Quantitative Investigation of Grain Growth in Carbide Added(Mo$_2$C, ZrC and WC) to TiC-Ni Matrix Cermets

  • The growth of solid particles in TiC-XC-2vo1.% and TiC-XC-30vo1.% Ni alloys, (where X=Zr, W or Mo) was fitted to the equation of the form $d^3$-${do}^3$=Kt during the liquid phase sintering at 1,673K. Also, the grain growth behavior decreased markedly with the addition of ${MO}_2$C or WC and increased with the addition of zrC. The contiguity was greater in the alloys with a smaller growth rate constant and especially, decreased by increasing the Ni content in the TiC-${MO}_2$C-Ni alloy. In addition, the effect of the addition of carbide on the grain growth of 2 vo1.% Ni alloys was found to be similar to that of 30vo1.% Ni alloys. Consequently, the grain growth mechanism cannot be explained by the usual solution / reprecipitation process, but can be explained in terms of a new growth velocity equation, which includes the effects of contiguous carbide grain boundaries in restricting the overall grain growth, as well as the area of the solid / liquid interface in the alloy.

Spark Plasma Sintering of the Ductile Cu-Gas-atomized Ni Bulk Metallic Glass Composite Powders (연질 Cu 분말-가스분무 Ni계 벌크 비정질 복합분말의 방전플라즈마 소결에 관한 연구)

  • Ni based($Ni_{57}Zr_{20}Ti_{18}Si_2Sn_3$) bulk metallic glass(BMG) powders were produced by a gas atomization process, and ductile Cu powders were mixed using a spray drying process. The Ni-based amorphous powder and Cu mixed Ni composite powders were compacted by a spark plasma sintering (SPS) processes into cylindrical shape. The relative density varied with the used SPS mold materials such as graphite, hardened steel and WC-Co hard metal. The relative density increased from 87% to 98% when the sintering temperature increased up to $460^{\circ}C$ in the WC-Co hard metal mold.

Comparison of Shear Bond Strength of Ceramic Fused to Ni-Cr and Co-Cr Alloy by Heat Treatment (도재용착용 Ni-Cr 합금과 Co-Cr 합금의 열처리에 따른 전단결합강도 비교)

  • Purpose: This study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of the ceramic fused to Ni-Cr alloy(Bellabond plus) and Co-Cr alloy(Wirobond C) by heat treatment. Methods: Metal specimens were divided into 5 groups for each alloy according to heat treatment conditions prior to porcelain application. Fifteen specimens from each group were subjected to a shear load a universal testing machine using a 0.1mm/min cross-head speed and one specimen from each group was observed with EDX line profile. Results: The diffusion of metal oxide observed far in the specimen heat treated than no heat treated in the opaque layer. The shear bond strength measured highest to BP3(50.50MPa), WC2(50.49MPa) groups and measured lowest from BP1(35.1MPaa), WC1(39.66MPa) groups which were not treated with heat, and there was a significant difference (p<0.05). Conclusion: The shear bond strength of Ni-Cr alloy(Bellabond plus) and Co-Cr alloy(Wirobond C) measured similar 5 groups all.

Evaluation of Vacuum Brazed WC and Stainless Steel for Oil Sands Plant (오일샌드 플랜트용 초경합금과 스테인레스강의 진공브레이징 특성평가)

  • Microstructure and tensile strength of the vacuum brazed stainless steel(STS304) and WC-8 %Co were investigated. For brazing, the BNi-2, 3(A.W.S standard) were used as filler metals. It was found that metallic compounds of W-Ni were observed at the between WC metrix and brazed layer. Among these filler metals, the BNi-2 showed excellent wettability, but tensile strength was lower than BNi-3. The fracture of the brazed specimens with BNi-2 was occurred at the between WC metrix and brazed layer. The fracture of the brazed specimens with BNi-3 was occurred at the between WC metrix and brazed layer, and between brazed layer and stainless steel.

