  • Magnoliae Flos, Xanthii Fructus and Menthae Herba have long been used for treatment of nasal disease in Korea. The 70%-ethanol extracts of Magnoliae Flos, Xanthii Fructus and Menthae Herba were used externally in order to investigate the effects on a few strains of microbe, nasal alergy and inflammation, rhinitis and sinusitis. When the proportion of Magnoliae Flos : Xanthii Fructus : Menthae Herba was 2 : 2 : 1, the results showed great significance compared to the control group(non-extracts) in treatment of various nasal disorder.

  • EFI system has severe problems of heavy HC emission generated by large fuel droplets and non-uniform air-fuel mixture. Therefore, various atomization techniques are being developed in order to reduce HC emission. The one among those techniques is ar shrouded injector, which has better atomization ability and demands less power loss than other atomizers. Thus, the development of this air shrouded injector can be major topic to cope with international emission regulation. Nevertheless, there are few domestic and foreign studies which deal with air shrouded injector. In this study, the spray characteristics and atomization mechanism of the representative air shrouded injector were analyzed using PDPA system. From experimental results, the definite standards of air shrouded injector's spray characteristics were established.

  • Diamond films have been growth by the hot-filament chemical vapor deposition (HFCVD) using CH4 and H2 gaseous mixture on the Si substrate. The experimental results indicated that the deposits were pure diamond and contained no amount of non-diamond phases such as amorphous carbon or graphite. The diamond films were deposited well at the conditions: the filament temperature of 210$0^{\circ}C$, the substrate temperature of 77$0^{\circ}C$, the CH4 concentration of 1.76%, the reactor pressure of 30 torr, and the deposition time of 7 hr. At this growth condition, the maximum deposition rate was 2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/hr. X-ray diffraction patterns and texture coefficient results showed that preferred orientation of the diamond films was {111} orientation under all experimental conditions.

  • HFC-134a is currently used as the refrigerant in automobile air-conditioner, replacing the ozone depleting refrigerant CFC-12. Although HFC-l34a has no ozone depletion potential, it has a relatively high global warming potential, approximately 1300 tins that of CO$_2$ over a 100 year time horizon. Therefore, HFC- l34a does not seem to be a perfect alternative refrigerant due to high GWP. For this reason, non-azeotrope refrigerant mixture have been proposed as a long-term and drop-in alternative to HFC-l34a in the automobile air-conditioning system which has variable operating conditions with changes in RPM and pressure ratio. In this study,OS-l2a of which thermodynamic properties are similar to those of HFC-l34a is selected among the mixed refrigerant. HFC-l34a and OS-l2a are examined experimently by the performance test in the same automobile air-conditioning system.

  • Seven cyanobacteria strains (Anabaena macrospora NIERl0016, Oscillatoria sp. NIER10042, Microcystis aeruginosa NIER10015, M. ichtyoblabe BIER10025, BIER10040, M. novacekii NIER10029, M. wesenbergii NIER10068) were tested with four rRNA - targeted oligonucleotide probes labelled with horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and specific for cyanobacteria. Non- fluorescent detection of hybridization signal was used. The hybridization with artificial mixture of cyanobacteria have shown the possibility to use 2 species-specific probes in duplicate hybridization and detection with different colored substrates.

  • The proportional likelihood ratio order is an extension of the likelihood ratio order for the non-negative absolutely continuous random variables. In addition, the Lindley distribution has been over looked as a mixture of two exponential distributions due to the popularity of the exponential distribution. In this paper, we first recalled the above concepts and then obtained various properties of the Lindley distribution due to the proportional likelihood ratio order. These results are more general than the likelihood ratio ordering aspects related to this distribution. Finally, we discussed the proportional likelihood ratio ordering in view of the weighted version of the Lindley distribution.

  • A time-energy transient characteristics of pulsed neutron transport problem with an inelastic kernel in the fast domain is solved exactly with a continuous energy transfer operator. A discrete time eigenvalue is found which is asymptotically dominant. The complete solution consists of three parts: a time-energy separable mode which is asymptotically dominant and a non-separable mode which is made up by two parts; a pure energy slowing-down transient and a mixture of time and energy transient which is negligible asymptotically.

  • According to recent Korea Electric Power Company report, yearly distribution line brass cramp bolts failure summed up to 4,400 cases emerging as one of main local break-down causes. Naturally, the need for the investigation was proposed To determine the root cause of the cramp bolt failures, mechanical and metallurgical investigation were performed for 90 samples which collected from various sites. For the understanding of the geometric characteristics, stress distribution was evaluated by CAE program and proof load of each bolts was tested. The SEM&EDS was used for metallurgical investigation. Through the investigation, the root causes of failures were confirmed. All damaged bolts showed intergrannular fracture mode and the all fractured bolt showed ß phase morphology contrast to the a&ß mixture morphology of the non-damaged samples. Additionally, EDS analysis confirmed the existence of lead rich layer on grain boundaries.

  • Intramolecular association is an important contribution to the overall hydrogen bonding in supercritical fluid systems, especially in systems of colloidal and biological interest. Amphiphile systems, especially micelle and microemulsion systems, showed highly non-ideal behavior due to the intermolecular association and intramolecular association. The objective of this research is to present a lattice fluid equation of state that combines the quasi-chemical nonrandom lattice fluid model with modified Veytsman statistics for intra + inter molecular association to calculate phase behavior for mixture containing surfactant systems. The present EOS could correlate the literature data well for mixtures containing nonionic surfactant systems.

  • In this research, we propose a speaker identification system using a kernel method which is expected to model the non-linearity of speech features well. We have been using principal component analysis (PCA) successfully, and extended to kernel PCA, which is used for many pattern recognition tasks such as face recognition. However, we cannot use kernel PCA for speaker identification directly because the storage required for the kernel matrix grows quadratically, and the computational cost grows linearly (computing eigenvector of $l{\times}l$ matrix) with the number of training vectors I. Therefore, we use greedy kernel PCA which can approximate kernel PCA with small representation error. In the experiments, we compare the accuracy of the greedy kernel PCA with the baseline Gaussian mixture models using MFCCs and PCA. As the results with limited enrollment data show, the greedy kernel PCA outperforms conventional methods.
