Development of fundamental technology for dynamic analysis of the high speed EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) (동력분산형 고속철도 주행성능 동역학 해석을 위한 기반기술 개발)

  • The development of a new railway vehicle is under progress through the Next Generation High-Speed Rail Development Project in Korea. Its aim is to develope fundamental technology of the vehicle that can run over 400km/h. The new distributed traction bogie system, 'HEMU'(High-speed Electric Multiple Unit), will be used and is different from that of previously developed high speed railway vehicles. Previous vehicles adopted push-pull type system, which means one traction-car drives rest all of the vehicle. Due to the difference, investigation on dynamic behavior and its safety evaluation are necessary, as a part of verification of the design specification. In the paper, current progresses of researches are presented. And the High-Speed Railway vehicle system is evaluated for a dynamic characteristic simulation. Proper dynamic models including air-suspension system, wheel-rail, bogie and car-body is developed according to the vehicle simulation scenario. The basic platform for the development of dynamic solver is prepared using nodal, modal coordinate system and wheel-rail contact module. Operating scenario is prepared using commercial dynamic analysis program and used for development of dynamic model, which contains many parts such as carbodies, bogies and suspension systems. Furthermore, international safety standard is applied for final verification of the system. Finally, the reliability of the dynamic model will be verified with test results in the further researches. This research will propose a better solution when test results shows a problem in the parts and elements. Finally, the vehicle that has excellent performance will be developed, promoting academic achievement and technical development.

  • Fisheries Surveillance System (FSS) is to protect fishing farms a thief. To implement the FSS a speacial test system which can be operate at any natural environments in the practical farm fields is needed. This paper describes some up coming results for the implementation of Radar Car as the special test system which consists of small van-type car, commercial Radar system, Radar Scan Converter(RSC) and, computer system. This Radar Car is designed to test the influences of sea clutter according to the height of Radar Scanner and to verify some effects of side-lobe suppression by special materials attached at each side of the Radar scanner. The post digital signal processing of digital radar signal comes from Radar Scan Converter(RSC) is also discussed, then designed and developed a new RSC in this study.

  • These days the exhaustion of petroleum resources and environmental problems are getting serious. Many researchers are focused on low emission and high performance vehicles. Therefore, we should concern about emission regulation when we design a new car. In this study, we investigated the characteristics of the traditional mechanical engine cooling systems which control the engine temperature using engine speed and wax type thermostat. This experiment used three components which are Radiator fan, water pump and water valve controlled by an electronic system based on the engine status (load, speed). We elucidated how different between traditional mechanical cooling system and electronic cooling system which control coolant temperature and coolant flow rate in a DI diesel engine in this paper. The results revealed a fuel saving and an emission (CO, HC) reduction on NEDC cycle.

  • ELVs (End-of-Vehicles) in Korea incrasease continusely because of increase of used car. Automobile Shredder Residue (ASR) is final product of ELVs (End-of-Vehicles) after recycling. Automobile Shredder Residue are composed of light and heavy fluffs and soil/dust. In this study, 5 ton/day pilot plant of shaft type has been designed and constructed and 15 times of test run were performed. For the stable operation, operation conditions such as the amount of fed ASR and cokes, air flow and temperature in the gasification melting system have been changed and the composition of the produced gas such as $H_2$, CO and $CH_4$ and air pollution compound including dioxin discharged from the stack have been analyzed.

EFFECT OF BRAKE PEDAL IMPEDANCE ON BRAKING PERFORMANCE IN EH-BBW SYSTEM

  • Despite its superior braking performance to conventional vehicles on test tracks, the performance of the ABS-equipped car seems disappointing on real highway. The poor braking performance results from questionable design of the human-machine interface(HMI) of the brake system. Force-displacement relation at the brake pedal has a strong effect on the braking performance. Recently developed brake-by-wire (BBW) system may allow us to tailor the force feel at the brake pedal. This study aims at exploring analytical ways of designing human-machine interface of BBW system. In this paper, mathematical models of brake pedal feel for electro-hydraulic BBW (EH-BBW) system are developed, and the braking motion and the characteristics of the driver's leg action are modeled. Based on the dynamic characteristics of the brake pedal and the driver, two new HMI designs for EH-BBW system are proposed. In the designs, BBW system is modeled as a type of master-slave teleoperator. The effectiveness of the proposed designs is investigated using driving simulation.

