  • This paper focuses on estimation of an non-integral quadratic function (NIQF) and integral quadratic function (IQF) of a random signal in dynamic system described by a linear stochastic differential equation. The quadratic form of an unobservable signal indicates useful information of a signal for control. The optimal (in mean square sense) and suboptimal estimates of NIQF and IQF represent a function of the Kalman estimate and its error covariance. The proposed estimation algorithms have a closed-form estimation procedure. The obtained estimates are studied in detail, including derivation of the exact formulas and differential equations for mean square errors. The results we demonstrate on practical example of a power of signal, and comparison analysis between optimal and suboptimal estimators is presented.

  • Neural Networks have shown potential to become an attractive alternative to classic methods for identification and control of non-linear dynamic systems. The purpose of this paper is to present an application of neural networks, that is a neural reconstruction of the input signal of a non-linear unknown system. This basic methodology could be used for practical purpose in several engineering fields. Clearly applications of the proposed scheme can be of interest for physical systems where a complete network of sensors measuring system inputs is not available. It should also be emphasized that the application of the reconstruction scheme is of little or no interest when the analyzed system works and operates at nominal conditions. In fact, only when failures and/or system anomailes occur, leasing to performance degradation and/or shutdown, the application of this scheme is of interest. The paper presents the results of the methodology applied to unknown non-linear dynamic systems and the robustness of the scheme to white and colored system noise was evaluated.

  • We present a non-photo realistic pen-ink drawing method for outlining and shading of the input image. Especially, we focus on the detailed illustration of the image of which stroke's direction is important. The pen-ink renderer is an alternative display models user can generate traditional illustration renderings of their photo realistic image. The previously proposed pen drawing methods produce feasible description in general image but it is difficult to express in detail for the sophisticated images that need to consider the direction of stroke for each image region. In order to overcome the disadvantages of the conventional method, a direction vector is extracted from a tensor field and we determine a stroke's direction in consideration of not only an edge area but also a gradient of a surrounding area in the image. For more detailed description for the sophisticated image, we generate white noises based on the light and shade of the input image and determine the direction and length of the stroke by using the tensor field for each generated white noise. The proposed method works particularly well for traditional architectural images where the direction and detailed description of the pen is important.

  • A novel method to reduce additive non-stationary noise is proposed. The method requires neither the information about noise nor the estimate of the noise statistics from any pause regions. The enhancement is performed on a band-by-band basis for each time frame. Based on both the decision on whether a particular band in a frame is speech or noise dominant and the masking property of the human auditory system, an appropriate amount of noise is reduced using spectral subtraction. The proposed method was tested on various noisy conditions (car noise, Fl6 noise, white Gaussian noise, pink noise, tank noise and babble noise) and on the basis of comparing segmental SNR with spectral subtraction method and visually inspecting the enhanced spectrograms and listening to the enhanced speech, the method was able to effectively reduce various noise while minimizing distortion to speech.

  • Many researches have been processed to reconstruct corrupted an image by noise in fields of signal processing such as image recognition and compute. vision, and AWGN(additive white gaussian noise) and impulse noise are representative. Impulse noise consists of fired-valued(salt & pepper) impulse noise and random-valued impulse noise, and non-linear filters such as SM(standard median) filters are used to remove this noise. But basic SM filters still generate many errors in edge regions of an image, and in order to overcome this problem a variety of methods have been researched. In this paper, we proposed an impulse noise removal algorithm which is superior to the edge preserving capacity. At this tine, after detecting a noise by using the noise detector, we applied a noise removal algorithm based on the min-max operation and compared the capacity with existing methods through simulation.

  • Recently, based on the human speech recognition (HSR) model of Fletcher, the multi-band speech recognition has been intensively studied by many researchers. As a new automatic speech recognition (ASR) technique, the multi-band speech recognition splits the frequency domain into several sub-bands and recognizes each sub-band independently. The likelihood scores of sub-bands are weighted according to reliabilities of sub-bands and re-combined to make a final decision. This approach is known to be robust under noisy environments. When the noise is stationary a sub-band SNR can be estimated using the noise information in non-speech interval. However, if the noise is non-stationary it is not feasible to obtain the sub-band SNR. This paper proposes the inverse sub-band distance (ISD) weighting, where a distance of each sub-band is calculated by a stochastic matching of input feature vectors and hidden Markov models. The inverse distance is used as a sub-band weight. Experiments on 1500∼1800㎐ band-limited white noise and classical guitar sound revealed that the proposed method could represent the sub-band reliability effectively and improve the performance under both stationary and non-stationary band-limited noise environments.

  • The wavelet transform is widely used in signal processing application. In this paper, a wavelet domain adaptive algorithm(WPTNLMS) is derived and its performances are evaluated in non-stationary environment. Where the input signals are decomposed by the wavelet packet transform for the multi-resolution adaptive processing. And the NLMS is used as an adaptive algorithm in wavelet domain. The proposed technique is applied to noise cancellation of the Doppler signal which is added with white Gaussian noise.

  • In this paper, a non-classical autocorrelation detector adopting a newly defined test statistic is introduced to solve the typical problem of detecting a narrowband signal transmitted over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. Error probability analyses are performed for a noncoherent frequency-shift-keying (FSK) system employing the proposed test-statistic. Through the histogram approach, the probability density functions of the test-statistics are plotted to explain the analysis model. All numerical results obtained indicate the limited improvement in error performance under the lower signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the use of higher number of samples per bit will finally provide the almost same confident potential of improvement in error rate as the system using matched filters (MFs) gives.

  • The first and second moments of response variables for SDOF systems with hysteretic nonlinearity are obtained by a direct linearization procedure. This adaptation in the implementation of well-known statistical linearization methods, provides concise, model-independent linearization coefficients that are well-suited for numerical solution. The method may be applied to systems which incorporate any hysteresis model governed by a differential constitutive equation, and may be used for zero or non-zero mean random vibration. The implementation eliminates the effort of analytically deriving specific linearization coefficients for new hysteresis models. In doing so, the procedure of stochastic analysis is made independent from the task of physical modeling of hysteretic systems. In this study, systems with three different hysteresis models are analyzed under various zero and non-zero mean Gaussian White noise inputs. Results are shown to be in agreement with previous linearization studies and Monte Carlo Simulation.

  • Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has been considered for the fifth generation (5G) mobile networks to provide high system capacity and low latency. We calculate the channel capacity for the weak channel user in NOMA and the channel capacity region for NOMA. In this paper, Gaussian mixture channel is compared to the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. Gaussian mixture channel is modeled when we assume the practical signal modulation for the inter user interference, such as the binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation. It is shown that the channel capacity with BPSK inter user interference is better than that with Gaussian inter user interference. We also show that the channel capacity region with BPSK inter user interference is larger than that with Gaussian inter user interference. As a result, NOMA could perform better in the practical environments.
