  • Hyrdogenated amorphous silicon thin film transistors are used as a pixel switching device of TFT-LCDs and very active research works on a-Si:H TFTs are in progress. Further development of the technology based on a-Si:H TFTs depends on the increased understanding of the device physics and the ability to accurately simulate the characteristics of them. A two-dimensional device simulator based on the realistic and flexible physical models can guide the device designs and their optimizations. A non-uniform finite-difference TFT Simulation Program, TFT2DS has been developed to solve the electronic transport equations for a-Si:H TFTs. In TFT2DS, many of the simplifying assumptions are removed. The developed simulator was used to calculate the transfer and output characteristics of a-Si:H TFTs. The measured data were compared with the simulated ones for verifying the validity of TFT2DS. Also the transient behaviors of a-Si:H TFTs were calculated even if the values of the related parameters are not accurately specified.

  • Room acoustic properties of coupled rooms connected by an aperture has been analyzed using statistical acoustic model based on the diffused sound field assumption, which has limitation in dealing with the parameters such an room geometries and non uniform absorptivity of the boundary surfaces. In order to overcome these difficulties the acoustic diffusion model has been introduced, by which distribution of the acoustic energy density can be analyzed for various shapes and wall absorptivity. In this study acoustic properties of coupled rooms connected by an aperture(e.g. door) is analyzed using acoustic diffusion equation, which is solved numerically. The mean energy densities of two rooms obtained by the diffusion model are compared with those from the statistical model. The results show good agreement for various coupling aperture sizes and absorption coefficients. For a limiting case when the partition wall is substituted by an aperture and the two rooms eventually forms a single room, results of coupled room analysis using diffusion model show good agreement with those of a single room.

  • Nanofood can be simply defined as natural polymer particles containing functional food materials in nanoscale that are synthesized by polymerization or emulsification process. They have very uniform diameters in the range of 1 to 100nm and extensive surface areas due to the small particle size in spite of their non-porosity. Although the technique to produce nanofood has not long developing history, many works have been achieved in various fields. Nanofood has a lot of special advantages, such as functionality, diversity, applicability, etc. In case of the domestic food industries, however, the accumulation of related technique is insufficient against developed countries except used food materials. Also, it is difficult to acquire technical know-how from the developed countries that possess those technologies. We have been studied on preparing functional nanofood and developing new production processes since 1999. Last 5 years we have laid the foundation on the preparation of nanofood and now are focusing on developing new processes of nanofood and expending the field of its applications.

  • This paper describes a potential-based panel method for the prediction of unsteady performance of a marine propeller operating in a non-uniform flow field. Boundary-value problem, formulated by distributing the normal dipoles and sources on the blade, the hub and the shed wake, is descretized and numerically analyzed in a discretized time domain. Through an extensive test and comparison with the analytic solution, the convergence in time step is verified for a two-dimensional foil. Unsteaty analysis is then carried out for the DTRC 4118 propeller operating in a harmonic wake, and compared favorably with the experimental result. The present method is shown applicable to the analysis of unsteady performance of the propellers.

  • For the operation of high temperature superconducting (HTS) power equipments, it is necessary to develop insulating materials and high voltage (HV) insulation technology at cryogenic temperature of bushing. In this paper, the surface flashover characteristics of various insulating materials in $LN_2$ are studied. These results are studied at both AC and impulse voltage under a non-uniform field. The negative impulse breakdown voltage of GFRP is slightly higher than the positive impulse breakdown voltage. The use of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, Teflon) as insulation body for HTS bushing should be much desirable. Especially, GFRP is excellent material not only surface flashover characteristics but also mechanical characteristics at cryogenic temperature. The surface flashover is most serious problem for the shed design in $LN_2$ and operation of superconducting equipment.

  • A new higher shear deformation theory (HSDT) is presented for the thermal buckling behavior of functionally graded (FG) sandwich plates. It uses only four unknowns, which is even less than the first shear deformation theory (FSDT) and the conventional HSDTs. The theory considers a hyperbolic variation of transverse shear stress, respects the traction free boundary conditions and contrary to the conventional HSDTs, the present one presents a new displacement field which includes undetermined integral terms. Material characteristics and thermal expansion coefficient of the sandwich plate faces are considered to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The core layer is still homogeneous and made of an isotropic material. The thermal loads are supposed as uniform, linear and non-linear temperature rises within the thickness direction. An energy based variational principle is used to derive the governing equations as an eigenvalue problem. The validation of the present work is carried out with the available results in the literature. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the influences of variations of volume fraction index, length-thickness ratio, loading type and functionally graded layers thickness on nondimensional thermal buckling loads.

  • In this study, the etched trench properties including cross-sectional profile, surface roughness, and crystalline defects were investigated depending on the various silicon etching and additive gases, For the case of HBr$He-O_2SiF_4$ trench etching gas mixtures, the excellent trench profile and minimum defects in the silicon trench were achieved. Due to the residual oxide film grown by the additive oxygen gas, which acts as a protective layer during trench etching, the undercut and defects generation in the trench were suppressed. To improve the electrical characteristics of trench gate, the hydrogen annealing process after trench etching was also adopted. Through the hydrogen annealing, the trench corners might be rounded by the silicon atomic migration at the trench corners having high potential. The rounded trench corner can afford to reduce the gate electric field and grow a uniform gate oxide. As a result, dielectric strength and TDDB characteristics of the hydrogen annealed trench gate oxide were remarkably increased compared to the non-hydrogen annealed one.

  • This paper presents the characteristics of partial discharge and radiated electromagnetic waves in the existence of a poor contact for the insulation diagnosis of eco-friendly power equipment. AC surface discharge experiment was conducted to simulate the poor contact between a hive voltage electrode (anode) and a solid insulator in $N_2/O_2$ mixture gas under a non-uniform field. The partial discharge voltage to be measured at 0.3MPa increased with the increase of the poor contact gap and was saturated with the gap. In addition to the partial discharge characteristics, it was verified that the defect of the poor contact can be diagnosed using the radiated electromagnetic waves due to the partial discharge, which measured by a biconical EMC antenna and a spectrum analyzer.

  • SF6 gas used widely as insulating component is rising as the environment problem. Electrical breakdown characteristics of epoxy and dry-air composite insulation was investigated on thickness of epoxy and pressure of dry-air under non-uniform field. The gap of needle to plane was from 2mm to 5mm. The pressure of dry-air was varied within the range of $0.1{\sim}0.6$ MPa. The thickness of a needle was 1mm and the curvature radius of a needle end was 100um. The diameter of a plane made of the stainless steel was 50mm. As a result of the experiment, breakdown voltage was increased about 3 times when epoxy was used. The impact that the thickness of epoxy influences on breakdown voltage was poor. It needs suitable thickness computation because the insulating gap of the gas is short as epoxy thickness increases.

  • Vortex generation mechanism by inhibitor in a solid rocket motor have been investigated by 3D Large Eddy Simulation turbulent model. Most of the result of the present study are in good agreement with experimental data and previous numerical calculation. Vortex generation and breakdown behind inhibitor are periodically observed between inhibitor and nozzle head by flow-acoustic coupling mechanism. Vortex generation frequency is the same as the second-mode frequency in the motor. The roll shape vortex generation behind inhibitor induces non-uniform flow field at the nozzle entrance and its throat.
