Prediction of Highway Traffic Noise - Estimation of Sound Power Level Emitted by Vehicles (고속도로 교통소음 예측-자동차 주행소음의 음향파워레벨 평가)

  • Precise highway traffic noise simulation and reduction require the accurate data for sound power levels omitted by vehicles, varied to road surface, traffic speed, vehicle types and makers, different from countries to countries. In this study, we have elaboratively measured Korea highway traffic noise and parameters affecting noise levels at the nearside carriageway edge. From numerical simulation using the measured results for highway traffic noise, we propose not only two correction factors to enhance the accuracy of Korea highway traffic sound power estimation using ASJ Model-1998 but also its typical power spectrum according to road surface type. The measured and predicted highway traffic noise levels using the proposed sound power show little difference within 1 dB.

A Spectral-spatial Cooperative Noise-evaluation Method for Hyperspectral Imaging

  • Hyperspectral images feature a relatively narrow band and are easily disturbed by noise. Accurate estimation of the types and parameters of noise in hyperspectral images can provide prior knowledge for subsequent image processing. Existing hyperspectral-noise estimation methods often pay more attention to the use of spectral information while ignoring the spatial information of hyperspectral images. To evaluate the noise in hyperspectral images more accurately, we have proposed a spectral-spatial cooperative noise-evaluation method. First, the feature of spatial information was extracted by Gabor-filter and K-means algorithms. Then, texture edges were extracted by the Otsu threshold algorithm, and homogeneous image blocks were automatically separated. After that, signal and noise values for each pixel in homogeneous blocks were split with a multiple-linear-regression model. By experiments with both simulated and real hyperspectral images, the proposed method was demonstrated to be effective and accurate, and the composition of the hyperspectral image was verified.

Evaluation of Tendency for Characteristics of MRI Brain T2 Weighted Images according to Changing NEX: MRiLab Simulation Study (자기공명영상장치의 뇌 T2 강조 영상에서 여기횟수 변화에 따른 영상 특성의 경향성 평가: MRiLab Simulation 연구)

  • Recently, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which can acquire images with good contrast without exposure to radiation, has been widely used for diagnosis. However, noise that reduces the accuracy of diagnosis is essentially generated when acquiring the MR images, and by adjusting the parameters, the noise problem can be solved to obtain an image with excellent characteristics. Among the parameters, the number of excitation (NEX) can acquire images with excellent characteristics without additional degradation of image characteristics. In contrast, appropriate NEX setting is required since the scan time increases and motion artifacts may occur. Therefore, in this study, after fixing all MRI parameters through the MRiLab simulation program, we tried to evaluate the tendency of image characteristics according to changing NEX through quantitative evaluation of brain T2 weighted images acquired by adjusting only NEX. To evaluate the noise level and similarity of the acquired image, signal to noise ratio (SNR), contrast to noise ratio (CNR), root mean square error (RMSE) and peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) were calculated. As a result, both noise level and similarity evaluation factors showed improved values as NEX increased, while the increasing width gradually decreased. In conclusion, we demonstrated that an appropriate NEX setting is important because an excessively large NEX does not affect image characteristics improvement and cause motion artifacts due to a long scan.

Road Noise Prediction Based on Frequency Response Function of Tire Utilizing Cleat Excitation Method (크리트 가진법을 이용한 타이어특성에 따른 로드노이즈 예측 연구)

  • It is important for identification of noise and vibration problem of tire to consider influence of interaction between road and tire. A quantification of road noise is a challenging issue in vehicle NVH due to extremely complicated transfer paths of road noise as well as the difficulty in an experimental identification of input force from tire-road interaction. A noise caused by tire is divided into road noise(structure-borne noise) and pattern noise(air-borne noise). Pattern noise is caused by pattern shape of tire, which has larger than 500 Hz, but road noise is generated by the interactions between a tire and a vehicle body. In this paper, we define the quantitative analysis for road noise caused by interactions between tire and road parameters. For the identification of road noise, the chassis dynamometer that is equipped $10mm{\times}10mm $ square cleat in the semi-anechoic chamber is used, and the tire spindle forces are measured by load cell. The vibro-acoustic transfer function between ear position and wheel center was measured by the vibro-acoustic reciprocity method. In this study three tires with different type of mechanical are used for the experiment work.

