The study has effected checking the traditional Korean-style house condition in Farm village and the resident preference test in jeonnam area for examination propriety of development a traditional Korean-style house. Also, it was checked over the problem and improvement direction of new building the Korean style house. The resident wanted living in the traditional Korean-style house if it is compromised problem of living equipment and cost of building. First. Jeonnam area Korean style house must keep the 'ㅡ' type plan. Second, the plan must construct compact and effective plan with the main floored room as the center for prevention against an indiscreet plan space extend of outside. Third, it has must need suitable material and construction for applying traditional exterior with effect. Fourth, it has must need actualization plan for the cost of construction is 3,500,000/py for construction.

Process 1 suggests the background, purpose and necessity to provide with criteria for establishing Korean-style house preservation area including the present situation of the established area in our country. Also it is provided with the approach and the substantial realm to discuss the established criteria for the subject of this thesis. Process 2 dealt with theoretical parts as a premise to suggest the established criteria for the Korean- style house preservation area : 1) Original background of the Korean- style house, characteristic of the Korean traditional housing, changed situation of the Korean- style house based on the epoch, classified into the characteristic of the Korean- style house. 2) The characteristic of the Korean- style house and its values existed in the present urban areas are investigated by synthesizing such contents. 3) The significance for establishing the preservation area of the Korean- style houses in urban areas which is insufficient systematically in suggested as follows : First, establishment of the preservation area of the Korean- style houses with regard to the traditional succession of cultural properties. Second, acknowledging preservation problems of cultural properties in our country due to the world- wide tendency, preservation of historical environment of new comprehensive concept for the preservation of cultural properties. Process 3, as a case study on the establishment of the preservation area, describes a framework for investigating and analyzing the status by reviewing the present situation of the Korean- style preservation area in Seoul city which is established as the preservation area. Process 4 suggests seven criteria with regard to the establishment of the preservation area. 1) A decisive criterion for the Korean- style house to divide into Korean- style house and non- Korean style house (proper building and nonproper building) for the preservation. 2) A concrete decisive criterion for the Korean- style house with regard to valuable endowment with dominent factors in its landscape. 3) A decisive criterion for the review of the landscape preservation for the nonproper building. 4) Suggesting logical evidences for the above second and third criterion (suggesting appropriateness). 5) Dividing into following two criteria for the decision of the building condition. a) A decisive criterion of the Korean- style house's condition. b) A decisive criterion of non- Korean style house's condition. 6) A selective criterion for the preservation building after synthesizing above five criteria. 7) Final criterion for establishing the preservation area with regard to systematic particulars.
The goal of this study is to identify the new Architectural type of house and Landscape design pattern of the collective housing area in American garden city, Midlothian near Richmond of Virginia. I had been surveyed old houses of the Virginia and new single family houses and landscape design style of Mariners village to find a different style of houses and lots. The Richmond, capital city of Virginia, is surrounded by five suburban areas and counties. One of them is the Chesterfield where it has main street of Midlothian garden city. The city of Midlothian has a function of residence area both to stay in the forest garden and to go to downtown office of Richmond. There are a lot of collective housing area out of the capital city. I surveyed house form, lots, and site design pattern of the Mariners village in Midlothian. The community of Mariners shows a particular characteristics and harmonious pattern of suburban residence area in a view point of new project. There are three results of this study as follows: First, the types of house in suburban garden city, Midlothian, are focused on vernacular Colonial style with country house, traditional house, and front gable house form which are an unique new American single home. Second, the landscape design of this collective housing area, the Mariners village, has a unity view of residence community, harmony between house and lots, and a sensitive cul-de-sac pattern and loops type with rational land using based on the forest topology. Third, the Mariners village shows that the design concept of landscape architecture has to consider of traditionalism, naturalism, and living condition of residents.
Prairie style houses in first stages of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture activity pay a leading role in the process of house modernization as reflecting social and economic circumstances of the time based on traditional house style of the States. Wright's first work after retiring from L. Sullivan's office, Winslow house in 1983 is pioneering work predicting prairie house. This is because this house has only one modern architecture language of Wright and follow no style prevailing of the time. So, a researcher analyse Winslow house within the framework of functional thinking and new formative value creation in the modernization process of western house. Through this, The goal of this study is to find out modern characteristics and the meaning of Winslow house in modernization process prior to the 1900s. Firstly, the followings are modern characteristics of Winslow house. First, Winslow house has original planning breaking from custom based on modern functional and reasonable thoughts, and has practical space reflecting resident's inner demand. Second, Winslow house has modern new plastic value through original exterior breaking from custom and integrated shape of inner-outer space and structure. Secondly, the followings are the meaning of Winslow house in modernization process prior to the 1900s. First, Wright intend to suggest directions of residence modernization through Winslow house before designing Prairie style houses in earnest. Second, mixing of modern vocabulary and eclecticism show a sign of residence modernization process on the time. Third, inner-outer flowing space, opening space concept of Winslow house has innovative meanings predicting spacial characteristics of modern architecture.