Kansei engineering research on deodorizing airflesheners

  • In Japan, deodorizing airflesheners are very popular to make air flesh by deodorizing odor in rooms, toilet as well as inside a car. There are in different features in deodorizing material of Gel and Liquid, in a shape of bottle from tall to low height, in bottle color and so on. These different features will influence the customer's feeling to the products of deodorizing airfleshener. This paper deals with the psychological evaluation of the features of deodorizing airfleshener on the SD scale with kansei words. The evaluated data were analyzed by Quantification Theory Type I that leads to the relational rules between the product feature and the kansei words. The beautiful and graceful kansei consists of low height, middle width deformed round shape, but easy operational feature is based on tall shape design. These results are helpful to develop a new product of deodorizing airfleshener.

  • Idle shake vibration characteristics of a vehicle are mainly influenced not only by the stiffnesses of the beam type structures such as pillars and rockers, but also by the stiffnesses of the joint structures, at which several beam structures are jointed together. In the early design stage of the car body structure a simple FE model has been used, in which joints are modeled as linear springs to represent the stiffnesses of the joint structures. In this paper a new modeling technique for the joint structure is presented using an equivalent beam, instead of using a spring. The modeling technique proposed is utilized to design optimal joint structures that meet the required vibration performance of the total vehicle structure.

An Analytical Review on the Dynamic Behaviors of Welded PL girder Bridges of KNR (KNR 용접형 판형교의 동적거동에 관한 해석적 고찰)

  • KTX is going to directly operate on the existing plate girder bridges before the complete construction of new high-speed line. Also the speed and traffic volume is increased after electrification of conventional line. Then, it is necessary to check the dynamic behaviors of these bridges. Therefore, this paper reviews the dynamic behaviors of welded plate girder bridges designed by L-22, a standard load type of KNR. The span lengths of plate girder analyzed here are 6.6m, 9.7m, 12.9m, 16.0m, 19.2m, 22.3m, 25.4m and 31.1m. Using 2-D dynamic analysis, vertical deflection ratios of plate girder and maximum accelerations of car body are calculated. And the analytical results are compared with those of design criteria.

  • Western coastal ports of Korea experience severe tidal range with up to 9.7 meter between high and low tides. The significant water level variation implicates many operational difficulties during loading and un-loading from cargo ships. To overcome problems due to tide and to secure the continuous loading operation, a new loading system for container cargo called "container pallet system" is developed and introduced in the paper. Three types of structure forms, offshore structural deck, double bottom structural form and the mixed form, are inverstigated with MSC/NASTRAN software. The results prove that the mixed type structure with truss enforcement is found to be the most appropriate for the region.

  • Vehicle body structures are formed by thousands of spot welds and fatigue failure of vehicle structures occur near the spot welds after driving a long way at a durability test road. It is necessary to know accurately the reason of the fatigue failure of the spot weld in the developing stage in order to reinforce it. Many investigations have been done regarding the strength of spot welded joints, contributing to understand its fatigue strength. In developing process, a fatigue failed spot welded area can be repaired by $CO_2$ welding or another method to continue the test. To know the effect of reinforcing these welds, several methods of welding were analyzed and compared to spot welding. With the results of this test, the appropriate repair method can be used instead of spot welding during the development of new car and best design guide can be given for the strength. In this study, fatigue and static tensile tests are made and microstructure is investigated for the purpose of estimating the strength of welded joints by using spot welded and $CO_2$ plug welded specimens. The tested specimens are of two types : Tensile-shear type(TS) and L-tension type(LT).
