  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the materials for developing the new house style by analysing the space characteristics of wood frame houses in suburbs of Seoul. For this, we analysed 45 drawings(site plan, floor plan, elevation, section) that were designed by MICHOO, WOOD-LAND, STUGA and CHOWONJUTECK company etc. The space design characteristics that we found are as follows; 1. The wood is fragile to humidity. Therefore this characteristic is especially considered in designing the space of bathroom and utility room. 2. It is the merit of wood frame house that inner space can be designed variously by using spilt-level and the slope of roof. 3.The public space and private space are completely separated in most cases and the stair is located in the middle of house. This structure of house is short of horizontal openness. Instead, most houses gets vertical openness by making second floor on the living room opev. 4. In wood frame house as the rural house, the outer space is well used by setting up deck and balcony. The outer spaces like deck and balcony are usually used as a part of life space in connected with living room, dining room, master bed room and family room. 5. The public spaces like kitchen, living room, dining room and family room are considered so important in design that those are arranged in front in order to have good outlook and directiov.

  • Recently the population to enjoy leisure time has increased, due to the advancement of income level and increase of spare time. In the meantime, the growing attention to well-being life has shed light on Han-ok or traditional Korean house. Such a social background as former, the growing number of people prefer staying at Han-ok style accommodation when they are enjoying leisure time. However there has been little substantial study or survey on architectural standards of Han-ok style accommodation because it is a new type of accommodation facility. Therefore this study aims to suggest a set of basic standards on architectural planning for Han-ok style accommodations. For this purpose, it investigated architectural planning on Han-ok style accommodations in Jeollanamdo province through on-site survey and interview to classify them based upon size and scale of the facility, layout of buildings and interior spaces in terms of function, elevation and materials and to find basic standards on architectural planning of Han-ok style accommodations.

  • In the beginning of the 1930's. Le Corbusier's new attention turned toward the local conditions of construction, which can be associated with the prevailing sprit of regionalism and vernaculaire culture. What especially concerns us here is the reference that Le Corbusier makes to vernacular architecture, which we have seen to be the soure of his late houses. During the 1950's, with the United' habitation and the Jaoul houses, Le Corbusier ushered in a new housing trend onto the scene. noteworthy for its use of raw materials and for its opposition to the international style.

We tried to develop a head family food and propose a city sightseeing style's head family product by interviews with 'Hakindang' as the center, the head house of the Suwon Baek clan, and Injaegong group in Jeonjoo. Hakindang (in Jeonju) was confirmed as an improved model Korean-style house in the enlightenment period and the twentieth style modern head family as emerging capitalist. Hakindangsupported independence war funds in the Japanese colonial era and was widely known as gate of filial piety in Jeonju. Representative seasonal foods of Hakindang include pan-fried sweet rice cake with flower petals in the spring, hot spicy meat stew and polypus variabilis in summer, hanchae in autumn, and napa cabbage kimchi with salted flatfish seafood in the winter. When parents-in-law had a birthday, there were party noodles, sliced abalone stuffed with pine nuts, brass chafing dish, fish eggs, slices of blilde meat, and matnaji. Daily, there were mainly salted seafood, slices of raw fish, grilled short rib patties, braised fish, baked fish, syruped chestnut, grilled deodeok root, bean sprouts, radish preserved with salt, dongchimi, soy sauce-marinated horseshoe crab, butterbur, perilla seed stew, salted clams, raw bamboo shoot, agar, fried kelp, etc. The most basic virtue of the head family is filial duty, and they developed mosim dining as a representative food of Hakingdang's head family. • Architectural style is said to be product reflecting political, social and cultural condition. Especially, in colony, architectural style is strongly related to political condition or policy. After colonization in 1910, public buildings with western historical architectural style in Japanese version were widely built by Japanese colonial government in Korea. And in the late 1920s, modernism style in architecture became dominant in Korea as like other countries. In this situation, curious buildings in strange architectural styles came out. One example is railroad station buildings with traditional Korean architectural style and timber house station having a steep roof which is widely used in North Europe such as Alps area with good sights and mountains. Generally, the colonizer says that colonization is the only way to save the colony at crisis defined by colonizer and they insist that they can help the colony modernize. To justify colonization, the colonizer attributes the colonization to the characteristics of the nation and stagnation of the traditional culture etc.. Accordingly, the colonizer tries to depreciate colony's traditional value and culture. In case of colony which has similar cultural background historically (in this case, economical exploitation is less important than other Asian colony by European power), this depreciation of traditional value and culture in Korea was done more strongly than others. At this time, we should understand special relation between Korea and Japan historically. Even though, colony's locality is adopted by the colonizer in public fields, which is based on political purpose or exotic taste etc.. In early days of Japanese ruling period, Japan never use the Korean traditional facts in public. Therefore there is no use of Korean traditional architectural style in public field. In late 1920s, some railroad station buildings were constructed in new styles without precedence in modern Korea. One is railroad station buildings in Korean traditional architectural style, the other is railroad station buildings in timber house stations having a steep roof which is different form western historical architectural style. It was mystery that Japan had constructed railroad stations in Korean traditional style which Japan had tried to destroy together with Western style railroad station buildings. This paper is made to solve the mystery why the colonizer(Japan) constructed entirely different types of railroad stations at the same time in the late 1920s and 1930s. The key point to solve this mystery is tourism. In this paper, to solve this mystery, I try to use terminology' 'Colonial Tourism' in architecture why colonial power had constructed railroad stations with colony's traditional architectural style and Western style having a steep roof which can be seen north European region.

  • The frame of pipe greenhouses in Korea have been collapsed increasingly due to very weak in structure caused by the heavy snow and strong wind. In order to reduce the collapse of green houses, it is urgent to develop the new structural system in stress tolerant greenhouses. Therefore, this paper performed the structural analysis of greenhouse frame in accordance with snow loads and wind loads. Three type models in structural frame configuration of greenhouses, that is, existing type, diagrid type, and honeycomb type are selected. It was classfied the section shape of structural frames in greenhouses into arch style, standard style, and diagonal standard style. As a result of this paper, it was verified that the structural system of diagrid type is better than that of existing type against snow loads and wind loads in the frame of greenhouses.
