Inward Technology Licensing, Financial Slack, and Internal Innovation in New Technology-Based Firms Located in Isolated Areas

  • The paper aims to evaluate the combination of strategies that influence the success of New Technology Based Firms (NTBFs) located in isolated areas with resource constraints. We utilize the Kauffman Firm Survey to construct a subset of 224 firms operating in primary metal manufacturing industries and who are located in non-thriving areas. We focus on the impact of technological strategy, in the form of Inward Technology Licensing (ITL), combined with financial strategy, in the form of increased financial slack. Using a negative binomial-specification technique to model these relations, we find that ITL positively impacts internal innovation in the firm and this relation is strengthened by the presence of greater financial slack. This positive impact of financial slack supports the behavioral theory of the firm rather than agency theory in that financial slack enables further innovation rather than stifling it. This research confirms the importance of resource acquisition, suggesting that entrepreneurs may utilize external sources of knowledge in an effort to build a favorable situation when facing the challenges of location. Finally, by presenting evidence showing the compatibility of a financial strategy with a knowledge strategy (ITL), this study emphasizes the importance to entrepreneurs of choosing the proper combination of varying strategies.

ISDS 포럼쇼핑 방지를 위한 투자협정상 MFN 배제조항 (MFN Restrictions in Investment Agreements for the Prevention of ISDS Forum Shopping)

  • MFN provisions in investment agreements have been a tool for equitable treatment between foreign investors with different nationalities. This non discriminatory principle has been pursued by the host states for further investment promotion. However, it may be abused to bring the situation of so called "ISDS forum shopping" which might harm the stability and predictability of investment agreements by unexpectedly extending the scope of obligations. While some investment arbitral tribunals have interpreted the scope of MFN provision very broadly to allow the ISDS forum shopping, both procedural and substantive provisions have been invoked. To prevent any chaos of unclear boundary of MFN provision, some explicit MFN restrictions which would limit the scope of MFN provision are needed. Indeed, some investment agreements have included these MFN restrictions. Specifically, MFN restrictions deal with both procedural or substantive provisions to prevent ISDS forum shopping. According to the lessons from the recent examples of MFN restrictions, there must be a careful consideration on the benefits and costs of having a certain type of MFN restriction as the parties can be the host state and the home state of their investors at the same time.

Morphological study of synthesized PVDF membrane using different non-solvents for coagulation

  • Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) flat sheet hydrophobic membranes were prepared using 16 wt% PVDF in Dimethyl acetamide (DMAc) by phase inversion technique for desalination application using Membrane Distillation (MD). In this work, the effect of coagulation mediums such as ethanol and water as well their synergistic behavior on the fabricated PVDF membrane morphology was studied using SEM. Moreover, other characteristics required for the membrane distillation applications namely porosity, hydrophobicity and tensile strength were measured using the gravimetric method, sessile drop method and universal testing machine respectively. It was observed that the membrane morphology paradigm shifted from the finger-like structure to the sponge-like structure on increasing the ethanol concentration in coagulant. The porosity of the fabricated membrane was under the required MD range and found to be 57.3% at 16 weight % of PVDF in DMAc solvent under a pure ethanol coagulant bath. Moreover, the top surface contact angle ranges from 85° to 115° on increasing the bath concentration from CBC 0 to CBC 100 at 16 weight % of PVDF in DMAc solvent.

Behavior of recycled steel fiber-reinforced concrete beams in torsion- experimental and numerical approaches

  • In this study, mechanical, flexural post-cracking, and torsional behaviors of recycled steel fiber-reinforced concrete (RSFRC) incorporating steel fibers obtained from recycling of waste tires were investigated. Initially, three concrete mixes with different fiber contents (0, 40, and 80 kg/m3) were designed and tested in fresh and hardened states. Subsequently, the flexural post-cracking behaviors of RSFRCs were assessed by conducting three-point bending tests on notched beams. It was observed that recycled steel fibers improve the post-cracking flexural behavior in terms of energy absorption, ductility, and residual flexural strength. What's more, torsional behaviors of four RSFRC concrete beams with varying reinforcement configurations were investigated. The results indicated that RSFRCs exhibited an improved post-elastic torsional behaviors, both in terms of the torsional capacity and ductility of the beams. Additionally, numerical analyses were performed to capture the behaviors of RSFRCs in flexure and torsion. At first, inverse analyses were carried out on the results of the three-point bending tests to determine the tensile functions of RSFRC specimens. Additionally, the applicability of the obtained RSFRC tensile functions was verified by comparing the results of the conducted experiments to their numerical counterparts. Finally, it is noteworthy that, despite the scatter (i.e., non-uniqueness) in the aspect ratio of recycled steel fiber (as opposed to industrial steel fiber), their inclusion contributed to the improvement of post-cracking flexural and torsional capacities.