Prediction Method for Trailing-edge Serrated Wind Turbine Noise (풍력발전기 톱니형 뒷전 블레이드 소음 예측 기법)

  • The reduction of noise from wind turbines has been studied using various methods. Some examples include controlling wind turbine blades, designing low-noise-emitting wind turbine blades, and using trailing-edge serrations. Among these methods, serration is considered an effective noise reduction method. Various studies have aimed to understand the effects of trailing-edge serration parameters. Most studies, however, have focused on fixed-wing concepts, and few have analyzed noise reduction or developed a prediction method for rotor-type blades. Herein, a noise prediction method, composed of two noise prediction methods for a wind turbine with trailing-edge serrations, is proposed. From the flow information obtained by an in-house program (WINFAS), the noise from non-serrated blades is calculated by turbulent ingestion noise and airfoil self-noise prediction methods. The degree of noise reduction caused by the trailing-edge serrations is predicted in the frequency domain by Lyu's method. The amount of noise reduction is subtracted from the predicted result of the non-serrated blade and the total reduction of the noise from the rotor blades is calculated.

Development of a Sound Quality Index for the Evaluation of an Intake Noise of a Passenger Car (급가속시 차량의 흡기소음에 대한 음질지수 개발)

  • In this paper, a sound quality index for the evaluation of the vehicle intake noise was developed through a correlation analysis of the objective measurement and the subjective evaluation. First, intake orifice noise was measured at the wide-open throttle sweep condition. And then, the acoustic transfer function between intake orifice noise and interior noise was measured. Simultaneously, subjective evaluation was carried out with a 10-scale score by 8 special engineers. The correlation analysis between the psychoacoustic parameters derived from the measurement and the subjective evaluation was performed. The most critical factor was determined and the corresponding sound quality index for intake noise was obtained from the multiple factor regression analysis method. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed index was validated.

Radiated Noise of Helical Gear-plate System (헬리컬기어-플레이트 시스템의 방사소음)

  • This work analytically investigated the radiated noise of a helical gear-housing system due to the excitation of helical gears. The helical gears were modeled as a 12-degree of freedom mass-spring-damper system; the shaft was modeled as a rod, a beam, and a torsional shaft; and the gear housing was modeled as a clamped circular plate with viscous damping. The modeling of this system used transfer matrices for helical gears, shafts, and bearings. Damping for both the bearings and the plate were obtained by modal testing. For the evaluation of noise, sound pressure from the plate due to the force and the moment in both radial and tangential directions was analytically derived by the Rayleigh integral. The analytical derivation and parameters from the experiment were applied to an analysis of noise for the two sets of helical gears with differing gear ratios. The analysis showed that the moment excitation in both helical gears contributed more to the noise of the plate than axial force excitation.

  • High pressure hose having tuning cables, called 'Resonator hose' is frequently used to attenuate pressure ripple generated by the pump for reducing the vehicle interior noise. A number of studies have been conducted on the resonator hose and its analytical models. However, there are few studies which deal with the influence of resonator hose on vehicle interior noise because the most of studies focused on transmission loss of the resonator hose. This paper presents NVH test results of power steering system and frequency analysis results. In the frequency analysis, both the relations between vibration, pressure ripple and vehicle interior noise and also the design parameters of high pressure hose influencing on vehicle interior noise were discussed. The test was done for various high pressure hose specimens in full turn condition.

  • The purpose of this study is to obtain a foundation data for chassis design and road noise reduction of automobiles. Using the combination of the automobile, radial tires and instrumentation equipment, experimental investigation were carried out to examine the characteristics of the structural vibration of tire as the key to obtaining the effective parameters for reducing road noise. From the results of experimental studies it has been confirmed that the existence of important frequency ranges, which were attributable to the suspension and chassis system. The tire, axle and chassis natural frequency of automobile govern the road noise. Results that material property of tire and experimental condition are parameter for shifting of tire natural frequency, which enables a designer of an automobile to foresee the influence of the various design factors on the road noise.

  • Axial fans are widely used in household electrical appliances due to their easy usage and high flow rate for cooling capacity. At the same time, the noise generated by these fans causes one of serious problems. In order to calculate the noise of a fan, we develop the software IFD - Intranet Fans Design. With this software we can design, analysis the performance and predict the noise of fan. The prediction model, which allowed the calculation of acoustic pressure at the blade passing frequency and it's higher harmonic frequencies, has been developed by Lowson's equation. To calculate the unsteady resultant force of the blade, time-marching free-wake method is used.
