  • An attemption of synthesizing and forecasting of monthly river flow has been made by employing a linear stochastic difference equation model. As one of the linear stochestic difference equation model, an ARIMA Type is tested to find the suitability of the model to the monthly river flows. On the assumption of the stationary covariacne of differenced monthly river flows the model is identrfield and is evaluated so that the residuale have the minimum variance. Finally a test is performed to finld the residerals beings White noise. Monthly river flows at six stations in Han River Basin are applied for case studies. It was found that the difference operator is a good measure of forecasting the monthly river flow.

  • Structural health monitoring (SHM) has been related to damage identification with either operational loads or other environmental loading playing a significant complimentary role in terms of structural safety. In this study, a non-parametric method of time frequency analysis on the measurement is used to address the time-frequency representation for modal parameter estimation and system damage identification of structure. The method employs the wavelet decomposition of dynamic data by using the modified complex Morlet wavelet with variable central frequency (MCMW+VCF). Through detail discussion on the selection of model parameter in wavelet analysis, the method is applied to study the dynamic response of both steel structure and reinforced concrete frame under white noise excitation as well as earthquake excitation from shaking table test. Application of the method to building earthquake response measurement is also examined. It is shown that by using the spectrogram generated from MCMW+VCF method, with suitable selected model parameter, one can clearly identify the time-varying modal frequency of the reinforced concrete structure under earthquake excitation. Discussions on the advantages and disadvantages of the method through field experiments are also presented.

  • A new modulation technique - correlative encoded FSK (CEFSK) - for use in power and bandwidth limited digital communication system is proposed. CEFSK is free of ISI and generates output signals which have a smooth and continuous phase transition and a reduced envelope fluctuation by keeping correlation between amplitude and phases of two subsequent symbols. In comparison to conventional one-bit differential detected (1DD) GFSK, the performance of the 1DD-CEFSK in a non-linearly amplified (NLA) channel impaired by additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), ISI and IM, is analyzed via computer simulation. The simulation result shows that, in an NLA single-channel, 1DD-CEFSK provides a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) advantage of up to 1.2dB and 0.8dB at BER of $1{\times}10^{-4}$ when input back-off (IBO) of HPA is -1.0dB and -3.0dB, respectively. For the same channel environment with multi-channel, 1DD-CEFSK outperforms 1DD-GFSK by 1.1dB in SNR, regardless of the value of IBO.

  • This paper presents a novel signal tracking algorithm for GNSS receivers using a MLE technique. In order to perform a robust signal tracking in severe signal environments, e.g., high dynamics for navigation vehicles or weak signals for indoor positioning, the MLE based signal tracking approach is adopted in the paper. With assuming white Gaussian additive noise, the cost function of MLE is expanded to the cost function of NLSE. Efficient and practical approach for Doppler frequency tracking by the MLE is derived based on the assumption of code-free signals, i.e., the cost function of the MLE for carrier Doppler tracking is used to derive a discriminator function to create error signals from incoming and reference signals. The use of the MLE method for carrier tracking makes it possible to generalize the MLE equation for arbitrary codes and modulation schemes. This is ideally suited for various GNSS signals with same structure of tracking module. This paper proposes two different types of MLE based tracking method, i.e., an iterative batch processing method and a non-iterative feed-forward processing method. The first method is derived without any limitation on time consumption, while the second method is proposed for a time limited case by using a 1st derivative of cost function, which is proportional to error signal from discriminators of conventional tracking methods. The second method can be implemented by a block diagram approach for tracking carrier phase, Doppler frequency and code phase with assuming no correlation of signal parameters. Finally, a state space form of FLL/PLL/DLL is adopted to the designed MLE based tracking algorithm for reducing noise on the estimated signal parameters.

  • This paper presents cell ID (cell identity) detection schemes using PSS/SSS (primary synchronization signal/secondary synchronization signal) for 5G NR (new radio) system and evaluates the detection performance. In this paper, we consider two cell ID detection schemes, i.e. two-stage detection and joint detection schemes. The two-stage detection scheme consists of two stages which estimate a channel gain between a transmitter and receiver and detect the PSS and SSS sequences. The joint detection scheme jointly detects the PSS and SSS sequences. In addition, this paper presents coherent and non-coherent combining schemes. The coherent scheme calculates the correlation value for the total length of the given PSS and SSS sequences, and the non-coherent combining scheme calculates the correlation within each group by dividing the total length of the sequence into several groups and then combines them non-coherently. For the detection schemes considered in this paper, the detection error rates of PSS, SSS and overall cell ID are evaluated and compared through computer simulations. The simulation results show that the joint detection scheme outperforms the two-stage detection scheme for both coherent and non-coherent combining schemes, but the two-stage detection scheme can greatly reduce the computational complexity compared to the joint detection scheme. In addition, the non-coherent combining detection scheme shows better performance under the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), fixed, and mobile environments.