The purpose of this study is the analyze the spatial structure and housing component of the prairie style house of Frank Lloyd Wright during the Prairie Era which is between 1893-1910. The research results can be summarized as follows 1) In spite of European style influences which were fashionable at the time, Wright tried to attempt altering the space and form of his works (houses) from his unique architectural style. 2) All solid walls which are usually inside the square prairie and the cross floor plans were removed for interaction between the outside and inside spaces in a house creating an organic space. So the inside space of the house feels wider than the original space because of the available natural light. 3) Frank Lloyd Wright's early works were similar to the homes built at that time. However, as time passed, he remembered and was influenced by the Frobel's educational system blocks he played with as a child as well as the surrounding Midwestern USA prairies where he grew up. 4) The early prairie floor plan was square divided into nine equal parts which is classic floor planning. Wright, however, created his new unique architectural style. His style has developed into the prairie style and various floor plans. 5) Wright introduced a 3-dimensional architectural form of composition (cantilever, long eaves, etc.) to express symmetry and horizontal lines of the house. 6) Rather than emphasizing vertical lines in his works, Wright began emphasizing more horizontal lines like the horizontal lines of the actual prairies. This meant the surrounding environment of a house is always in nature.
This Study is to analize the transfiguration of the domestic architecture in the process of modernization. Thirty two houses which were located in Taegu province and constructed during the period from 1886 to 1945, were surveyed and analized about the characteristic and their transfiguration. The modern domestic architecture of Taegu province had been constructed greatly by the missonaries and Japanes. The history of development of modern houses in Teagu province can be devided into three period in accordance with the economic policy, housing style and the method of construction. The first period (1886-1910) was the beginning of the modern house. Most of the mission houses of that period were made with brick structure of korean-western style or colonial style. In the second period (1911-1926), colonial, Japanese-western, Japanese housing style were co-exited in Teagu province. During the third period (1927-1945) new method of construction using reinforced concrete and mortar was introduced, therefore the houses become row house (a two or three-family house) and much simpler.
This stydy investigates H-shaped houses in 1930s and examines the characters and meanigs of Kim, Jong-Ryang's H-shaped houses as a new trial to urban Hanok of those days. He, who was concerned about the housing problem of Seoul, made an attempt to make various types of dwellings. Among them, this study focuses on Japanese-Korean Style H-shaped houses in Samcheong-dong. As the alternative housing type against other urban Hanok of Seoul in 1930s, the H-shaped houses of Kim, Jong Ryang had characters as follows : 1) H-shaped houses has two special characters. First, the whole space of a single house can be divided into a left region and a right region. Second, it can be divided to a front region and a rear region. In his H-shaped houses, the left/right division was expressed as folding of space-layers in parallel with urban streets. The front/rear division was used as classification of main-living space and sub-living space. 2) KJR's H-shaped Japanese-Korean Style houses were proved to be designed as urban housing against the extreme housing shortage of Seoul in 1930s. 3) His houses however were not accepted broadly as a urban house type because the construction cost of those was higher than an average and the element of Japanese style house was not adapted to Korea. Kim, Jong-Ryang's trial is valuable because it was the rare case of realization of many discourses as defects of existing house type. With more rigorous investigations on KJR's experiment in modern house type, we could understand the housing condition of Seoul in 1930s and modern urban houses more than before.

In addition, a virtual model house can offer new kinds of information that a physical model home can not. This study's purpose is to discuss the desired direction of the virtual model house in this crucial and dynamic period of development.
The purpose of this study is to advance apartment houses in quality as a residence through revitalization of tradition and the procedures are as follows: The first procedure is theoretical contemplation. The second procedure is analysis of the traditional residential space that gives a starting point of introspection of it without cease at the stage of formal following or pattern application in revitalizing tradition in the apartment houses. And the third procedure is to select and suggest aspects applicable to developing Korean style apartment houses. The suggest is embodied by a plane figure of 55 pyong type apartment house after selecting the concrete development aspects with approaches such as arrangement and interior space analysis, behavior analysis and space division and design analysis. This study has its meaning in that it suggests a possibility of various approaches other than formal following or pattern application in revitalizing tradition in a new Korean type apartment house, that it gives another selection to diversifying consumers' patterns and that it helps recognize and develop our tradition in this age of cultural nationalism.
This study is a theoretical approach by literature about life style and housing life style. The purpose of this research is making an analysis model of housing life style which can be used as a conceptual framework in empirical study. the theme of‘Life style’was studied mainly in the area of consumerism and housing. Model was made to explore the sub-domain of new analysis model by the microsociological approach. As results, 1) Independent variable of housing life style research model must be selected to be possible of comparison in effect of objective and subjective variable and in effect of predictive function and well-being function of housing life style. 2) Sub-domain of housing life style must be consisted of value orientation of family life, consumption in house, consumer durables, furniture., and propensity to using space. 3) Conceptual model of housing life style must be tested in empirical study to know what is the housing adjustment behavior of individual family, to improve quality of housing life and to suggest housing policy for family as a consumer.
