radiation application consisted of 2,295 B¥ (56%) in industry (semiconductor, sterilization, nondestructive testing, radiation processing of tires, etc.), 1,538 B¥ (37%) in medicine (therapy and diagnosis such as X-ray, nuclear medicine, computed tomography, etc.) and 279 B¥ (7%) in agriculture (mutation breeding, food irradiation, sterile insect technique, etc.). Radiation application by ${\gamma}$-ray, electron beam and ion beam is steadily increasing in Japan.

Aluminum Stranded Conductors Steel Reinforced (ACSR) in overhead transmission lines have slowly degraded due to pollutants in the air for a long period of time, so in the 2000, a number of them has been exceeded over their forecasted useful life. Since most of them are faced with assessment their present conditions in regard to economical maintenance, in this paper, we have suggested a method in order to evaluate the current condition of aged conductors by using dominant parameters such as elapsed years, environment index, and conductor configuration. A diagnostic system for predicting the deterioration grades corresponding to the lifetime of aged conductors is described, which is designed as an Adaptive Neuro-fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) based on knowledge and experiences of experts. Applying this diagnostic system to practical transmission lines in domestic, it is shown that the system can be effectively used as a guide to perform nondestructive diagnosis and economical operation for old ACSR conductors.

Currently almost all in-service-inspection techniques, applied in domestic nuclear power plants, are partial to field inspection technique. These kinds of techniques are related to managing nuclear power plants by the operation of foreign-produced inspection devices. There have been so many needsfor development of native in-service-inspection device because there is no native diagnosis device for nuclear power plant inspection yet in Korea. In this research, we developed several core techniques to make an automated ultrasonic pipe inspection system for nuclear power plants. A high performance multi-channel ultrasonic pulser/receiver module, an A/D converter module and a digital main CPU module were developed and the performance of the developed modules was verified. The S/N ratio, noise level and signal acquisition performance of the developed modules showed proper level as we designed in the beginning.

As one of promising solutions to overcome high oil price and energy crisis, the construction market of high value-added LNG plants is spotlighted world widely. The purpose of this manuscript is to introduce domestic activities to develop risk assessment technology against overseas monopolization. After analyzing relevant specific features and their technical levels, risk assessment program, non-destructive reliability evaluation strategy and safety criteria unification class are derived as core technologies. These IT-based convergence technologies can be used for enhancement of LNG plant efficiency, in which the modular parts are related to a system with artificial optimized algorithms as well as diverse databases of facility inspection and diagnosis fields.

In this paper, we reconstructed the cross-sectional images of two phantoms simulating a petrochemical process from gamma radiation measurements. Three different weight functions for EM image reconstruction algorithm were built and compared with histograms representing the variance of the homogeneity of the phantom material, The radiation source, $^{137}Cs$, collimated by a lead with 5 mm diameter aperture and the measurement was made with a lead shielded 1inch NaI detector. As a result, the method taking into account the beam area in each pixel for a weight function showed the best resolution among the three methods.

We have developed software for converting the volumetric voxel data obtained from X-ray computed tomography(CT) into computer-aided design(CAD) data. The developed software can used for non-destructive testing and evaluation, reverse engineering, and rapid prototyping, etc. The main algorithms employed in the software are image reconstruction, volume rendering, segmentation, and mesh data generation. The feasibility of the developed software is demonstrated with the CT data of human maxilla and mandible bones.

In the present study, the dependence of ultrasonic phase velocity on porosity and frequency in cancellous bone was predicted using the Biot model and the modified Biot-Attenborough (MBA) model for propagation in fluid-saturated porous media. It was also compared with previously published measurements in human and bovine cancellous bones in vitro. It was shown that the phase velocity in cancellous bone decreased with increasing porosity and frequency The dependence of phase velocity on propagation angle in cancellous bone as predicted using the Schoenberg model together with the Biot model and tile MBA model which were modified to include the effect of angle. The theoretical models used in the present study advance our understanding of the interaction between ultrasound and cancellous bone and can be expected to be usefully employed for the diagnosis of osteoporosis.
The wooden Ksitigarbha Triad Statues (Treasure No. 1749) of Shinhungsa temple in Sokcho are enshrined in the inside of the Myeonbujeon Hall. The Statues are highly damaged physical weathering which are crack and exfoliation. Also, the Statues were deteriorated by chemical and biological weathering. This study carried out nondestructive method as deterioration map, ultrasonic measurement, X-ray and endoscopy survey for deterioration evaluation and conservation plan. As a result, Ksitigarbha Statue coated by dust and various pollutants. And gold-gilt of Statue's surface has peeled off. Head part of Mudokguiwang Statue was discolored from water leak in Myeongbujeon Hall. Domyeongjonja Statue is highly damaged by insects. Result of endoscopy, there were bee hives in the inside of the Statue. Therefore, we suggest that these Statues have need to do conservation treatment on the basis of diagnostic results.

In this paper, 3-dimensional electromagnetic numerical analysis is performed about the eddy current(EC) array probe characteristic which is the next generation probe for accurate diagnosis of steam generator(SG) in nuclear power plants(NPPs). ASME(American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Standard and X-probe combo calibration standard tube are selected for acquisition of eddy current testing(ECT) signals and this result of compared with the real test signals for reasonability of result. Based on the analysis result of calibration standard tube, ECT signals that are about the defects of pitting, stress corrosion cracking(SCC), multiple SCC and wear is obtained. Material of specimen was Inconel 600 which is usually used for SG tubes in NPPs. The operation frequency of 300 kHz were used. The signal characteristics could be observed according to the various defects. The results in this paper can be helpful when the ECT signals from EC array probe are evaluated and analyzed.

Corrosion of rebar embedded reinforced concrete is the main cause of collapse and degradation of reinforced concrete structure. Degradation occurs in reinforced concrete structures from corrosion caused by the Chloride that the damage other than the severe degradation of the structure in terms of maintenance and construction when the huge expense required and deciding terms is hard. Therefore, early detection of rebar corrosion is important for efficient maintenance and repairing and planning. Meanwhile, how to evaluate the corrosion of the non-destructive measurements have been used a lot. In particular CM-II (corrosion meter) is used to measurement the natural potential, polarization resistance and the resistivity of the concrete, but has some disadvantages. Embedded mini-sensor has been developed in order to overcome these disadvantages. So Measurement corrosion for using the mini-sensor compares with the measured results CM-II (corrosion meter), the developed mini-sensor verify the validity.
