  • In this study the bonding quality evaluation of FRP honeycomb structure was performed by the ultrasonic C-Scan method and stress wave factor measurements. These NDT techniques could be well applied to the disbonding detection of FRP honeycomb structures. Especially, stress wave factor (SWF) measurement is expected to be a useful technique in field applications.

  • Leak detection testing for the pipeline system was performed by the acoustic emission method. It was found that the detected signal spectrum was influenced by the frequency response of sensors and pressure changes. AE parameters and frequency spectrum distributions were used to analyze the leak signals. The slope rise time of AE parameters were the important factors for distinguishing leak signals. The amplitude of leak signal was more affected by the changes of leak, rate and pressure than those of leak type.

  • One of the major causes of concrete pavement deterioration is the loss of support due to erosion and pumping of subbase and subgrade. In this study, procedures for the detection of voids under concrete pavement slab are presented using nondestructive test method such as FWD(Falling Weight Deflectometer) and GPR(Ground Penetration Radar). The deflection responses of concrete slab obtained in FWD field test are analysed for determining the presence of void. Also, reflection responses in GPR test are interpreted. It was concluded that these procedures are available for detecting the viods under concrete pavement slab.

  • Ultrasonic testing is one of the most useful NDT method for detection of microdefect in the opaque materials. Recently, many applications of the ultrasonic techniques have been extended widely in the new field like electron is and advanced materials. From the result of the experiment, we have hardly found out a crack in the internal parts of the resin and a delamination between chip and resin because of poor performance of the system.

  • In this study the disbonding tests of adhesively bonded Al/Al honeycomb structures were performed by ultrasonic methods. Ultrasonic C-scan squiter method and ultrasonic surface wave attenuation measuring method were applied for the detection of skin/core disbonding. The bonding quality of Al/Al honeycomb structures could be well evaluated by properly controlled ultrasonic parameters.

  • 본 연구는 콘크리트내의 철근의 굵기와 깊이를 동시에 측정할 수 있는 기술 개발에 관한 것이다. 개발된 탐촉자는 기존의 철근 탐지기와 다른 구조를 지니는데 감지 코일이 세 개로 구성되어 있다. 따라서 세 가지 신호를 동시에 측정하여 분석함으로써 철근의 굵기와 깊이를 분석하도록 되어 있다. 탐촉자 내 코일의 전압과 위상 변화를 임피던스 분석기를 이용하여 조사하고 그 전달함수의 괘적을 분석하였다. 여기 코일 내부에 장착된 감지 코일은 알려진 바와 같이 단순한 변화 형태를 나타내었으나 여기 코일 밖에 장착된 코일의 경우 변화 곡선이 복잡하였다. 실제 철근탐지 실험은 일반 와전류 탐상기를 이용하였는데 여러 가지 철근의 굵기와 깊이에 대하여 실험하였다. 철근 깊이에 따른 신호 변화는 임피던스 분석기에 의한 전달함수 변화에서 나타낸 것과 비슷한 경향을 나타내었으며 감지 코일마다 다른 전압의 변화를 이용하여 철근의 굵기와 깊이의 동시 측정이 가능하였다.

  • A SQUID magnetometer or a SQUID gradiometer can be used to measure the field or gradient distribution respectively. We describe the magnetic dipole model of the eddy current for the nondestructive evaluation. Such a theoretical calculation of the magnetic dipole field produced by a deep flaw in matalic materials can be used for aerospace and transportation fields.

Damage Detection in Lab-Scaled Underwater PVC Pipes Using Cylindrical Lamb Waves

  • This study presents a nondestructive test for underwater PVC pipes. To use guided ultrasonic waves, specially denoted by cylindrical Lamb waves, a test setup was made in a water tank using the pitch and catch mode and specimens were made to give artificial cutouts located in the circumferential direction of the pipes. Total three states of damaged levels were considered to see how the guided waves interact with the defects. For the experimental adjustments, three different pipe diameters (60, 90, 114 mm) were tested, and two factors - incident angle (10 and $40^{\circ}$) and distance (50 and 200 mm) - were tried. From the results, regardless of the diameters and two experimental factors, it is shown that the degrees of defects were recognized through amplitude and arrived time of the very first part of the received cylindrical Lamb waves. Between amplitude and arrived time, it is found that the amplitude gives more sensitive results.

Nonlinear Time Reversal Focusing and Detection of Fatigue Crack

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the detection and location of nonlinear scattering source due to the presence of fatigue crack in a laboratory specimen. The proposed technique is based on a combination of nonlinear elastic wave spectroscopy(NEWS) and time reversal(TR) focusing approach. In order to focus on the nonlinear scattering position due to the fatigue crack, we employed only one transmitting transducer and one receiving transducer, taking advantage of long duration of reception signal that includes multiple linear scattering such as mode conversion and boundary reflections. NEWS technique was then used as a pre-treatment of TR for spatial focusing of reemitted second harmonic signal. The robustness of this approach was demonstrated on a cracked specimen and the nonlinear TR focusing behavior is observed on the crack interface from which the second harmonic signal was originated.

  • This paper deals with ACSR(Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) inner corrosion detection using a detector which automatically runs on an ACSR transmission line and inspects the inner corrosion of the conductor by utilization of the nondestructive eddy current test. And the relationship between the corrosion grades and the tensile strength can be estimated by means of this test. According to corrosion appearance and development of ACSR, the impedance change of the eddy current coils is theoretically verified. And then specifications And performances of the detector are described. Experimental procedures and desirable test results are reported. In conclusion, this detector can realize the nondestructive detecting of an ACSR inner corrosion. Upgrading the maintenance effciency and improving the reliability of transmission line would be expected by this nondestructive test method.
