The growth and structure of CNTs dependent on the catalysts using thermal CVD

  • We have investigated the catalyst effect on the growth and structure of CNTs using thermal chemical vapor deposition. The respective growth rate of CNTs shows that the performance of catalysts is in the order of nickel (Ni)>cobalt (Co)>iron (Fe). The average diameter of CNTs follows the sequence of Fe, Co, and Ni catalysts. The structure of CNTs reveals almost same morphology regardless of catalyst but the crystallinity of CNTs is largely dependent on catalyst. The crystallinity of CNTs synthesized from Fe catalyst is higher than that from Ni or Co catalyst. We demonstrate that the growth rate, the diameter, and the crystallinity of CNTs can be manipulated by selecting the catalysts.

NiO 촉매에 의한 CO 산화반응에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Catalytic Oxidation Reaction of Carbon Monoxide with Nickel Oxide)

  • The catalytic reaction between carbon monoxide and oxygen was investigated with the various nickel oxide catalysts at different partial pressures of carbon monoxide and oxygen and at reaction temperatures in the region of 120$^{circ}$to 250$^{circ}C$. The reaction has the highest rate with the nickel oxide catalyst which is sintered at low temperature. A reaction mechanism to explain the data is derived. From the Arrhenius equation, the activation energies in the region of experimental temperatures are found to be from 5.49 to 9.15 kcal/mole. The concentration of excess oxygen in the nickel oxide seems to vary according to the sintering temperatures and periods and is the controlling factor in determining the type of kinetics followed by the catalytic reaction.

Catalytic Reduction of ortho- and meta-Nitroaniline by Nickel Oxide Nanoparticles

  • Nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles were synthesized by a reaction of nickel nitrate hexahydrate (Ni(NO3)2·6H2O) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The synthesized NiO nanoparticles were examined with X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy. The NiO nanoparticles were used as the catalyst for the reduction of o- and m-nitroaniline to phenylenediamine. The reduction rate of m-nitroaniline was faster than that of o-nitroaniline. The reduction rate for both o- and m-nitroaniline increased as the reaction temperature increased. The rate of reduction for nitroaniline followed a pseudo first-order reaction rate law.

  • $C_9$ aromatics의 transakylation에 대한 금속담지 H-mordenite의 촉매활성 및 선택도에 관한 실험이 고압의 연속흐름 고정층 반응기에서 수행되었다. 니켈담지 H-mordenite(T-Ni) 촉매는 높은 활성을 나타내었으며, 이 활성의 감소속도가 느렸다. 몰리브덴 및 니켈이 담지된 H-mordenite(T-NiMo) 촉매도 높은 활성을 나타내었으며, 탄화수소의 탄화를 억제하였다. T-Ni 및 T-NiMo 촉매의 선택도는 실험범위 내에서 반응온도가 증가함에 따라 감소하였지만, 상업적으로 사용되는 T촉매의 선택도는 반응온도가 증가함에 따라 서서히 증가하였다. 촉매의 초기활성 및 활성감소 측면에서는 T-Ni 및 T-NiMo 촉매의 성능이 T촉매보다 우수하였으며, 몰리브덴의 첨가는 T-Ni 촉매의 안정성을 다소 개선하였다.

  • Nickel based oxygen transfer materials supported on two different YSZs were tested to evaluate their performance in methane chemical-looping reforming. The oxygen transfer materials of YSZs were selected with different amount of the doped yittrium in the $ZrO_2$ structure. The yittrium of 8 mol% stabilized the zirconia oxide to a cubic structure compare to the 3 mol% doping, which is known to be a good for oxygen transfer. Various nickel amounts (16wt.%, 32wt.%, 48wt.%) were loaded on the selected supports. The nickel amount of 32% shows the optimized catalyst structure with good physical properties and reducibility from the XRD, BET and H2-TPR analysis, especially when the support of 8YSZ was used. From the methane chemical-looping reforming, hydrogen was produced by methane decomposition catalyzed by Ni on both YSZs. Comparing two YSZ supports of 3YSZ and 8YSZ during the cycling tests, the catalyst with 8YSZ (Ni 32%) exhibits not only the higher methane conversion and hydrogen production but also a faster reaction rate reaching to the stable point.

  • Nickel oxide was deposited on mesoporous silica by atomic layer deposition (ALD) consisting of sequential exposures to Ni(cp)2 and $H_2O$. NiO/silica samples were characterized by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), etc. The flow-type reactor was used to measure activity of NiO/silica catalyst for catalytic combustion of toluene. The activity of NiO/silica catalyst was evaluated in terms of toluene removal efficiency and selectivity to $CO_2$ and compared with those of bare nickel oxide nanoparticles. In order to investigate influence of reaction temperature on combustion aspect, the catalytic combustion experiments were carried out at various temperatures. We show that both bare and supported NiO can be efficient catalysts for total oxidation of toluene at a temperature as low as $250^{\circ}C$.

  • 알칼리형 연료전지의 수소극 촉매로 사용되는 Raney 니켈의 제조방법과 조촉매 첨가에 따른 전극특성을 전기화학적 방법을 통하여 고찰하였다. Raney 니켈은 소결온도를 $700^{\circ}C$로 하고 니켈 대 알루미늄의 함량비를 중량비 60:40으로 하여 제조한 것이 전극성능이 우수하였다. 조촉매로 티타늄을 첨가하면 촉매활성과 전극특성이 증가함을 알았으며 특히 2w/o의 티타늄이 첨가된 전극이 2.4A/g의 가장 우수한 질량활성을 갖고 있었고 이때의 촉매의 평균 입자크기는 $5.8{\mu}m$였다. 임피던스법에 의해 전극반응의 거동을 평가하였으며 티타늄이 2w/o 첨가된 전극에서의 저항값과 capacity를 측정한 결과 $0.3{\Omega}cm^2$, $0.42F/cm^2$을 나타내었다.
