  • This study introduces the basic concepts of the vibration reducing methods and presents a case study of 'A' apartment construction site which located nearby railroad. The site is only 60m away from the railroad. Therefor much noise and vibration damages could be expected during train or any other transportation's passing. Especially, the first and second floor may suffer much vibration with the low frequency radiation noise from the walls and floors. This study estimates the noise level of indoor area by measuring the vibration of indoor walls and floors. From this result, vibration barrier, as a method to reduce the noise level which exceeds proper standard value, was attempted to protect vibration transmit from the railroad.

  • The estimation of proper prediction method and the alteration of transformation method of environmental regulation standard were carried out by measuring blasting noise in construction field. The correlation of scaled distance with sound pressure level were better than with sound level, but it was proved to be difficult to control blasting noise because the correlation factor was too 1ow. three methods to transform sound pressure levee to sound level were examined. The method is the transformation by correlation equation of sound pressure level and sound level which are measured at the same time, and simplified transformation of A-weighting network corresponding to dominant frequency, and the transformation of sound pressure level by FFT. There were many errors to transform. The best effective method is the transformation using correlation equation of sound pressure level and sound level which are measured at the same time.

  • Blasting is a method that uses explosives to crush the ground. This method is a highly efficient ground cleaning method that can secure high efficiency in a short time. However, explosions can damage local properties and produce high noise and vibration. Therefore, it is important to be careful because there are disadvantages such as the occurrence of many complaints from the surrounding area. In this paper measured and analyzed the noise and vibration generated during blasting at the blasting site in Korea. The noise and vibration generated during blasting were measured by ES03303.2b and ES03402.2a at a distance of 6 m, 12 m from the blasting point. As a result of the measurement, there was little difference between small and medium scale except for precision vibration blasting at a distance of 6m, but noise difference according to blasting scale was evident at a distance of 12m. As a result of the measurement, the maximum noise level was reduced to 5.5 dB(A) and the vibration level was reduced to 7.7 dB(V). In the future, the reliability of the test results can be further improved through additional tests, and it is judged that noise and vibration prediction models based on blasting methods, amount of charge, measuring distance, etc. can be developed.

  • When the building becomes high, the number of households increases and they are adjacent to the elevator. So, frequency of use of elevators will increase. Elevator noise is bound to increase in the future. However, there are currently no legal standards for elevator noise or measurement and evaluation methods that can clearly measure elevator noise in Korea. Although some methods for measuring elevator noise are presented in KS F ISO 16032, this standard is not a standard established for elevator noise. It is a standard that integrates the overall measurement method of building equipment and equipment, and the position of the microphone is selected by the experimenter during measurement. Elevator noise is characterized by a low sound pressure level as the noise in the mid-low frequency band is important. However, even today, complaints from residents about elevator noise are increasing. In this study, the position of the microphone that can most sensitively pick up the elevator noise when measuring the elevator noise was studied. According to the distance from the wall and the height from the floor, a total of 9 microphone positions were measured and analyzed. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the elevator noise has a very high influence in the 63 Hz band. The measured value at the center point was identified as a factor that lowered the overall elevator noise level value.

  • PURPOSES : The objective of this study is to provide for the overall SPL (Sound Pressure Level) prediction model by using the NCPX (Noble Close Proximity) measurement method in terms of regression equations. METHODS: Many methods can be used to measure the traffic noise. However, NCPX measurement can powerfully measure the friction noise originated somewhere between tire and pavement by attaching the microphone at the proximity location of tire. The overall SPL(Sound Pressure Level) calculated by NCPX method depends on the vehicle speed, and the basic equation form of the prediction model for overall SPL was used, according to the previous studies (Bloemhof, 1986; Cho and Mun, 2008a; Cho and Mun, 2008b; Cho and Mun, 2008c). RESULTS : After developing the prediction model, the prediction model was verified by the correlation analysis and RMSE (Root Mean Squared Error). Furthermore, the correlation was resulted in good agreement. CONCLUSIONS: If the polynomial overall SPL prediction model can be used, the special cautions are required in terms of considering the interpolation points between vehicle speeds as well as overall SPLs.

  • The objective of this study is to propose the measurement system implementation method for the evaluation and measurement of the indoor-impulsive over 170 dB noise source. For the purpose of measuring impulse noise, design and implementation constructed followed subsystems of the testing center, microphone, ear simulator, head and torso simulator and so on. Measurement systems for the accuracy and reliability of impulse noise are implemented when measuring 3 ways of measurements method by the simultaneous measurement system design. For the accuracy and reliability of three mutually indoor-impulse noise measurements were compared, three kinds of measuring methods in accordance with the peak sound pressure level and octave band. Comparing the results of data, the indoor-impulse noise by analyzing a frequency characteristic was validated in difference for the statistical significance. Result are determined by the influence of the reflected wave. Therefore, the flexible size of the interior test site while interior impulse noise measurement system was constructed. Throughout this system can be affected by parameters that are the impulse noise source and the corresponding frequency-characteristic analysis to determine the spectrum of the reflected wave. And, in the near future, indoor impulse noise measurement systems for acquisition and analysis are utilized in useful data.

  • Recently technology resulted in highly efficient and multiple-functional electric appliances considering environmental problems. One of the environmental problems is noise of a product in respect to its function. A vacuum cleaner is an essential electric appliance in our daily lives. However, severe noise resulted from high motor speed for improving the function of the appliance is a nuisance for the user. This noise is caused by vibration from various parts of the appliance and fluid noise during a series of intake and exhaust processes while rotating the impeller connected to the axle at a high speed of the fan motor inside the vacuum cleaner rotating around 30,000-35,000rpm. Despite the fact that many researchers conducted studies on reducing the noise level of the fan motor in a vacuum cleaner, only few studies have been conducted considering both the theoretical and experimental aspects using fluid analysis by measuring vibration and noise. Moreover, there has not been a study that accurately compared major noise data obtained considering both of the aspects. In this study, both aspects were considered by considering the following experimental and theoretical methods to verify the major causes of noise from the fan motor in a vacuum cleaner.

  • PURPOSES : The methods of measuring the sound from the noise source are Pass-by method and NCPX (Noble Close Proximity) method. These measuring methods were used to determine the linkage of TAPL (Total Acoustic Pressure Level) and SPL (Sound Pressure Level) in terms of frequencies. METHODS : The frequency analysis methods are DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) and FFT (Fast Fourier Transform), CPB (Constant Percentage Bandwidth). The CPB analysis was used in this study, based on the 1/3 octave band option configured for the frequency analysis. Furthermore, the regression analysis was used at the condition related to the sound attenuation effect. The MPE (Mean Percentage Error) and RMSE (Root Mean Squared Error) were utilized for calculating the error. RESULTS : From the results of the CPB frequency analysis, the predicted SPL along the frequency has 99.1% maximum precision with the measured SPL, resulting in roughly 1 dB(A) error. The TAPL results have precision by 99.37% with the measured TAPL. The predicted TAPL results at this study by using the SPL prediction model along the frequency have the maximum precision of 98.37% with the vehicle velocity. CONCLUSIONS : The Predicted SPL model along the frequency and the TAPL result by using the predicted SPL model have a high level of accuracy through this study. But the vehicle velocity-TAPL prediction model from the previous study by using the log regression analysis cannot be consistent with the TAPL result by using the predicted SPL model.
