A new species, Monoblastus forsythia sp. nov. is described from South Korea. All specimens of this new species were collected on Forsythia koreana (Nakai). A taxonomic study of South Korean Monoblastus was initiated by Uchida in 1930, and until now four species have been recorded from South Korea. The genus Monoblastus is a Holarctic genus with 31 described species, 14 species are Nearctic, seven are Western Palaearctic region, and nine species occur in Eastern Palaearctic region. In the study, I provide description and photos of both sexes of this new species. Also, modified key to species of the South Korean Monoblastus is provided.
The methods used in this study included investigation of media facades used for landmarks in downtown areas in previous studies, visits to these areas, and recording of media facades. The changes in the colors or the size of buildings were analyzed among the recorded cases and 12 of these cases were selected for further study. The sensibility preference of the media facades was evaluated by sorting the 12 kinds of media facades, and providing them as materials to a group of 60 participants (40 undergraduate and 20 graduate students majoring in architecture and design) consisting of an equal proportion of males and females. This study addressed the following four_stage questions: 1) Five questions of recognition evaluation about media facades and the cognitive evaluation items of emotional vocabulary and color preference in each research case; 2) sensibility preference items regarding the media facade color design; and 3) design evaluation items of the media facades; 4) Video clips and still images were recorded from a middle distance at 7p.m to 11p.m. in central New York, Singapore, Seoul, and Beijing. The participants looked at the changes in colors through the video clips in each case and evaluated their preferences through 23 pairs of emotional vocabulary items using system dynamics. Construction of an emotional vocabulary followed, based on previous studies about media facades and color design. To evaluate the sensibility preference and the perceived representative colors of the media facade, this study suggests new emotional responses that depended on the color emotional vocabulary of light in the LED lighting technical evaluation methodology. A media facade with a moving change of colors, unlike a fixed landscape color design, suggests a new communication method based on architectural factors. New architectural color coordination can be presented for urban landscapes at night. Designs that factor in the pedestrians' emotional vocabulary or preference should take precedence over the use of high luminance and various colors.
Three naturalized taxa in Korea such as Scleranthus annuus L., Verbena bonariensis L. and Hordeum jubatum L. were newly recorded. Short descriptions and illustrations for the these species were provided. Especially, Scleranthus L. is first recorded as a new genus of Korean flora.
A sea urchin was collected from Geomundo Island of Jeollanam-do, Korea on July 3, 2009. This specimen was classified as Spatangus luetkeni A. Agassiz 1872 belonging to the family Spatangidae of order Spatangoida based on the morphological characteristics. This genus and species are newly recorded in Korea. It is distinct morphological characters that test is thick and strong, six to eight primary tubercles are in 1 and 4 interambulacra, sternum is equipped with little keel, and color in alcohol is dark violet. This species inhabits tropical waters and usually distributes over the West Pacific from southern Japan to New Zealand.
Thirty-six species of the tribe Tortricini (Tortricidae) in Northeast China are listed with available information. Among them, two species, Acleris hastina (Linnaeus) and A. laiordairana (Duponchel), are reported for the first time from China. Croesia crataegi (Kuznetsov) is newly recorded from Northeast China. Available information, including host plant, distributional range, and biological record, are enumerated.
Taxa in the order Chlorococcales inhabiting Hongcheon River, South Korea were collected and identified from December 2011 to September 2012. As a result, nine taxa in the Order Chlorococcales including unrecorded genera Oocystidium and Heleococcus were newly added to the Korean flora: Oocystidium ovale, Heleococcus mucicola, Chlorella mirabilis, Monoraphidium convolutum var. pseudosabulosum, M. minutum, Raphidocelis mucosa, Eutetramorus tetrasporus, Scenedesmus flavescens, and S. multicauda. The morphological characteristics of the nine taxa identified in this study mostly corresponded to already reported characteristics; however, M. minutum had a shorter cell length than the recorded description, Raphidocelis mucosa and S. flavescens were larger than previous descriptions, and Scenedesmus multicauda had larger spines than the cell itself. Eight of the nine taxa were found in planktonic samples, whereas Heleococcus mucicola was found in an epilithic sample. Therefore the Korean order Chlorococcales, including these newly reported ones, totals to 255 species.

Dinoflagellate species composition has changed around Jeju Island as well as in Korean waters due to global warming and climate changes. An investigation was conducted to monitor changes in planktonic dinoflagellates around Jeju Island from June 2006 to September 2009. A total of 86 species belonging to 14 families and 15 genera were identified, of which 34 species were newly recorded in Korean waters. Among the newly recorded species, >20 were confirmed as tropical species. Thus, the occurrence of such tropical dinoflagellates could be an indicator to monitor of environmental changes including global warming around Jeju Island and in Korean waters.
Two scleractinian species are newly recorded in Korea: Leptoseris mycetoseroides Wells, 1954 and Phyllangia hayamaensis (Eguchi, 1968). The two genera Leptoseris Milne Edwards and Haime, 1849 and Phyllangia Milne Edwards and Haime, 1848 are also newly recorded in Korea. The specimens were collected from the subtidal zones of Jeju-do Island, Korea by SCUBA diving from 1991 to 2007. Leptoseris mycetoseroides is characterized by its platelike growth form, intratentacular budding, irregularly developed collines, single styliform columella, and even septa and septocostae. Phyllangia hayamaensis is distinguished by its encrusting and plocoid growth form of corallites basally united with common coenosteum, trabecular columella, and irregular septal arrangements and paliform lobes.
Some sea urchins were collected from the subtidal rocky bottom of Munseom near Seogwipo, Jejudo Island by SCUBA diving from April to May, 2008 and identified on the basis of their morphological characteristics. Among them, Tripneustes gratilla (Linnaeus, 1758) of Family Toxopneustidae was newly recorded from Korea and redescribed on the specimen collected at a depth of 25 m between Munseom and Sekkiseom. The detailed morphological description was presented with the photographs. This species was characterized by the very naked median areas of ambulacral and interambulacral portions and this genus was the first record in Korea. Eighteen echinoids are so far recorded in Jejudo Island, Korea.
Doryctinae is a large and heterogeneous group with more than 1,000 described. It is idiobiont ectoparasitoids on the larvae of wood-boring and xylophagous beetles. Some species attack larvae of wood boring lepidoptera. In the present study, fifteen species belonging to eight genera of the subfamily Doryctinae are recorded for the first time from Korea: Doryctes Haliday (2 species), Eodendrus Belokobylskij (1 species), Heterospilus Haliday (4 species), Monolexis Förster (1 species), Neurocrassus Snoflak (2 species), Rhoptrocentrus Marshall (1 species), Sonanus Belokobylskij et Konishi (1 species), Spathius Nees (3 speices). The genera Eodendrus Belokobylskij, Monolexis Förster, Rhoptrocentrus Marshall, Sonanus Belokobylskij et Konishi and fifteen species are reported for the first times from Korea. Diagnosis and host information are provided.
