  • In modern society, designers started feeling moral and social responsibility in the aspect of environment as a position of suggesting something new. Rather than creating another waste to make something innovative, the concept of Upcycling which is about adding design or utilization to the existing recyclable materials to raise their value to products or art works has started settling down. Among them, there have been various researches on the use of offcut waste to be dumped. Such use of waste can be found in Jogakbo (patchwork), one of our traditional boudoir crafts. This could be connected to the concept of the modern Upcycling in the aspect of giving new values to the wasted pieces of fabric through needlework. Therefore, this study suggested Stitch work as new Upcycling furniture by seeking for the common connections between Upcycling and traditional Jogakbo, and then reinterpreting them in the same viewpoint. It was an opportunity not only to rediscover 'the esthetics of waste' by changing the awareness of 'behavior of dumping', but also to reinterpret or reconsider the tradition. Based on this, it is expected to continuously have new attempts to use offcut waste for eco-friendly design in the future, and also to have opportunities to seek for new directions of Upcycling to rediscover new values through the revaluation of valuelessness.

Historically monumentality has been considered as a main substance of High architecture in e tradition of Western Architecture. Difference between building and architecture mainly lies in monumentality which brings about esthetic quality. Usually architects take it granted that the physical and formal characteristics automatically cause the monumentality, But since the modem period the decline of communicative and representative function of architecture made this belief questionable. Loos and A Riegl We also analyse the change of role which monumental building played in history. Cultural and social change of context, and fundamental change of architecture old way of building a monument impossible. In conclusion this study proposes the new concept and searches new horizon of monumentality with a finding of the otherness of monumentality. Conventional monumental building language has to give way to new approaches. With some examples we already can find a new possibility.

  • The Chungdo-type Pottery Culture, distributed through the middle part of the Korean peninsula, is chronologically located in the very former stage of the advent of ancient states. It has two different traditions of pottery manufacturing technique which are totally different in choosing raw materials, shaping, fixing and firing. It seems that two different traditions had been selectively applied by pottery type. In order to understand this peculiar cultural aspect, the pottery typology needs to be different from those applied to cultures where pottery was made and used under the single manufacturing tradition. This study tries to find the new pottery typology which best fits for the understanding the chronology of the Chungdo-Type Pottery Culture. For this purpose, I examined existing typologies, recognized their problems, and then build a new typology. As a result, I found that the former typologies misinterpreted the relative frequencies of each pottery type as different function or region. In this article, I propose the new pottery typology as building a primary classification within each function and region, and then synthesizing all of primary classifications. This new typology eliminates the factors of function and region in understanding the chronology of the Chungdo-Type Pottery Culture, and assorts the regional distinction by comparing pottery types in each region.

The advent of the personal computer changed this tradition. Every year new challenges arise in a digital format, which lead the young and adults to spend hours in front of a computer or TV screen in an attempt to overcome hurdles and reach an objective. Quality, sophistication, and constant innovation are attained through complex computer software that almost has an obligation to improve as each new title is released, due to this game development becomes a challenge. Considering that a game title is software and thus faces the same restrictions of business applications, this article intends to analyze, under the optics of reuse, if game development resorts to reuse, and where and how this happens.

In the results, it was confirmed that the coner high column method is economic and structurally safe, and selectively combines the structural factors used in the Chinese seats. It was found that this method was a newly adopted construction method to effectively express the authority of the country with the establishment of a new dynasty. Also the meaning of the method could be guessed since it was continuously used in important structures from the Choseon Dynasty to the Daehan Empire, in spite of the new multi-roof building technologies.
