Arc sensor is indispensable to arc welding robot systems for compensating the joint misalignment such as mismatch of the workpiece, ill-conditioned positioner and thermal deformation during welding. Furthermore, the amount of these mismatches cannot be preivously expected, and changes from time to time. There are many kinds of seam trackers for correcting the welding path of the robot, where non-contact type sensors arc prevalently used in arc welding robot systems. In this study, an arc sensor was developed for GMA and FCA welding robot system. Since the arc sensor uses the arc characteristics during welding, the operating principle of the arc sensor must be adjusted according to the welding condition. Especially in GMA welding with the $CO_{2}$ shielding gas, the welding arc is not stable because of the short circuit and non-axial globular transfer mode of the molten droplet. In this study, the 2nd order least square curve fitting algorithm was adopted and the applicability of this algorithm was investigated for robot welding systems. For easy usage of the arc sensor, the operating parameters for arc sensor were limited to eight which can be easily determined by the operator.

In this study, a non-linear FEM model is presented to predict the static flexural performance of precast bridge decks with ribbed joint and is verified with previous experiment results through comparison. The several theory of material properties were applied to each mechanical properties in FEM model and FEM model's input variables were determined through experiment result and parametric study. The FEM results showed good accuracy in predicting the structural performance of the specimens and FEM model's average error rate was 5%. Also, each specimen's cracking aspect and failure mode can be predicted through FEM's plastic strain distribution. Thus, this FEM model can be used effectively for predicting the ultimate behavior and parametric study to development of design formula for joint.

Reinforced concrete (RC) buildings in Taiwan have suffered failure from strong earthquakes, which was magnified by the non-ductile detailing frames. Inadequate reinforcement as a consequence of the design philosophy prior to the introduction of current standards resulted in severe damage in the column and beam-column joint (BCJ). This study establishes a finite element analysis (FEA) of the non-ductile detailing RC column, BCJ, and three-story building that was previously tested through a tri-axial shaking table test. The results were then validated to laboratory specimens having the exact same dimensions and properties. FEA simulation integrates the concrete damage plasticity model and the elastic-perfectly plastic model for steel. The load-displacement responses of the column and BCJ specimens obtained from FEA were in a reasonable agreement with the experimental curves. The resulting initial stiffness and maximum base shear were found to be a close approximation to the experimental results. Also, the findings of a dynamic analysis of the three-story building showed that the time-history data of acceleration and displacement correlated well with the shaking table test results. This indicates the FEA implementation can be effectively used to predict the RC frame performance and failure mode under seismic loads.
MPEG and VCEG have constituted a collaboration team called JCT-VC(Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding) and have been developing the HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding) standard. The next generation video coding standard HEVC shows higher compression rate compared with the H.264/AVC standard, but the encoder computational complexity of the HEVC encoder is significantly high. In order to reduce this computational complexity in the HEVC encoder, a fast prediction unit decision is proposed. The proposed fast prediction unit decision method reduces the encoder complexity by skipping the remaining prediction units if the current prediction unit does not have any non-zero quantized transform coefficient. The proposed method reduces the encoder computational complexity by 50.3% comparing with HM6.0 but it maintains the same level of coding efficiency.

This paper presents the structural characteristics of slab-column connections by using nonlinear finite element analysis. FEA considering material non-linearity was performed to investigate average column strain, failure mode, principal stress distribution, and steel yielding conditions for various slab-column members. In addition, to investigate alternative methods for improving the strength of interior column-slab joints, some specimens were provided with different reinforcing types of high-strength concrete puddling, high-strength column longitudinal steels, dowel bars, and high-strength concrete core. To make certain of the reliability of the analytical program, analysis results for concrete material model developed and two specimens with and without puddling were compared with experimental results. It was found that providing the alternative reinforcing methods in the slab-column joint results in a significant improvement in performance. This includes an increase in the axial compressive strength, greater loading stiffness, and ductility.

This paper describes the experimental study on the structural behavior of the joint plane between a RC(Reinforced Concrete) wall and a SC(Steel Plate Concrete) wall under out-of plane flexural loads and in-plane shear loads. The test specimens were produced with L and I shape to assess efficiently flexural and shear behavior of the structures. In order to consider dynamic loads such as earthquake, cyclic loading tests were carried out. As results of the out-of plane flexural tests, ductile failure mode of vertical bars was shown under a push load and the failure load was more than nominal strength of the specimen. And the latter test was performed to verify the variation which was composition presence of horizontal bars in the SC member. The test results showed that capacity of the specimens was more than their nominal strength regardless of composition presence of horizontal bars.

