Perilla is an excellent oil crop for linolenic acid production but still needs more research to improve grain yield and chemical properties. We tried to estimate the possibility for improving grain yield and its quality by applying nitrogen top dressing(4kg per 10a) at 5 days after flowering stage of perilla, using a cultivar Yujin. This study investigated the growth characteristics and seed quality. Nitrogen top dressing on the flowering stage has little affected on such traits as length, node number and diameter of main stem, and branch, cluster and capsules numbers per plant. But compared with standard cultivation as a control, top dressing showed more leaf chlorophyll content by 85%, higher 1000-grain-weight by 31%, and one day extension of maturing period; consequently, grain outyielded by 60% with 123kg per 10a. Seed chemical components also showed 33.3% protein and 48% oil contents that were 11.5% and 6.2% higher than those of control, respectively. Also by top dressing, saturated fatty acid (palmitic and stearic acid) decreased and linoleic acid among unsaturated fatty acids increased. It is concluded that nitrogen topdressing at late flowering stage promotes grain yield and quality of perilla.
To search for the optimal nitrogen application method for the machine transplanting to Dongjinbyeo, compared to conventional method, in the various methods of nitrogen split application at different growth stages of rice plant. This experiment was performed at Honam Crop Experiment Station, in 1985 year. The results were as followed; the nitrogen contents of leaf blade was the highest at maximum tillering stage under the conventional method and reduction division stage under the nitrogen top-dressing at panicle initiation and 5 times split application of nitrogen for the whole rice growth stages. CGR, RGR and NAR after heading was highest under 5 times split application of nitrogen for the whole rice growth stages. Relationships between CGR and NAR, NAR and RGR, CGR and RGR showed the positive correlation significantly at each rice growth stage, respectively, and showed more high correlation according to further rice growth stages. The degree of contribution of CGR to rice grain yield was the highest at 20 days after heading. Rice grail: yield was higher under top-dressing of nitrogen at panicle initiation and basal application (30%) + 4 times equal dispensing top-dressing after basal application of nitrogen than conventional method.

This experiment was carried out at National Crop Experiment Station in 1994 to obtain basic information of growth characters and yield of rice under various nitrogen split application methods on different soil textures in direct seeding on dry paddy. Hwaseongbyeo sown on April 27 by flat drill seeding, and irrigation was done at 3 leaf stage after seedling establishment. Number of seedling stand was 159~177 seedlings per $m^2$ regardless of soil texture and nitrogen application method. Number of panicle per unit area in loam was higher than in sandy loam, and it also was higher in top dressing plots, which were 3 times application at rate of 40-30-30% (3rd leaf stage -7th leaf stage -panicle initiation stage) and 4 times application 10-30-30-30%(basal-3rd leaf stage -7th leaf stage -panicle initiation stage), than in conventional method. Leaf colour, leaf area index and dry matter production at heading stage were highest at top dressing plots among the nitrogen application methods in both sandy loam and loam. Lodging index in top dressing plots increased by low breaking weight with long culm. There were field lodging of degree 3 in top dressing plots. Rice yield in sandy loam, loam increased by 7~9%, 6~9% in top dressing of nitrogen, respectively.
A study was carried out to investigate the effect of application time of fertilizer nitrogen on its rate of uptake and its distribution in rice plant. The rate of applied fertilizer was 100kg/ha, as a single application at transplanting time and four equal split applications of 25kg/ha was applied at transplanting time, 3 weeks after transplanting, 1 week before the primodial initiation stage of growth and at the flag leaf stage of growth, respectively. The ammonium sulfate was labelled with N-15, as 1% atom excess for single application and 4.4% atom excess for split applications. The results are sumarized as follows: 1. The effect of split application of nitrogen on yield was observed. The yield of brown rice of the single application at transplanting time was 3.1 ton/ha and the split application was 3.4 ton/ha. However, without nitrogen the yield was reduced to 1.9 ton/ha. 2. The number of grains per panicle and 1000 grains weight were increased as split application of nitrogen, but for the number of panicles per hill and maturing rate, the single application of nitrogen revealed favorable results. 3. The rate of uptake of applied fertilizer nitrogen showed a tendency that the efficiency of fertilizer nitrogen increased by top dressing. The rate of uptake of applied nitrogen as basal application, first top dressing, second top dressing and third top dressing was 28%, 33% 51% and 63%, respectively. 4. After shooting stage of the growth, nitrogen in straws transfered to grains. The nitrogen applied at flag leaf stage was absorbed by root and easily accumulated in grains rather than straw.

Recently, wheat consumption has been increasing in Korea, requiring increased production. Nitrogen fertilization is a critical determinant in crop yield; therefore, it is necessary to optimize the nitrogen fertilization regime with current trends that emphasize the minimum impact of nitrogen fertilizer on the environment. In this study, both nondestructive spectral analysis using a hyperspectral camera and growth analysis were performed to determine the optimal N top-dressing rates after heading. The nitrogen application regimes consisted of three conditions according to the secondary top-dressing rate: N4:3:0 (0 kg 10 a-1), N4:3:3 (2.73 kg 10 a-1), and N4:3:6 (5.46 kg 10 a-1). Subsequently, growth and physiological investigations were performed at the jointing, heading, and ripening stages of wheat, and spectral investigations were conducted. On April 29, as the nitrogen fertilization rate was increased to N4:3:3 and N4:3:6, plant height and grain yield increased by 4% and 8%, and 8% and 52%, respectively, compared to those under N4:3:0. Leaf area index and SPAD value also increased by 13% and 24%, and 32% and 43%, respectively. The R (red), G (green), and B (blue) of leaf color were lowered by 15, 11, and 4 in N4:3:3 and 44, 34, and 18 in N4:3:6, respectively, as compared to the control. Grain yield was the highest at high top-dressing (N4:3:6), however, there was no difference between no top-dressing (N4:3:0) and intermediat top-dressing (N4:3:3). The reflectance analyzed using a hyperspectral camera showed a difference in the near-infrared (NIR) region on March 19, and on April 29, there was a difference both in the visible light region greater than 550 nm and the NIR region. Vegetation indices differed according to fertilization regime, except for the greenness index (GI). The results of this study showed that not only growth and physiological analysis but also spectral indices can be used to optimize the nitrogen top-dressing rate.
