Development of robust Calibration for Determination Apple Sweetness using Near Infrared Spectroscopy

  • The sweetness (。Bix) of fruit is the main quality factor contributing to the fruit taste. The brix of the apple fruit can be measured non-destructively by near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, allowing the sweetness grading of individual apple fruit. However, the fruit quality is influenced by various factors such as growing location, producing year, variety and harvest time etc., accordingly the robust NIR calibration is required. In this experimental results are presented the influence of two variations such as growing location and producing year of apple fruit in establishing of calibrations for sweetness, and developed a stable and highly accurate calibration. Apple fruit (Fuji) was collected every year from 1995 to 1997 in 3 different growing locations (Andong, Youngchun and Chungsong) of Kyungpook in Korea. NIR reflectance spectra of apple fruit were scanned in wavelength range of 1100∼2500nm using an InfraAlyzer 500C (Bran+Luebbe) with halogen lamp and PbS detector. The multiple linear regression and stepwise was carried out between the NIR raw spectra and the brix measured by refractometer to select the best regression equations. The calibration models by each growing district were well predicted to dependent sample set, but poorly predicted to independent sample set. Combined calibration model using data of three growing districts predicted reasonable well to a population set drawn from all growing districts(SEP = 0.69%, Bias=-0.075). The calibration models by each harvest year were not transferable across harvest year, however a combined calibration model using data of three harvest years was sufficiently robust to predict each sample sets(SEP = 0.53%, Bias = 0.004).

동적하중 하에서 석회암의 변형 및 파괴거동에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Deformation and Failure Behavior of Limestones under Dynamic Loadings)

  • 동적하중 하에서 암석의 변형거동 및 파괴강도는 발파, 지진 또는 암반돌출의 지진동에 의한 지하구조물의 안정해석에 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 스플릿 홉킨슨 압력봉(SHPB) 충격실험시스템을 석회암시료의 일축압축시험과 압열인장시험에 적용하여 고변형률과 동적강도 평가를 수행하였다. 충격봉의 발사속도를 제어하여 파괴강도 이하 동적응력 상태에서의 석회암시료의 동적응력-변형거동을 분석하였다. 시료 내 파괴여부 및 파괴양상을 파악하기 위하여 Micro-focus X-ray 단층촬영을 수행하였다. 동적 압축강도 실험결과, 석회암시료의 동적압축강도는 변형율속도 의존성을 보였으며, 동적 압축파괴강도는 140 MPa 이상으로 평가되었다. 동적 압열 인장 실험결과, 석회암시료의 동적 압열인장강도는 21 MPa 이상으로 정적 압열인장강도보다 3배 이상 높은 것으로 평가되었다.

가역투자율에 의한 첨단 페라이트강의 잔여수명에 대한 비파괴평가 (Nondestructive Characterization for Remanent Life of Advanced Ferritic Steel by Reversible Permeability)

  • 가역투자율을 이용하여 차세대 에너지 설비 재료로 사용되는 첨단 페라이트강의 잔여수명을 비파괴적으로 평가하고자 하였다. 가역투자율 측정법은 가역투자율 값이 자기 히스테리시스 루프의 미분과 동일하다는 이론을 기반으로 하게 된다. 측정 원리는 한 가진진동수로 가변된 락-인 증폭기를 사용하여 탐지코일에 유도된 조화성분들의 진폭 값을 기본으로 한다. 가역투자율의 피크 간격, 비이커스 경도 그리고 인장강도는 시효된 샘플들에서 시효시간이 증가함에 따라서 감소하였다. 가역투자율의 피크 간격과 라손-밀러 파라미터의 관계를 통해 첨단 페라이트강의 잔여수명을 비파괴적으로 예측하는 것이 가능해진다.

Use of Chlorophyll a Fluorescence Imaging for Photochemical Stress Assessment in Maize (Zea mays L.) Leaf under Hot Air Condition

  • The objective of this study was to find a rapid determination of the hot air stress in maize (Zea mays L.) leaves using a portable chlorophyll fluorescence imaging instrument. To assess the photosynthetic activity of maize leaves, an imaging analysis of the photochemical responses of maize was performed with chlorophyll fluorescence camera. The observed chlorophyll imaging photos were numerically transformed to the photochemical parameters on the basis of chlorophyll a fluorescence. Chlorophyll a fluorescence imaging (CFI) method showed that a rapid decrease in maximum fluorescence intensity ($F_m$) of leaf occurred under hot air stress. Although no change was observed in the maximum quantum yield ($F_v/F_m$) of the hot air stressed maize leaves, the other photochemical parameters such as maximum fluorescence intensity ($F_m$) and Maximum fluorescence value ($F_p$) were relatively lowered after hot air stress. In hot air stressed maize leaves, an increase was observed in the nonphotoquenching (NPQ) and decrease in the effective quantum yield of photochemical energy conversion in photosystem II (${\Phi}PSII$). Thus, NPQ and ${\Phi}PSII$ were available to be determined non-destructively in maize leaves under hot air stress. Our results clearly indicated that the hot air could be a source of stress in maize leaves. Thus, the CFI analysis along with its related parameters can be used as a rapid indicating technique for the determining hot air stress in plants.

