  • Fibro-osseous lesions are a poorly defined category of conditions affecting the jaws and craniofacial bones, and include developmental lesions, reactive or dysplastic lesions, and neoplasms. Fibrous dysplasia and ossifying fibroma are the 2 main types of fibro-osseous lesions affecting the jaw, and ossifying fibroma is a true benign neoplasm of the bone-forming tissues with several well-recognized variants ranging from innocuous to extensively aggressive lesions. However, multiple simultaneous fibro-osseous lesions of the jaw bones involving all quadrants are exceedingly rare. One such case diagnosed by conventional radiography and computed tomography is discussed here.

  • Exacanthomysis marsailiae and Nipponomysis neolingvura are described as new species based on specimens collected with a light trap off the East Sea coast of Korea. E. marsailiae is closely related to Exacanthomysis alaskensis (Banner, 1954) and Exacanthomysis borealis (Banner, 1954). However, E. marsailiae can be distinguished from these species by having slightly grouped spines on lateral margins near the telson apex, and the exopod of male's fourth pleopod more than twice as long as the endopod. N. neolingvura can be distinguished from its closest relative, Nipponomysis lingvura (Murano, 1977), in that the lateral sides of the telson are all armed with spines without any empty space, and that the second segment of the fourth male pleopod is longer than the third one. The report of E. marsailiae from the East Sea of Korea extends the distribution range of the genus Exacanthomysis from the high-latitude North Pacific southward to the mid-latitude waters of the western Pacific. The morphological characteristics of the two current new species are also compared with those of their congeners.

  • Aecial host ranges of four Gymnosporangium species causing cedar-apple rust diseases, G. asiaticum, G. cornutum, 5. japonicum and G. yamadae, were investigated through artificial inoculation. Thirteen species of nine genera among Rosaceous plants, which have been reported as social hosts in Korea, were inoculated with fresh teliospores spores in early days of May of 2000 and of 2001, respectively. In the results, we re-confirmed that there was highly specific relationship between the rust species and aecial hosts and report new aecial hosts of four Gymnosporangium species. Teliospores of G. cornutum collected from Juniperus rigida successively produced spermogonia and aecia only on Sorbus alntifolia, the first report on host alteration of G. cornutum in Korea. Positive responses by teliospores of G. japonicum from J. chinenis of Suwon and from J. chinenis var. horizontalis of Jeju island were obtained only on P. villosa. Crataegus pinnatifida was confirmed as a new aecial host of G. viatium. Until this time, G. ymadae was believed to have Malus as the aecial host. However, teliospores of G. yamadae collected from J. chinensis var. kaizuka successively formed spermogonia and aecia on the leaves of Chaenomeles lagenaria, C. sinensis, Pyrus pyrtifolia var, culta, P. ussuriensis, Malus pumila and M. sileboldii. The date for maturation of spermogonia and aecia, and symptom development varied according to the rust fungi and aecial host plants, respectively.

  • Objectives: In this case report, we will show the effectiveness of herbal medicine with neurofeedback treatment on social phobia. Methods: First, we diagnosed the patient by interview and questionnaire as having social phobia and suffering from anxiety, shaking and palpitation in public places and fear to meet new people. Beside, we examined the pattern of brainwaves by QEEG-8 system. Second, we treated the patient by herbal medicine with neurofeedback treatment for 4 months. Then we conducted new assessments by SCL-90-R, BDI, BAI and QEEG-8 system. Results: The patient's psychological and physiological symptoms were significantly improved. Conclusions: Herbal medicine with neurofeedback can be effective in the treatment of social phobia. Especially, it can be helpful to improve the patient's sensitivity to its physiological symptoms.

  • Purpose: This study aims to explain the effect of Chungsangbangpoong-Tang(as followed CBT) on an adulthoods' acne vulgaris. Methods: This is a case report on a female patient who has been suffering from acne vulgaris since she was 19 years old. To make her acne condition better, we designed to provide a specific combined treatment, mainly drinking CBT 2 or 3 times per a day with taking a herbal, acupuncture therapy and acupuncture once per every week through whole session. Results: After a series of we prescribed CBT treatments, we could find that CBT treatments are effective and available to ameliorate for her symptoms of acne vulgaris within its period. Conclusion: This clinical case study shows us that CBT might have not only a potentiality as a new acne treatment but also an effect as a new available prescription for adulthoods' acne. Hence more specific studies about CBT should be demanded in a treatment fields of adulthoods' acne vulgaris as soon as possible.

  • Distraction osteogenesis is a biologic process in which new bone is formed between bone fragments being separated by a tractional force. This technique has the advantage of initiating new bone growth without bone transplantation and promoting the growth of soft tissue. Mandibular distraction osteogenesis has shown to be effective to treat congenital or acquired mandibular hypoplasias. On the basis of positive results with implant-supported prostheses, the use of implants in the distracted site can significantly help stabilize the prosthesis. We obtained good result in the patient with mandibular deficiency due to trauma, who have been reconstructed with distraction osteogenesis and implant. We report our experiences with literature view.

  • Elementary school classroom designs have been developed toward open education system to provide students diverse and improved educational environments since the early of 1990 in Korea. Unfortunately, the quality of music room has not still shown dramatic improvements due to the lack of the acoustical knowledges of architects. This report aims to investigate typical acoustic quality of previous or current music room of elementary schools and show new acoustic treatment technologies to improve the room acoustic of music room by adapting composite perforated panel system and diffusion technology. The music room at Daihyun Elementary school in Yongin was chosen as a case study of this report. The music room was measured to be analyzed using field measurements and the acoustical specifications of composite perforated panel systems and kinds of diffusors were set. Acoustic measurements were performed after the renovation to show the differences between previous room acoustic and after the acoustic renovations. As the result, the case study has shown that the new composite perforated panel systems and diffusion surfaces lowered reverberation time at proper level along with improving the clarity of music, RASTI, and spatial impressions. Also, acoustic interferences such as comb filtering and flutter echoes have been controlled dramatically by diffusive surfaces. The study shows music rooms in elementary schools, middle and high schools can be improved by adapting composite perforated panel systems and diffusors.

  • This paper reports a new calculation method of three dimensional deposeition rate by level set method. To model an advancement of the surface efficiently, we have developed a new iteration method to re-initialize the level set function. For calculating etching and deposition rate by direct flow, we have developed a visibility test module and a refraction and re-sputtering model. Sputter deposition rate with shadow effect and surface refraction is calculated. We report that difference of profiles in cases that sticking coefficient are 1.0 and 0.3. We report that the difference of the deposition rate on bottom of the hole is caused by a difference of visible angle by the shadowing effect.

  • With the official start of the operations of the three 1.6 m KMTNet telescope systems from 2015 October, we have initiated a program named KMTNet Supernova Program (KSP) from 2015 to 2019 aiming at searching for supernovae (SNe), other optical transients and related sources. Taking advantage of the 24-hour coverage, high cadence and multi-color monitoring observations, this is optimal for discovering early SNe and peculiar ones. From the start of the previous test observing runs of ~half a year, we have performed observations on several nearby galaxy groups and nearby galaxies with short separations on the sky. We have developed data reduction/variable object search pipelines, meanwhile we have discovered some interesting transient objects. We also stacked all the images for given fields, searched for new objects/galaxies, and discovered several new dwarf galaxies, e.g., in the NGC 2784 galaxy group field (H. S. Park et al.'s talk). We will report the current project status and the results obtained.