경안천 유역 농촌지역의 비점오염원 배출 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Discharge Characteristics of Non-point Pollutant Source in the Agricultural Area of the Kyongan Watershed)

  • A field monitoring was conducted in order to find out the discharge characteristics of non-point source pollutants in the agricultural area. Event Mean Concentration (EMC) of TSS, $BOD_5$, $COD_{Mn}$, TP, TN was calculated based on the monitoring data of 10 rainfall events at agricultural watersheds. A significant relationship was observed from the correlation between EMCs and rainfall characteristics. The result shows that EMC ranges of 95% confidence intervals were 50.5~203 mg/L for TSS, 0.8~14.2 mg/L for $BOD_5$, 4.2~20.7 mg/L for $COD_{Mn}$, 2.4~4.5 mg/L for TN and 0.2~0.5 mg/L for TP, respectively. The correlation coefficients between TSS and TP and between $BOD_5$ and $COD_{Mn}$ were found to be 0.912 and 0.961. But TN was lower correlated with other EMC factors. It was also found that rainfall characteristics was not correlated with EMCs.

데이터 전처리를 이용한 다중 모델 퍼지 예측기의 설계 및 응용 (Design of Multiple Model Fuzzy Predictors using Data Preprocessing and its Application)

  • It is difficult to predict non-stationary or chaotic time series which includes the drift and/or the non-linearity as well as uncertainty. To solve it, we propose an effective prediction method which adopts data preprocessing and multiple model TS fuzzy predictors combined with model selection mechanism. In data preprocessing procedure, the candidates of the optimal difference interval are determined based on the correlation analysis, and corresponding difference data sets are generated in order to use them as predictor input instead of the original ones because the difference data can stabilize the statistical characteristics of those time series and better reveals their implicit properties. Then, TS fuzzy predictors are constructed for multiple model bank, where k-means clustering algorithm is used for fuzzy partition of input space, and the least squares method is applied to parameter identification of fuzzy rules. Among the predictors in the model bank, the one which best minimizes the performance index is selected, and it is used for prediction thereafter. Finally, the error compensation procedure based on correlation analysis is added to improve the prediction accuracy. Some computer simulations are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Software education is inevitable for the success of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and university education also requires innovation to cope with revolutionary change of the society. The number of students seeking employment in the IT field is steadily increasing regardless of the major of the student. However, the existing software-related courses offered by universities or private educational institutions are limited. This paper analyzes the existing software curriculum of several major universities for non-IT major students. In addition, in-depth surveys by students at Seoul Theological University is conducted to figure out the demand for the advanced level computer science subjects. Finally, new software education curriculum is proposed to fulfill the needs of non-IT major students and to improve the employment rate of non-IT major students seeking tech companies. The new curriculum will help to cultivate intermediate level IT experts that bridge the gap between advanced level IT experts and primitive level computer technicians.

