  • A virtual garment fitting system which fits the top and bottom of a garment on 3D body data is introduced. This system uses the laser scanned 3D body data and the digital images photographed the front and back of a garment. The digital images are modeled to reflect tensions among particles in the images and the friction and gravity effects are considered in the fitting process to the body data. When a bottom is fitted, a virtual belt to hold the bottom in the waist is introduced since gravity effects pull down it. Also the process for fitting the top and bottom on layers is proposed here. The system has the strengths that it uses only the front and back image of a garment instead of using complicated patterns of a garment, and provides a realistic fit result as a 3D figure. As on-line retailing shop in present displays front and back images of garments, this system also does. However this system provides a differentiated service to user than present retailing shop as showing a 3D fit image. It will make a new trend in online shop retailing of garment.

Internet apparel businesses are required to provide various consumer information to its consumers to facilitate the decision making process. For elderly consumers, who might have different shopping behaviors from the younger consumer segments, different kinds of information with higher quality would be required. As a preliminary step to develop internet consumer information model for elderly consumers, this study seeks to investigate the current practice of information offerings of internet apparel businesses for elderly consumers. Ten internet sites carrying apparel products for elderly consumers were selected and analyzed their offerings of consumer information by five researchers. This study found that internet apparel businesses targeting elderly consumers were still small-sized and lack of sophisticated technology to support these elderly consumers. Most web sites provided basic product information and service information but not fashion and trend related information. Managerial implications were discussed.

This study aims to determine the factors impacting customer loyalty of Saigon Co.op supermarket in Vietnam. Research design, data and methodology: this study applied the multiple regression analysis with 250 samples collected from Saigon Co.op customers. The questionnaire is provided to respondents via Google Form, and the link is sent to the fan page of Co.op mart on Facebook. Two hundred eighty-seven samples were collected, but 37 samples were removed due to missing values. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and regression analysis are used for data analysis on SPSS software version 20. Results: The findings show all four determinants of Saigon Co.op's customer loyalty, including Product Quality, Brand Image, Price Strategy and Service Quality. Conclusions: managerial recommendations are provided for supermarkets to improve their customer loyalty in Vietnam and other emerging markets. • There have been several attempts to describe the recent phonemona of e-tailing and the competition of e-tailers with traditional retailers. However, it appears that the previous models exhibit some shortcomings. With an extension of the well-known circular city model, this paper attempts to relax those limiting assumptions and addresses various issues around electronic commerce: whether e-tailing will eventually drive out traditional retailing, whether e-tailing will necessarily increase competition and lead to lower prices, and whether all the consumers will be better off with more alternatives to choose from.

  • The purposes of this study are to investigate the formation and the change of apparel retail structure historically with the viewpoint that the retail structure is affected by the process of economic development. This study was done by literature research method and the result of this study is the following. The tailor and seamstress shops, the first clothing shops in Korea, were replaced by ready-made shops, because mass production system which had developed with the industrialization of Korea increased the advantage of economy of scale compared to handicrafts individual one. After that, the production system of apparel industry had been efficient continuously, while retail system had not. The retailing of famous brand apparel conducted by exclusive franchise store caused supplier oriented markets where the opinion and the desire of consumers were not reflected. While the retailing of the unknown brand apparel handled by small retail stores were inefficient. As the apparel industry matured in 1990s, various types of new stores appeared such as specialty stores, discount stores, TV home shopping, internet shopping, outlet malls, and big fashion stores in Dongdeamoon. These new stores have features of seeking profits in mass merchandising. As these large retail stores grow, the apparel retail structure of Korea is changing from a fragmented market to a vertically integrated one. This change is shown by the decrease of stores per inhabitants. With the change of environment, the apparel retail system which has lagged behind comparatively is expected to develop into more efficient system based on the large capital investment which raise the advantage of economy of scale.

  • A well-designed location strategy is an integral and important part of corporate strategy for retail firms. The last five years witnessed major changes in retailing industry. A growing city population, rising income levels. and the emergence of suburb areas presented ratailers with new challenges. Mass discount merchandisers and supermarkets expanded rapidly, spreading from Seoul into smaller cities. The rapid increase of mass discount stores raised new concerns and gave rise to the need from a systematic approach to location analysis. In this paper, we present the mathematical background and characteristics of DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) model, and give a short case study where we apply the DEA model to compute the relative efficiency of 11 Korean mass discount merchandisers. Interpretation of the result is also provided.

  • Less than 3% of India's food basket, consists of processed food, therefore processed food can be viewed as an innovation or new product to Indian consumers. This research investigates the effects of product familiarity and reference groups on Indian consumers' attitudes and purchase behavior of new processed food products. For the study, the model is developed by modifying Cambel and Goodstein's (2001) "Moderate Incongruity Effect" to include important cross-cultural influences on attitudes and purchase decisions among Indian consumers. Empirical analysis was conducted through structural equation modeling (SEM). SEM results indicated that reference group influence has a stronger positive effect on consumers' attitudes and actual purchase behavior of more familiar processed foods than of less familiar processed food. In addition, attitudes have a stronger positive effect on consumers' actual purchase of more familiar than of less familiar processed foods.

  • This study examined relationships among healthy food awareness, behavioral intention toward healthy foods, and actual behavior of Generation Y consumers. This study hypothesized that Generation Y consumers are aware of healthy foods and more likely to eat healthy foods while avoiding junk foods. According to structural equation modeling, all hypothesized paths were statistically significant, meaning that the three constructs in the model showed positive relationships with each other. Results showed that this group of college students is generally aware of healthy foods and have positive intentions toward healthy food choices. Therefore, university foodservice management needs to continue to improve their menus in order to attract this new generation of college student consumers.

  • This year marks the full liberalization(i.e., opening up) of the Korean distribution market to foreign firms. Therefore, we are likely to see much activity by foreign retailers who will be entering the Korean market and indigenous retailers trying to depend their current market positions. The liberalization of Korean distribution market will undoubtedly lead to some erosion of market share of indigenous retailers, but the benefits of rationalization of distribution, stable consumer prices, strengthened competitiveness of indigenous retailers far outweigh the costs. With liberalization, we are likely to see increased growth of "New Modes of Retailing(NMR)." In this paper, I describe the distinguishing characteristics of NMR as economies of scale, self service, large physical facilities, low-to-medium price, and systemization. I also describe the similarities and differences between the various types of NMR. Finally, I describe the fit between the various forms of NMR and the Korean consumer environment.vironment.
