  • Passive optical networks (PONs) are the emerging solution for access networks since PONs provide high bandwidth and the low operation cost. In recent, the new solution in access networks is TWDM PON which is a mixture of WDM (wavelength-division multiplexing) and TDM (time-division multiplexing). This paper proposes a new MAC (media access control) protocol for TWDM PON. In addition, this paper proposes and evaluates a new dynamic bandwidth allocation method for TWDM PON.

  • The current study introduces a new color space applicable to next-generation media such as UHDTV and 3D-TV systems that are in the middle of development. Display referred approach was taken into account rather than scene referred approach for deriving a new RGB-primary set forming the new color space. The reproducible color range generated by the newly suggested RGB-primary set encompasses almost entire real-world surface colors with a very good efficiency.

  • This paper examine the changing ecosystems in Malaysia, starting with the government policy driven greenfield cluster of Cyberjaya, which is part of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) mega project. In this context of an emerging economy, predominantly production oriented, the role of the government was crucial with respect to implementing policies and building infrastructure for the ecosystems. First, the roles played by the cluster development agency, universities, and industry are explained. As the cluster developed, this paper, taking an entrepreneurial ecosystem approach, explores how some actors evolved and changed their roles to become catalyst organisations established for the cluster now serving nationwide. This was followed by the emergence of new actors in the ecosystems, for example, knowledge intermediaries, and new roles for universities. In addition to actors such as universities and industry, this paper recognizes the emergence of media organisations as new actors in the entrepreneurial ecosystems in Malaysia.

  • This paper is purposed to clarify that an increase of the matter of concern about men's fashion in the mid-1980s was coincided with rapid change of images for men and diversification within the context of economy, society, culture and to analyze the characteristic of each fashion and the meaning. Findings are as follows: 'New men' played a key role creating and communicating the new male image through the media, as a new masculine appeared in the middle of 1980s. Especially it was spreaded into with British as a center between the generations of young men described as a white-collar worker about the ages from 18 to 35 specifically and appeared by the cultural background in accordance with the spread of consumerism, materialism and post modern feminism and the development of men's fashion. There were 2 types of fashion styles for 'New men' image on the media in the mid-1980s. The First is 'power suit look style' which is self-conscious, including 'corporate formal suit look' and 'soft & sexy suit look'. The Second is 'extravagant body conscious style' which characterize the decolletage and androgynous, including 'tough sports look' and 'sexy skirt look'. Lastly, the 'New men' image means a man as a visible object and a man in the image world.

  • As the contemporary times entered, the attention focused on the 'human's perception on a space' as much as on that a space's physical structure, so the meaning of a space became defined depending on how a person thought over and behaved in the space. As this age is the times of consilience and integration, a space accepts new technologies beyond being defined simply based on the space's structure and its shape and tries to provide different, 'strange experiences' from tho se felt by the human until now. Recently in the filed of space design, it can be seen that the spae design's connection with various technologies affects on considerable influence on the all fields of culture and arts like space marketings, media arts, exhibitions and performances as well as the buildings. Especially. the fusion of digital images and architecture is actively developed. Images possessing the moving light's attributes shine a city night and day and a building changes a city's appearance itself by adding new materials on the surface of building. It is the purpose of this study to study what new experiences the human gets and creates from his interaction with spaces based on such technological fusion. By studying some cases that used the digital media as a mediating instrument as the way presenting spatial experiences to the human, this study intended to identify what design factors were applied and to find appropriate directions for space desig in relation to what new trials can be done.

  • In this paper, we apply a chord progression learning model to a rule-based generation of a four-part chorus. The proposed system is given a 32-note melody line and completes the four-part chorus based on the rule of harmonics, predicting the chord progression with the CRBM model. The data for the training model was collected from various harmony textbooks, and chord progressions were extracted with key-independent features so as to utilize the given data effectively. It was shown that the output piece obtained with the proposed learning model had a more natural progression than the piece that used only the rule-based approach.

  • Random linear network coding (RLNC) is widely employed to enhance the reliability of wireless multicast. In RLNC encoding/decoding, Galois Filed (GF) arithmetic is typically used since all the operations can be performed with symbols of finite bits. Considering the architecture of commercial computers, the complexity of arithmetic operations is constant regardless of the dimension of GF m, if m is smaller than 32 and pre-calculated tables are used for multiplication/division. Based on this, we show that the complexity of RLNC inversely proportional to m. Considering additional overheads, i.e., the increase of header length and memory usage, we determine the practical value of m. We implement RLNC in a commercial computer and evaluate the codec throughput with respect to the type of the tables for multiplication/division and the number of original packets to encode with each other.