  • Recently, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) have been received considerable attention to be involved in the next generation mobile system. However, there are inherent inter-user interferences caused by the multiplexing multiple users in the same communication resource in NOMA systems. Two representative methods, the approximate white noise and random variable methods, have been adapted for the analysis of interferences in NOMA systems. In this paper, we derive the outage probabilities of an uplink NOMA system with the two analysis methods and compare the results. The numerical results of the outage probabilities versus transmitted power, distances, and power allocation are compared. We noticed that the derived functions are different each other, but the numerical results are coincident. It is shown that the two interference analysis methods can be applied to the analysis of NOMA systems.

  • In this paper, we propose a Reverse Differential Chaos Shift Keying (RE-DCSK) system for low cost, high reliability and high data rate non-coherent chaos communication .In RE-DCSK, reference signals are transmitted in the first slot as in the conventional differential chaos shift modulation scheme (DCSK) and in the second slot a time inversion block strengthens the autocorrelation of the chaos signal and uses the orthogonality of the two signals to obtain the information signal. RE-DCSK enables relatively double the data rate compared to DCSK and also improves the security of communications without any additional cost of system complexity. To prove its effectiveness, we analyze it through Rayleigh fading channel and additional white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel based on the derived BER expression. The BER performance of the proposed system is improved when compared with the CDSK and DCSK system using AWGN channel.

  • In this paper, we propose a new cooperative signaling structure based on CDMA to overcome both 2/3 spectrum efficiency and low diversity gain of conventional cooperative signaling through continuous overlapping of signal that each user wants to transmit. Proposed signal structure can achieve the spectrum efficiency nearly "1" by receiving additional data for next time as well as maximum diversity gain to detect data continuously at both base station and each user. The orthogonality of CDMA's spreading codes can improve performance of optimal detector by reducing inter-user channel environment and distinguishing each user. We perform the computer simulation to verify the proposed system through comparing cooperative mode and non-cooperative mode under Rayleigh fading channel plus AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise).

  • The typical ARIMA model which was developed by Box and Jenkins, was applied to the monthly $SO_2$ data collected at Seoungsoo and Oryudong in metropolitan area over five years, 1982 to 1986. To find out the changing pattern of $SO_2$ concentration, autocorrelation and partial autocorrelation analysis were undertaken. The three steps of time series model building were followed and the residual series was found to be a random white noise. The results of this study is summarized as follows. 1) The monthly $SO_2$ series was found to be a non-stationary series which which has a periodicity of 12 months. After eliminating the periodicity by differencing, the monthly $SO_2$ series became a stationary series. 2) The ARIMA seasonal model of the $SO_2$ was determined to be ARIMA $(1, 0, 0)(0, 1, 0,)_{12}$ model. 3) The model equations based on the prediction were: for Seoungsoodong: $Y_t = 0.5214Y_{t-1} + Y_{t-12} - 0.5214Y_{t-13} + a_t$ for Oryudong: $Y_t = 0.8549Y_{t-1} + Y_{t-12} - 0.8549Y_{t-13} + a_t$ 4) The validity of the model identified was checked by compairing the measured $SO_2$ values and one-month-ahead predicted values. The result of correlation and regression analysis is as follows. Seoungsoodong: $Y = 0.8710X + 0.0062 r = 0.8768$ Oryudong : $Y = 0.8758X + 0.0073 r = 0.9512$

  • Acoustic feedback is perceived as whistling or howling, which is a major complaint of hearing-aids users. Acoustic feedback cancellation is important in hearing-aids because acoustic feedback degrades performance of the hearing aid device by reducing maximum insertion gain. Adaptive systems for estimate acoustic feedback path and feedback suppression algorithms have been proposed in order to solve this problem. A typical feedback cancellation algorithm is LMS(least mean squares) because of its computational efficiency. However it has problem of convergence performance in high correlated input signal. In this paper, we propose a new variable step-size normalized LMS(least mean squares) algorithm using VAD(voice activity detection) to overcome the limitation of the LMS algorithm. The VAD algorithm is GSAP(global speech absence probability) and the feedback cancellation algorithm is normalized LMS. The proposed algorithm applies different step-size between voice and non-voice using VAD, for high stability, fast convergence speed and low misalignment when correlated inputs, such as speech. The result of simulation with white noise mixed speech signal, the proposed algorithm shows high performance then traditional algorithm in terms of stability, convergence speed and misalignment.