중성자방사화분석법을 이용한 대기분진중의 미량원소 비교분석 (Intercomparison and Determination of Trace Elements in Urban Dust by Neutron Activation Analysis)

  • 대기환경시료인 도시분진시료와 인공적으로 준비한 휠터상 도시분진시료중의 미량원소를 중성자방사화분석법을 사용하여 비파괴 분석하였다. 분석정도관리를 위하여 미국 표준기술원의 인증표준시료 (Urban Dust, NIST SRM 1648)를 이용하였다. 37종의 검출된 원소의 상대오차와 상대 표준편차를 계산하였으며 각각 10%와 15%이내이었다. 도시분진시료로부터 29종의 원소, 휠터상 도시분진시료로부터 21종의 원소를 정량하였다. 측정결과의 신뢰도 및 숙련도 평가를 위하여, 중성자방사화분석법, 하전입자유도 X-선방출분광법, X-선 형광분석법과 원자흡수분광법을 이용한 세계 39개 실험실이 참여한 실험실간 비교시험에 참여하였으며 수집된 결과를 통계처리하였다. 평균값과 표준편차로 계산한 z-score는 몇개의 원소를 제외하고 모두 -1

비교숙련도 시험을 통한 도시대기분진에 대한 중성자방사화분석법의 품질관리 (Quality Control on Neutron Activation Analysis for Urban Dust by the Proficiency Test)

  • 국제원자력기구로부터 제공받은 2종 (V-50, P-50)의 인공적으로 준비된 여과지상의 도시분진시료중의 미량원소를 중성자방사화분석법을 사용하여 비파괴 분석하였다. 중성자방사화분석의 품질관리를 위해 미국표준기술원의 인증표준물질 (Urban Particulate Matter, NIST SRM1648)이 사용되었으며 여과지상의 분진시료에서는 약 20종의 원소를 분석하였다. 측정결과는 실험실간 비교 및 숙련도 평가를 위하여 중성자방사화분석법, 하전입자유도 X-선 방출분광법, 유도결합플라즈마 질량분석법 등을 이용한 세계 40개국, 49개 실험실의 분석값들과 함께 통계처리 되었다. 통계 처리한 결과, 본 실험실의 분석값들의 Z-score가 ${\pm}2$ 이내에 들어오는 결과를 얻었으며, 숙련도 시험도 분석된 모든 원소의 정확도와 정밀도가 기준에 통과되는 신뢰성 있는 결과를 얻어 현재 수행하고 있는 대기분진시료들의 분석품질관리가 적합함을 입증하였다.

Evaluation of internal adaptation of dental adhesive restorations using micro-CT

  • Objectives: The internal adaptation of composite restorations with or without resin modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) was analyzed non-destructively using Microcomputed tomography (micro-CT). Materials and Methods: Thirty intact human teeth were used. The specimens were divided into 3 groups. In the control group, the cavities were etched with 10% phosphoric acid for 15 sec. Composite resin was filled into the cavity without adhesive. In group 1, light cured glass ionomer cement (GIC, Fuji II LC, GC) was applied as a base. The cavities were then etched, bonded, light cured and filled with composites. In group 2, the cavities were then etched, bonded, light cured and filled with composites without base application. They were immersed in a 25% silver nitrate solution. Micro-CT was performed before and after mechanical loading. One-way ANOVA with Duncan analysis was used to compare the internal adaptation between the groups before or after loading. A paired t-test was used to compare internal adaptation before and after mechanical loading. All statistical inferences were made within the 95% confidence interval. Results: The silver nitrate solution successfully penetrated into the dentinal tubules from the pulp spaces, and infiltrated into the gap between restoration and pulpal floor. Group 2 showed a lower adaptation than the control group and group 1 (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference between the control group and group 1. For all groups, there was a significant difference between before and after mechanical loading (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The internal adaptation before and after loading was better when composites were bonded to tooth using adhesive than composites based with RMGIC.