This study was conducted to find out the effects of nitrogen, potassium application on the plant growth, grain yield and nodule formation of Winged bean. Plant height, number of branches, number of leaves, leaf area, NAR, RGR and CGR increased with basal and top dressing of nitrogen and potassium application. Especially CGR was increased significantly with the added amount of potassium. Number of nodules and nodule dry weight decreased with application of basal and top dressing nitrogen, but increased with the added amount of potassium. Green pod, tuber and grain yield increased with application of basal and top dressing nitrogen, and the added amount of potassium. There appeared positive correlation coefficient between grain yield and growth charateristics, and between grain yield and components. But there showed negative correlation coefficient among yield, number of nodules, dry weight and P$_2$O$\_$5/ contents in leaf.
The higher fertilizer application level and frequency of additional fertilizer increase the higher the growing characters of plant height, No. of leaves, No. of stem per plant, and No. of ears per main stem, etc., appeared. The yield characters of No. of grains per plant, percentage of threshing, weight of 1 $\ell$, weight of 100 grains and seed yield per 10a appeared high both in used N 14kg, 40% as the basic dressing, 30% as the 1st top dressing, 20% as the 2nd top dressing and 10% as the 3rd top dressing, and in used N 18kg as the total amount of basic dressing. Dispersion analysis showed the difference of significant level according to the interactions, among fertilizer application levels, among fertilizational methods, and between fertilizer application and fertilizational method.
This experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of top dressing of nitrogen and harvest time on the growth, feed value and anthocyanin content for developing functional feed of colored barley. A colored barley cultivar, Boanchalbori, was tested in this experiment. Top dressing was applied at seven separate growth stages, regeneration time (RT), and intervals of 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70 days after RT, and harvested at different time from 20 days after heading (DAH) to 40 DAH with 10 days interval in split plot design with three replications. Plant height was increasing with earlier top dressing, but not affected by harvest time. Percent dry matter was increasing with earlier top dressing and later harvests. Protein content was increased with later top dressing and harvests, but percent NDF, ADF and TDN was not significant. Total anthocyanin content was increased with earlier top dressing, included increasing C3G (cyanidin-3-glucoside) and delphinidin. The C3G and delphinidin were detected from 25 DAH and P3G (pelargonidin-3-g1ucoside), cyanidin and perlagonidin from 30 DAH. Their contents were increased significantly as harvest was delayed. This experiment provides some interesting results with respects to optimum top dressing and harvest time for the functional feed production of the colored barley.
This study was conducted to evaluate the amount of nitrogen (N) top dressing based on the normalized difference vegetation indices (NDVI) by ground based sensors for leaf perilla under the polyethylene house. Experimental design was the randomized complete block design for five N fertilization levels and conventional fertilization with 3 and 4 replications in Gumsan-gun and Milyang-si field, respectively. Dry weight (DW), concentration of N, and amount of N uptake by leaf perilla as well as NDVIs from sensors were measured monthly. Difference of growth characteristics among treatments in Gumsan field was wider than Milyang. SPAD-502 chlorophyll meter reading explained 43.4% of the variability in N content of leaves in Gumsan field at $150^{th}$ day after seedling (DAS) and 45.9% in Milyang at $239^{th}$ DAS. Indexes of red sensor (RNDVI) and amber sensor (ANDVI) at $172^{th}$ day after seedling (DAS) in Gumsan explained 50% and 57% of the variability in N content of leaves. RNDVI and ANDVI at $31^{th}$ DAS in Milyang explained 60% and 65% of the variability in DW of leaves. Based on the relationship between ANDVI and N application rate, ANDVI at $172^{th}$ DAS in Gumsan explained 57% of the variability in N application rate but non significant relationship in Milyang field. Average sufficiency index (SI) calculated from ratio of each measurement index per maximum index of ANDVI at $172^{th}$ DAS in Gumsan explained 73% of the variability in N application rate. Although the relationship between NDVIs and growth characteristics was various upon growing season, SI by NDVIs of ground based remote sensors at top dressing season was thought to be useful index for recommendation of N top dressing rate of leaf perilla.
To elucidate the proper nitrogen application method for machine transplanting of rice infant seedling in no-tilled paddy, Dongjinbyeo was used and nitrogen was applied five methods including conventional application method. Leaf color was darker at 80% of total nitrogen was applied as basal and lighter at 20% of total nitrogen was reduced than conventional application method in tillering stage, but wasn't significantly different after panicle formation stage among the application method. And it was thinner at tillering stage and was darker after panicle formation stage in no-tilled paddy compared with tilled paddy. Tiller number, LAI and top dry weight were more at 80% of total nitrogen was ap-plied as basal than conventional application method, and more in tilled paddy than no-tilled one at tillering stage, but at heading stage they were highest at top dressing applied 25 days after transplanting. C.G.R was highest at top dressing for tillering was delayed and it was lower in no-tilled paddy at tillering stage but was higher after panicle formation stage than in tilled one. Yield was highest at top dressing time was delayed among nitrogen application method, but wasn't significantly different between tilled method in same nitrogen application method.
