  • Modern businesses are adopting new technologies to serve their markets better as well as to improve efficiency and productivity. The advertising industry has continuously experienced disruptions from the traditional channels (radio, television and print media) to new complex ones including internet, social media and mobile-based advertising. This case study focuses on proposing intelligent advertising business model in Seoul's metro network. Seoul has one of the world's busiest metro network and transports a huge number of travelers on a daily basis. The high number of travelers coupled with a well-planned metro network creates a platform where marketers can initiate engagement and interact with both customers and potential customers. In the current advertising model, advertising is on illuminated and framed posters in the stations and in-car, non-illuminated posters, and digital screens that show scheduled arrivals and departures of metros. Some stations have digital screens that show adverts but they do not have location capability. Most of the current advertising media have one key limitation: space. For posters whether illuminated or not, one space can host only one advert at a time. Empirical literatures show that there is room for improving this advertising model and eliminate the space limitation by replacing the poster adverts with digital advertising platform. This new model will not only be digital, but will also provide intelligent advertising platform that is driven by data. The digital platform will incorporate location sensing, e-commerce, and mobile platform to create new value to all stakeholders. Travel cards used in the metro will be registered and the card scanners will have a capability to capture traveler's data when travelers tap their cards. This data once analyzed will make it possible to identify different customer groups. Advertisers and marketers will then be able to target specific customer groups, customize adverts based on the targeted consumer group, and offer a wide variety of advertising formats. Format includes video, cinemagraphs, moving pictures, and animation. Different advert formats create different emotions in the customer's mind and the goal should be to use format or combination of formats that arouse the expected emotion and lead to an engagement. Combination of different formats will be more effective and this can only work in a digital platform. Adverts will be location based, ensuring that adverts will show more frequently when the metro is near the premises of an advertiser. The advertising platform will automatically detect the next station and screens inside the metro will prioritize adverts in the station where the metro will be stopping. In the mobile platform, customers who opt to receive notifications will receive them when they approach the business premises of advertiser. The mobile platform will have indoor navigation for the underground shopping malls that will allow customers to search for facilities within the mall, products they may want to buy as well as deals going on in the underground mall. To create an end-to-end solution, the mobile solution will have a capability to allow customers purchase products through their phones, get coupons for deals, and review products and shops where they have bought a product. The indoor navigation will host intelligent mobile-based advertisement and a recommendation system. The indoor navigation will have adverts such that when a customer is searching for information, the recommendation system shows adverts that are near the place traveler is searching or in the direction that the traveler is moving. These adverts will be linked to the e-commerce platform such that if a customer clicks on an advert, it leads them to the product description page. The whole system will have multi-language as well as text-to-speech capability such that both locals and tourists have no language barrier. The implications of implementing this model are varied including support for small and medium businesses operating in the underground malls, improved customer experience, new job opportunities, additional revenue to business model operator, and flexibility in advertising. The new value created will benefit all the stakeholders.

  • The digital multi-sided platform has led the growth of industries. Accelerating this growth, generativity allowed innovation based on boundary-less modularity. Online games are a rich source of research but most of the research is dedicated in examining only the online game itself. However, there is a growing need to understand online games in an ecosystem level for a new phase of evolution is starting based on generativity. With generativity, online game users now make new graphics and quest that can be added and shared to the already existing game environment. The ecosystem is moving towards finding an amicable multi-sided distribution platform for these user generated game contents. Preliminary data suggest the possibility of actual connection between generativity and users' game engagement. Interviews and surveys will be prepared to find out the details of the possible relationship and how the ecosystem will shape accordingly.

  • A component is a reusable and replaceable software module accessed through its interface. Component-based development is expected to shorten the development period, reduce maintenance costs, and improve program reusability and the interoperability of components. This paper proposes a new robot software component platform in order to support the entire process of robot software development. It consists of specifications of a component model, component authoring tool, component composer, and component execution engine. To show its feasibility, this paper presents the analysis results of the component's communication overhead, a comparison with other robotic software platforms, and applications in commercial robots.

  • The changes in the game platform is appeared since the advent of smart-phones. Apple's iOS or Google's Android platform is gradually expanding their territories in the mobile game area. Android's platform fragmentation and the absence of game development framework act as barriers for game developments. In the development of game applications on the smart-phone, the standardized development procedures under game framework can achieve the productivity improvement. In this paper, we propose a new design pattern suitable for the design of a framework for new areas of application through the expansion of existing framework. The design and implementation of the Android game development framework is presented by taking advantage of existing design patterns and a proposed pattern. Also we propose the standardized development procedure of game applications under the proposed framework.

  • In this paper, we propose the building method for the unified IoT service platform between the variety of legacy systems with the heterogeneous structures and the operating environments. To accommodate the structural diversity of legacy systems, we develop a virtual integrated structure and interface abstracting method. By this, the new platform can use the data sources of the legacy systems as if the data source is in the new platform. In a manner without modification of the legacy systems with performing minimum tasks, we proposes a model that can be integrated without affecting the availabilities of the legacy systems.

  • In the era of home automation, we need more context-aware and intelligent service applications than before. For these applications, a service gateway as a platform is required to bridge the gap between external data networks to internal home networks. Also, the sonics gateway enables customers to receive new classes of home services. The OSGi service platform is a good solution for the service gateway since it can deliver new applications dynamically from a broader network. In the near future, every home will be equipped with a residential gateway powered by the OSGi, and will demand value-added service applications, such as home security monitoring and safety alerts. • Based on classical viscoelastic damper, a brand-new damper is designed by the change of simple construction to implement vibration control for both translational vibration and rotational vibration simultaneously. Theoretic analysis has been carried out on the restoring force model and the control parameters. Two improved models are presented to obtain high simulation precision. The influence of the size, shape of the viscoelastic material, the ambient temperature and the response frequency on the vibration control effect is analyzed. The numerical results show that the new type viscoelastic damper is capable of mitigating the multi-dimensional seismic response of offshore platform and the response control effect has complicated relations with aforementioned related factors.

  • The wide spread of smartphones and the growth of the number of internet users are reshaping the SNS (Social Network Service). Merging into other service areas and creating new business models with high profits, SNS is no more a service simply providing personal connections. Now SNS has positioned itself as a service platform. SNG (Social Network Game) is a new outcome utilizing SNS as a game platform and showing a rapid growth rate in a short period of time. The number of SNG users is expected to increase steadily. In this study, we examine whether SNG user motivations lead to flow experience and future intention to use. For that purpose, we conducted a survey with smartphone users. The results indicate that flow experience functions as a mediator and user motivations indirectly affect intention to use through flow experience. This paper concludes with discussions on findings and suggestions for future research.

  • Recently, active research has been conducted on the metaverse as a new education platform. However, only a few studies analyze the specific characteristics of this platform from potential users' perspectives. Therefore, based on literature reviews and expert surveys on education, this study specifies the attributes and levels to be considered in developing metaverse education platforms. An online survey was conducted among university students in South Korea, and conjoint analysis was performed to propose the conditions for education platforms optimized for university education. The results revealed that 85% of respondents were willing to use metaverse education platforms, and preferred virtual classrooms that enable indirect experience in a web-based personal computer environment. In particular, the respondents showed a high preference for the education platforms that were available at $5 per month and used newly created three-dimensional avatar characters of themselves. This study is significant since its results have strategic implications for expanding the metaverse's use as a new educational space.