  • Mechanism of formation of electroless composite coatings is similar to that of electrodeposited composite coating, but the amount of particles entraped in electroless coating is higher that the one of electrodeposited coatings. The methol of entrapment by the metal for SiC and Al2O3 particles is different from that for WC particles. In the former case the particles are gracually engulfed by the depositing metal, wheran with WC a metal envelope is rapidly fomed around each particles. This difference can be attributed to the difference in electrical resistivity of the particles. Inclusion density of SiC and Al2O3 particles during copeposition depend on the particle size, agitation condition, vabration conditions and electrolyte temperatures.

  • 서멧이란(Cermet) '세라믹 경질상과 금속 결합상의 복합체"를 의미하나 절삭 골구계에서는 좁은 의미의 "TiC 혹은 Ti(CN)을 바탕을 Ni,Co를 결합상으로 하는 초경재료"를 의미한다. 이런한 서멧은 전략 물질적 성격이 강한 Co,W로 구성된 WC-Co 초경 합금을 대체하기 위해 고안되었는ㄴ데 ㄴ놓은 경도와 고온에서의 화학적 안정성, 낮은 비중과 저렴한 원료 가격등이 장점이나 WC-Co에 비해 상대적으로 낮은 인성이 문제점으로 지적 되어왔다.TiC-Ni 서멧의 낮은 인성을 향상시키기 위해 Ti(CN) 고용체를 바탕으로 하고 제2ㅇ, 제3의 탄화물이나 질화물을 첨가하는 개발 연구가 과거 30여 년간 진행되어왔다. 그러나 많은 연구결과가 조성 개발 위주로 진행되어 왔고, 또 실험간의 불일치와 재현성 결여로 인해 보여진 여러 현상에 대한 보편적인 결론을 내리기 힘든 점이 있었다. 특히, 미세구조와 기ㅔ적 특성에 관한 통합적이고 조직적인 연구가 진행되지 못하였다. 이번 발표에서는 발표자 실험실에서 지난 8 년 간 행하여 온 실험 결과를 바탕으로 탄화물서멧에 나타나는 독특한 현상, 고용체 탄질화물의 열역학적 안정성, 서멧 재료의 유심구조, 표면 에너지 및 strain, 에너지가 미세 구조 형성에 미치는 영향, 그리고 표면층 형성 등 서멧 개발에 관한 중요 관심사에 대해 간단히 살펴보려고 한다.해 간단히 살펴보려고 한다.

  • 최근 사회전반에 걸쳐 사용되어온 경질 Cr 코팅이 제조 시 발암물질로 알려져 있는 $Cr^{+6}$을 발생함에 따라 이를 대체할 수 있는 표면개질법이 대두되고 있다. 또한 경질 Cr 코팅은 일반적으로 $200^{\circ}C$의 온도에서부터 경도가 서서히 감소되며 $400^{\circ}C$ 이상에서는 사용하기 어려운 제한점이 있다. 따라서 이 이상의 고온 안정성을 가지는 우수한 표면개질법에 관한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다.

An analysis of the Wi-Ni Carbide Alloy Diffusion Bonding technique in its application for DME Engine Fuel Pump

  • Dimethyl Ether(DME) engine use a highly efficient alternative fuel having a great quantity of oxygen and has a advantage no polluting PM gas. The existing DME fuel cam material is a highly expensive carbide alloy, and it is difficult to take a price advantage. Therefore the study of replacing body area with inexpensive steel material excluding piston shoe and contact area which demands high characteristics is needed. The development of WC-Ni base carbide alloy optimal bonding composition technique was accomplished in this study. To check out the influence of bonding temperature and time, bonding characteristics of sintering temperature was experimented. The hardness of specimen and bonding rate were measured using ultrasound equipment. The bonding state of each condition was excellent, and the thickness of mid-layer, temperature and maintaining time were measured. The mid-layer thickness according to bonding temperature and maintaining time were observed with optical microscope. We analyzed the micro-structural analysis, formation of bonding specimen, wafer fabrication and fuel cam abrasion test. Throughout this study, we confirmed that the fuel cam for DME engine which demands high durability against velocity and pressure is excellent.