Synergic identification of prestress force and moving load on prestressed concrete beam based on virtual distortion method

  • In a prestressed concrete bridge, the magnitude of the prestress force (PF) decreases with time. This unexpected loss can cause failure of a bridge which makes prestress force identification (PFI) critical to evaluate bridge safety. However, it has been difficult to identify the PF non-destructively. Although some research has shown the feasibility of vibration based methods in PFI, the requirement of having a determinate exciting force in these methods hinders applications onto in-service bridges. Ideally, it will be efficient if the normal traffic could be treated as an excitation, but the load caused by vehicles is difficult to measure. Hence it prompts the need to investigate whether PF and moving load could be identified together. This paper presents a synergic identification method to determine PF and moving load applied on a simply supported prestressed concrete beam via the dynamic responses caused by this unknown moving load. This method consists of three parts: (i) the PF is transformed into an external pseudo-load localized in each beam element via virtual distortion method (VDM); (ii) then these pseudo-loads are identified simultaneously with the moving load via Duhamel Integral; (iii) the time consuming problem during the inversion of Duhamel Integral is overcome by the load-shape function (LSF). The method is examined against different cases of PFs, vehicle speeds and noise levels by means of simulations. Results show that this method attains a good degree of accuracy and efficiency, as well as robustness to noise.

광 및 CO2 변화 조건에서 브로콜리(Brassica oleracea var. italica)의 전기적 신호 모니터링 (Monitoring of plant induced electrical signal of broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica) under changing light and CO2 conditions)

  • 환경 조건의 변화는 식물의 물과 양분 흡수 및 광합성 정도를 변화시켜 결과적으로 식물 생육에 영향을 미친다. 변화하는 환경 조건에서 식물의 생리적 반응은 식물 줄기에 전극을 삽입해 식물유도 전기신호(PIES)로 비파괴적으로 모니터링할 수 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 CO2 증가와 광합성 광량자속밀도 PPFD 감소에 따른 식물의 반응으로 PIES를 모니터링하는 것이다. PIES는 증산과 광합성이 일어나는 낮에 증가하였고 식물 생육 기간 동안 모니터링한 CO2 농도는 PIES와 음의 상관관계를 보였다. CO2 농도 증가는 PIES를 약간 감소시켰으나 PIES에 큰 영향을 미치지 않았으며 이는 CO2 증가의 효과가 낮은 PPFD에 의해 제한되었기 때문으로 판단된다. PPFD 감소의 효과는 물과 양분 흡수가 광에 의해 즉각적으로 영향을 받지 않았기 때문에 즉시 나타나지는 않았다. 본 연구는 CO2 증가와 PPFD 감소에 의한 식물의 단기적 반응을 평가하고자 한 것이며 프롤린 함량 및 엽록소 형광은 환경 변화에 따라 유의하게 변화하지는 않았다.

Effects of Density, Temperature, Size, Grain Angle of Wood Materials on Nondestructive Moisture Meters

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of density, temperature, size, and grain direction on measurement of moisture contents (MC) of wood materials non-destructively. The MC of different sizes of solid wood, glulam, and CLT from larch (larix kaempferi, $560kg/m^3$) and pine (pinus koraiensis, $430kg/m^3$) were measured using the dielectric type and resistance type meters. The specimens were conditioned in the environmental chamber to be equilibrium moisture content (EMC) of 12 % and 19 %. When density setting in dielectric type meter was increased from $400kg/m^3$ to $600kg/m^3$, the MCs of specimen (S-L-100-E) were decreased from 13.4 % to 11.3 %. However, when wood group (WG) setting in resistance type meter was changed from WG1 to WG4, the measured MCs were increased from 9.2 % to 12.3 %. When temperature setting in resistance type meters was changed from 0 to $35^{\circ}C$, the MC was decreased from 17.0 % to 13.0 %. The MCs measured by dielectric type meter for larger specimens (S-L-100-E_11.3 %, G-L-240-E_11.7 % and C-L-120-E_12.8 %) were higher than those of small size specimens (S-L-30-E_8.7 %, G-L-150-E_10.3 %, and C-L-90-E_9.7 %). The MCs measured by resistance type meter for larger specimens (G-L-240-E_11.6 % and C-L-120-E_13.3 %) were also higher than those of small size specimens (G-L-150-E_10.4 %, and C-L-90-E_11.8 %). The resistance type meter was not affected by the grain direction but the dielectric type meter were affected by the grain direction. The MC measured by resistance type meter for G-L-120-E perpendicular to grain direction was 11.5 % and the measured MC parallel to grain direction was 11.3 %. The MC measured by dielectric type meter parallel to grain direction (12.1 %) was higher than that measured perpendicular to grain direction (10.7 %).
