  • A survey and auditory experiment on multiple residential noises such as floor impact, airborne, bathroom, drainage and traffic noises were conducted to develop a combined rating system and to establish criteria for multiple residential noises. Subjective reactions such as annoyance, activity disturbance, sleep disturbance, and satisfaction to overall noise environment and each residential noise were recorded. The effect of individual noise perception on the evaluation of the overall noise environment was also investigated. The survey results showed that satisfaction for floor impact noise most greatly affects the overall satisfaction for overall noise environment and annoyance most greatly affects the satisfaction for individual noise sources. Auditory experiments were undertaken to determine the percent satisfaction for individual noise levels. Result of auditory experiment showed that the noise level corresponding to 40 % satisfaction is 49 dB $(L_{i,Fmax,AW})$ for floor impact and is about 40 dB(A) for airborne, drainage and traffic noise. From the results of the survey and the auditory experiments, an equation for predicting the overall satisfaction for multiple noises was developed and a classification of multiple residential noises was proposed.

  • In this study, we investigated the relationship between noise reduction and the community structure of nine groups of typical plant communities as well as the reduction in noise at different frequencies. The semantic differential method was adopted to explore the perception of noise reduction. The results indicated that there was a significantly positive correlation between noise reduction and coverage, a significantly negative correlation between noise reduction and bifurcate height, and a negative correlation between noise reduction and bare rate. However, there was no significant correlation between noise reduction and height, diameter at breast height, or crown width. The reduction of middle-frequency noise was better than that of low- and high-frequency noise. The indicators "quiet" and "calm" showed that plant communities could reduce the noise perceived by humans. However, overly dense woodland caused nervousness, fear, depression, and other negative effects. Relatively open environments and those with large forest gaps obtained the highest evaluation.

The sample in this study consisted of 556 elderly husband and wives over 55 years old living in Seoul Daejeon Jeonju and Daegu. Statistics employed for the analysis were frequencies means one-way anova and umltiple regression analysis. The results could be summarized as follows. Deficiency of privacy was the worst status and then noise and air-pollution and the level of facilties in residential space. And the perception of residential problems could be affected by age health the type of family the number of family the ownership of house the type of house location and the economic status The significant variable positively related to the residential satisfaction were the healthy conditon of eldely ownership of house living in multihousing the perception of privacy and high level of facilities in the house.

  • This paper criticizes S. Kim (1992), claiming that the perception of place cues in the reduced stop consonant clusters ('reducing' means 'cutting off' the acoustic silence in stop clusters) largely depends on the acoustic characteristics such as formant transition and noise frequency distribution of stop burst, rather than the closure duration time as advocated by S. Kim (1992). The claim is based on the perception test conducted upon 111 stimuli over 10 subjects. The finding is that, when the closure duration is cut off up to the point where only one stop is perceived, place of the second stop, not the first one, in the cluster is in most cases perceived regardless of the places of the first and second stops. It is likely that the place cues of the stop in the prevocalic position mask those in the postvocalic position.

  • In this paper, we propose a new sound localization algorithm for an active perception system. In an active perception system, an acquired sound is mixed with the sound of motors. So a sound localization algorithm for an active perception system requires a robustness for the noise and a computational efficiency. The proposed localization algorithm can achieve robustness and efficiency to use only sub-band channels that are contained harmonic structure of the target speech.

  • The human subject perception response according to vertical vibration and pitching was analyzed with a five degree of freedom model. The vehicle dynamic system with the delayed colored noise excitation and the passenger perception response was arranged as an integrated viration system and could be analyzed simultaneously for seven different combination of vehicle suspension. ISO2631 and BS6841 was adapted for analyzing the passenger perception reponse. Simulation results shows that passenger feel relatively less discomfort due to pitching compared to vertical vibration and road type was not necessary to be considered as a design parameter in view of comfort analysis.

  • In this study, the effect of temporal variation of IACC on subjective response to heavy-weight floor impact noise generated by impact ball was investigated. Subjective evaluation was conducted to investigate the effect of temporal variation of IACC on perception of heavy-weight floor impact noise using paired comparison test. The results showed that the effects of SPL and temporal variation of IACC on the annoyance of heavy-weight impact noises were independent and the contribution of SPL was much larger than that of temporal variation of IACC. It was also found that the effect of IACC is larger than temporal variation of IACC comparing to previous study.

  • This study aims to derive the effect of road traffic noise perception by the visual and aural information through a laboratory experiment. To verify the result more precisely, ME(Magnitude Estimation) and SD(Semantic Differential Method) evaluation on the effect of visual and aural effect were carried out by 43 university students. As the result, up to 10% of psychological reduction effect was shown under the 65dB(A). As the noise level, it was analyzed that the vision affected about 7dB(A) and sound affected 5dB(A). However, if these two are given simultaneously, mainly sound affects to reduce the annoyance of noise and the vision next. Compared with the urban central circumstances, this effect(2dB(A) under 65dB(A) noise) was shown smaller than field test.

  • Floor impact noise has been evaluated by investigating the temporal and spectral characteristics of the noise. The noises generated by different impactors were analyzed to find out whether there is any correlation with the factors of ACF /IACF (Autocorrelation Function/Inter-aural Cross-correlation Function) [1] and Zwicker parameters [2]. Experiments were undertaken to compare the objective and subjective parameters of the floor impact noises generated by a bang/tapping machine, a rubber ball [3], and a walker. As a result, it was found that $\phi$ (0) and IACC extracted from ACF/IACF, and Loudness, Unbiased Annoyance from Zwicker parameters showed high correlation with subjective evaluations of loudness concerning floor impact noises. In addition, it was revealed that jumping is similar to the ball.
