In digital radiography, to improve the contrast of digital radiography image, the multi-scale nonlinear amplification algorithm based on unsharp masking is one of the major image enhancement algorithms. In this paper, we used the Laplacian pyramid to decompose a digital radiography(DR) image. In our simulation, the DR image was decomposed into seven layers and the coefficients of the each layer was amplified with nonlinear function. We also imported a noise containment algorithm to limit noise amplification. To enhance the contrast of image, we proposed a new adaptive non-linear gain amplification coefficients. As a result of having applied to some clinical data, a detail visibility was improved significantly without unacceptable noise boosting. Images that acquired with the proposed adaptive non-linear gain coefficients have shown superior quality to those that applied similar gain control method and expected to be accepted in the clinical applications.
The main purpose of this paper is the numerical analysis of the non-linear seismic response of a RC building mock-up. The mock-up is subjected to different synthetic horizontal seismic excitations. The numerical approach is based on a 3D-model involving multilayered shell elements. These elements are composed of several single-layer membranes with various eccentricities. Bending effects are included through these eccentricities. Basic equations are first written for a single membrane element with its own eccentricity and then generalised to the multilayered shell element by superposition. The multilayered shell is considered as a classical shell element : all information about non-linear constitutive relations are investigated at the local scale of each layer, whereas balance and kinematics are checked afterwards at global scale. The non-linear dynamic response of the building is computed with Newmark algorithm. The numerical dynamic results (blind simulations) are considered in the linear and non linear cases and compared with experimental results from shaking table tests. Multilayered shell elements are found to be a promising tool for predictive computations of RC structures behaviour under 3D seismic loadings. This study was part of the CAMUS International Benchmark.

In order to improve the measurement accuracy of the 6-dimensional accelerometer, the cross coupling compensation method of the accelerometer needs to be studied. In this paper, the non-linear error caused by cross coupling of piezoelectric six-dimensional accelerometer is compensated online. The cross coupling filter is obtained by analyzing the cross coupling principle of a piezoelectric six-dimensional accelerometer. Linear and non-linear fitting methods are designed. A two-level calibration hybrid compensation algorithm is proposed. An experimental prototype of a piezoelectric six-dimensional accelerometer is fabricated. Calibration and test experiments of accelerometer were carried out. The measured results show that the average non-linearity of the proposed algorithm is 2.2628% lower than that of the least square method, the solution time is 0.019382 seconds, and the proposed algorithm can realize the real-time measurement in six dimensions while improving the measurement accuracy. The proposed algorithm combines real-time and high precision. The research results provide theoretical and technical support for the calibration method and online compensation technology of the 6-dimensional accelerometer.
The WGR model was developed to represent meso-scale precipitation. As a conceptual model, this model shows a good link between atmospheric dynamics and statistical description of meso-scale precipitation(Waymire et al., 1984). However, as it has maximum 18 parameters along with its non-linear structure, its parameter estimation has been remained a difficult problem. There have been several cases of its parameter estimation for different fields using non-linear programming techniques(NLP), which were also difficult tasks to hamper its wide applications. In this study, we estimated the WGR model parameters of the Han river basin using the genetic algorithm(GA) and compared them to the NLP results(Yoo and Kwon, 2000). As a result of the study, we can find that the sum of square error from the GA provide more consistent parameters to the seasonal variation of rainfall. Also, we can find that the higher rainfall amount during summer season is closely related with the arrival rate of rain bands, not the rain cell intensity.
This paper presents an observer-based chattering free robust optimal control scheme to regulate the total power of a nuclear reactor. The non-linear model of nuclear reactor is linearized around a steady state operating point to obtain a linear model for which an optimal second order integral sliding mode controller is designed. A second order integral sliding mode observer is also designed to estimate the unmeasurable states. In order to avoid the chattering effect, the discontinuous input of both observer and controller are designed using the super-twisting algorithm. The proposed controller is realized by combining an optimal linear tracking controller with a second order integral sliding mode controller to ensure minimum control effort and robustness of the closed-loop system in the presence of uncertainties. The condition for the selection of gains of discontinuous control based on the super-twisting algorithm is derived using a strict Lyapunov function. Performance of the proposed observer based control scheme is demonstrated through non-linear simulation studies.

In this paper we present a Hangul Encryption Algorithm (HEA) which encrypts composition Hangul syllables into composition Hangul syllables using the non-linear structure of Hangul. Since ciphertexts generated by HEA are displayable characters HEA can be used in applications such as Privacy Enhanced mail (PEM) where ciphertexts should be displayable characters. HEA is based on DES and it can be shown that HEA is as safe as DES against the exhaustive key search differential cryptanalysis and linear cryptanalysis. HEA also has randomness of phonemes of ciphertexts and satisfies plaintext-ciphetext avalanche effect and key-ciphertext avalanche effect.

This paper presents an adaptive retinex algorithm using skewness for contrast enhancement of color images. In order to estimate the degree of low contrast of an image, skewness of luminance of an observed image is used to define a parameter, and a non-linear function is proposed to compensate the reflectance using the parameter and estimated reflectance. In addition, determination of gain and offset of the non-linear function is addressed using statistics of the estimated reflectance. The relation between an observed luminance and the compensated luminance is used to compensate color components with the reduction of computational cost. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has the capability to effectively improve the contrast without color distortion.

This paper proposes the algorithm for discriminating faults from the variation due to the operation of non-linear components to prevent the mal-operation of protection relay in the distribution system. An IEEE 13 node test feeder is modeled to analyze the characteristics of the fault and each variation using EMTP-RV. Simulations with various operating conditions of transformers, non-linear loads, and unbalanced loads are performed using the test feeder model. Based on simulation results, the wavelet transform is adopted to analyze the current waveforms from the faults and variations to find out the differences between them and the algorithm for discriminating faults from the variation is proposed. The proposed algorithm is verified by using the current waveforms simulated in the KEPCO's distiribution system and IEEE 13 node test feeder.
This paper proposes an image processing algorithm to stabilize shaken scenes of UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) caused by vehicle self-vibration and aerodynamic disturbance. The proposed method stabilizes images by compensating estimated shake motion which is evaluated from global motion. The global motion between two continuous images modeled by 6 parameter warping model is estimated by non-linear square method based on Gauss-Newton algorithm with excluding outlier region. The shake motion is evaluated by subtracting the global motion from aerial vehicle motion obtained by averaging global motion. Experimental results show that the proposed method stabilize shaken scenes effectively.

The objective of this study is to develop an integrated process planning system which can flexibly cope with the status changes in a shop floor by utilizing the concept of Non-Linear and Closed-Loop Process Planning(NCPP). In this paper, Genetic Algorithm(GA) is employed in order to quickly generate feasible setup sequences for minimizing the makespan and tardiness under an NCPP. The genetic algorithm developed in this study for getting the machine load utilizes differentiated mutation rate and method in order to increase the chance to avoid a local optimum and to reach a global optimum. Also, it adopts a double gene structure for the sake of convenient modeling of the shop floor. The last step in this system is a simulation process which selects a proper process plan among alternative process plans.