  • 비 직교 다중 접속(NOMA : Non Orthogonal Multiple Access) 기술은 5G 네트워크의 등장으로 폭발적으로 증가한 사용자의 QoS(Quality of Service)를 보장하기 위한 기술이다. 비 직교 다중 접속 기술은 기존의 직교 다중 접속(OMA : Orthogonal Multiple Access) 기술에서 주파수의 직교성을 없애고 다른 신호를 구분하기 위해 전력을 차등적으로 할당하는 기술이다. NOMA 기술 중 협력 NOMA 기술은 거리가 먼 사용자들에게 보내기 위해 많은 전력을 소모하는 것이 아닌 중계 노드에게 신호를 보내어서 중계 노드가 대신 NOMA를 수행하는 방법이다. 하지만, 협력 NOMA에서는 중계 노드가 협력 NOMA에 참여하는 동기가 반드시 필요하다. 이를 위해 기지국은 중계 노드에게 인센티브를 지급할 수 있지만 중계 노드가 기여한 만큼 공정하게 지급해야 한다. 이러한 인센티브 체계를 수립할 때 발생하는 문제점이 있는데 그것은 중계 노드가 자신의 기여를 속인다면 기지국 입장에서는 전체 시스템 성능도 하락할 뿐 아니라 높은 인센티브를 지급해야 한다는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 협력 NOMA 네트워크에 참여하는 중계 노드들이 이기적으로 행동하여 거짓된 정보를 보고하는 것을 방지하기 위해 메커니즘 디자인을 사용한 기법을 제안한다. 메커니즘 디자인 중 VCG메커니즘을 사용하여 중계 노드들의 이기적인 행동을 제어하고 전체 시스템 성능을 높일 수 있도록 하였다. 실험 결과로 중계 노드들이 이기적으로 행동했을 때의 전체 시스템 성능보다 VCG 메커니즘을 사용하여 모두가 진실하게 행동했을 때의 전체 시스템 성능이 증가함을 보였다.

인천지역 식품영양전공과 비전공 대학생의 식습관 및 건강관련 생활습관 비교 (A Comparison of Dietary Behavior and Health-Related Lifestyles of Food and Nutrition Major and Non-Major University Students in Incheon Area)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the dietary behavior and health-related lifestyles of university students in Incheon arear Self administered questionnaires were collected ken 179 food and nutrition major and non-major students. Statistical data analysis was completed using a SPSS v.10.0 program. The results are summarized as follows: The average weight, height, BMI and PIBW of the major and non-major male and female students were 69.89kg, 172.89cm, 23.4 and 106.49 ; 67.27kg, 173.98cm, 22.2 and 101.35 ; 50.61kg, 161.20cm, 19.53 and 92.25 ; 53.77kg, 161.53cm, 20.56 and 97.18, respectively. The breakfast skipping ratio of the subjects were very high, which was mainly due to the reason“lack of time”More than 75% of male students and 61% of female students responded to have lunch at university canteens or restaurants around campus regularly. About 56% of male students and 68% of female students responded to have dinner irregularly, which mainly caused by the reasons“irregularity of lecture”and “appointment with friends”. The ratio of snacks intake of the subjects were high; Ramyun was the snack item taken the most by the male students and fruits and cookies by the female ones. More than 50% male students and 2% of female students were smokers. A half of students dunk alcohol once or twice a week. The dietary behaviors and health-related lifestyles between major and non-major male students tended to be very similar. The major female students showed more health-oriented dietary behaviors in comparison with the non-major ones. Therefore, they should have a major-oriented and practically organized nutritional education program to correct their dietary behaviors and health-related lifestyles fur health.

절리거동의 탄소성해석에서 소성유동법칙의 역할 (The Role of the Plastic Flow Rules in the Elasto-Plastic Formulation of Joint behaviour)

  • 절리면의 전단거동에서 나타나는 응력 및 변위의 비선형 특성을 탄소성해석에 의해 모사하는 경우 소성유동법칙이 해석결과에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. Plesha의 절리구성모델을 적용하여 일정수직응력조건과 일정수직변위조건에서 수치직접전단시험을 실시하였다. 연상유동법칙을 적용하면 과도한 수직팽창이 예측되는 반면에 비연상유동법칙을 적용한 해석은 실제 절리거동을 잘 모사하고 있음을 보였다. 비연상유동법칙의 적용으로 강성행렬이 비대칭이 피는 단점을 보완하기 위해 비연상유동법칙을 적용하는 경우라도 요소의 접선강성행렬을 대칭화시키는 수치해석 기법이 제안되었다. 본래의 절리면과 동일한 소성변형을 일으키지만 연상유동법칙을 따르는 등가의 절리면을 가정함으로써 대칭인 탄소성행렬을 유도하였다. 일정수직음력조건에서 수티 직접전단시험을 실시하여 제안된 강성행렬 대칭화 기법의 유효성을 검증하였다.