Several theoretical and analytical formulations for the prediction of shear strength in reinforced concrete (RC) beam-to-column joints have been recently developed. Some of these predictive models are included in the most recent seismic codes and currently used in practical design. On the other hand, the influence of the stiffness and strength degradations in RC joints on the seismic performance of RC framed buildings has been only marginally studied, and it is generally neglected in practice-oriented seismic analysis. To investigate such influence, this paper proposes a numerical description for representing the cyclic response of RC exterior joints. This is then used in nonlinear numerical simulations of RC frames subjected to earthquake loading. According to the proposed strategy, RC joints are modelled using nonlinear rotational spring elements with strength and stiffness degradations and limited ductility under cyclic loading. The proposed joint model has been firstly calibrated against the results from experimental tests on 12 RC exterior joints. Subsequently, nonlinear static and dynamic analyses have been carried out on two-, three- and four-storey RC frames, which represent realistic existing structures designed according to old standards. The numerical results confirm that the global seismic response of the analysed RC frames is strongly affected by the hysteretic damage in the beam-to-column joints, which determines the failure mode of the frames. This highlights that neglecting the effects of joints damage may potentially lead to non-conservative seismic assessment of existing RC framed structures.

Nowadays, non-pollution energy sources have been strongly needed because of the exhaustion of fossil fuels and serious environmental problems. Because wind energy can be enormously obtained from natural atmosphere, this type of energy has lots of advantages in a economic and pollution point of view. This study has established the aerodynamic and structural design procedure of the rotor blade with an appropriate aerodynamic performance and structural strength for the 500㎾ medium class wind turbine system. The aerodynamic configuration of the rotor blade was determined by considering the wind condition in the typical local operation region, and based on this configuration aerodynamic performance analysis was performed. The rotor blade has the shell-spar structure based on glass/epoxy composite material and is composed of shank including metal joint parts and blade. Structural design was done by the developed design program in this study and structural analysis, for instance stress analysis, mode analysis and fatigue life estimation, was performed by the finite element method. As a result, a medium scale wind turbine rotor blade with starting characteristics of 4m/s wind speed, rated power of 500㎾ at 12m/s wind speed and over 20 years fatigue life has been designed.

Device-to-Device (D2D) communication underlaying macro-small cell networks, as one of the promising technologies in the era of 5G, is able to improve spectral efficiency and increase system capacity. In this paper, we model the cross- and co-tier D2D communications in two-tier macro-small cell networks. To avoid the complicated interference for cross-tier D2D, we propose a mode selection scheme with a dedicated resource sharing strategy. For co-tier D2D, we formulate a joint optimization problem of power control and resource reuse with the aim of maximizing the overall outage capacity. To solve this non-convex optimization problem, we devise a heuristic algorithm to obtain a suboptimal solution and reduce the computational complexity. System-level simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, which can provide enhanced system performance and guarantee the quality-of-service (QoS) of all devices in two-tier macro-small cell networks. In addition, our study reveals the high potential of introducing cross- and co-tier D2D in small cell networks: i) cross-tier D2D obtains better performance at low and medium small cell densities than co-tier D2D, and ii) co-tier D2D achieves a steady performance improvement with the increase of small cell density.

The present paper briefly describes the space frame element and the fundamental strategies in computational elastic bifurcation theory of geometrically nonlinear, single load parameter conservative elastic spatial structures. A method for large deformation(rotation) analysis of space frame is based on an eulerian formulation, which takes into consideration the effects of large joint translations and rotations with finite deformation(rotation). The local member force-deformation relationships are based on the beam-column approach, and the change in member chord lengths caused by axial strain and flexural bowing are taken into account. and the derived geometric stiffness matrix is unsymmetric because of the fact that finite rotations are not commutative under addition. To detect the singular point such as bifurcation point, an iterative pin-pointing algorithm is proposed. And the path switching mode for bifurcation path is based on the non-negative eigen-value and it's corresponding eigen-vector. Some numerical examples for bifurcation analysis are carried out for a plane frame, plane circular arch and space dome structures are described.
