The purpose of this study was to develop landslide susceptibility analysis techniques using artificial neural networks and then to apply these to the selected study area of Janghung in Korea. We aimed to verify the effect of data selection on training sites. Landslide locations were identified from interpretation of satellite images and field survey data, and a spatial database of the topography, soil, forest, and land use was constructed. Thirteen landslide-related factors were extracted from the spatial database. Using these factors, landslide susceptibility was analyzed using an artificial neural network. The weights of each factor were determined by the back-propagation training method. Five different training datasets were applied to analyze and verify the effect of training. Then, the landslide susceptibility indices were calculated using the trained back-propagation weights and susceptibility maps were constructed from Geographic Information System (GIS) data for the five cases. The results of the landslide susceptibility maps were verified and compared using landslide location data. GIS data were used to efficiently analyze the large volume of data, and the artificial neural network proved to be an effective tool to analyze landslide susceptibility.
Purpose The purpose of this study is to enhance the accuracy score of personal credit scoring using the convolutional neural networks and secure the transparency of the deep learning model using eXplainalbe Artifical Inteligence(XAI) technique. Design/methodology/approach This study built a classification model by using the convolutional neural networks(CNN) and applied a methodology that is transformation of numerical data to imaged data to apply CNN on personal credit data. Then layer-wise relevance propagation(LRP) was applied to model we constructed to find what variables are more influenced to the output value. Findings According to the empirical analysis result, this study confirmed that accuracy score by model using CNN is highest among other models using logistic regression, neural networks, and support vector machines. In addition, With the LRP that is one of the technique of XAI, variables that have a great influence on calculating the output value for each observation could be found.

In this study, the performance of a real-time micro telescopic monitoring system is evaluated, in which an artificial neural network is adopted for the diagnoses of vibratory bodies, such as solid piping system or machinery. The structural vibration was measured by a non-contact remote sensing method, in which images of a high-speed high-definition camera were used. The structural vibration data that can be obtained by the PIV (particle image velocimetry) technique were used for training the neural network. The structures of the neural network are dynamically changed and their performances are evaluated for the constructed diagnosis system. Optimized structures of the neural network are proposed for real-time diagnosis for the piping system. It was experimentally verified that the performances of the neural network used for real-time monitoring are influenced by the types of the vibration data, such as minimum, maximum and average values of the vibration data. It concludes that the time-mean values are most appropriate for monitoring the piping system.
Deep neural network that effectively capture the characteristics of data has been widely used in various applications. However, the amount of sound database is often insufficient for learning the deep neural network properly, so resulting in overfitting problems. In this paper, we propose a transfer learning framework that can effectively train the deep neural network even with insufficient sound event data by employing rich speech or music data. A series of experimental results verify that proposed method performs significantly better than the baseline deep neural network that was trained only with small sound event data.

To improve the anomaly IDS using system calls, this study focuses on Neural Networks Learning using the Soundex algorithm which is designed to change feature selection and variable length data into a fixed length learning pattern. That is, by changing variable length sequential system call data into a fixed length behavior pattern using the Soundex algorithm, this study conducted neural networks learning by using a backpropagation algorithm with fuzzy membership function. The back-propagation neural networks and Neuro-Fuzzy technique are applied for anomaly intrusion detection of system calls using Sendmail Data of UNM to demonstrate its aspect of he complexity of time, space and MDL performance.

Task offloading in vehicular networks is hot topic in the development of autonomous driving. In these scenarios, due to the role of vehicles and pedestrians, task characteristics are changing constantly. The classical deep learning algorithm always uses a pre-trained neural network to optimize task offloading, which leads to system performance degradation. Therefore, this paper proposes a neural network fine-tuning task offloading algorithm, combining with location prediction for pedestrians and vehicles by the Payne model of fluid dynamics and the car-following model, respectively. After the locations are predicted, characteristics of tasks can be obtained and the neural network will be fine-tuned. Finally, the proposed algorithm continuously predicts task characteristics and fine-tunes a neural network to maintain high system performance and meet low delay requirements. From the simulation results, compared with other algorithms, the proposed algorithm still guarantees a lower task offloading delay, especially when congestion occurs.
The purpose of this research is to apply the neural networks models for the hydrologic disaggregation of the yearly pan evaporation(PE) data in Republic of Korea. The neural networks models consist of multilayer perceptron neural networks model(MLP-NNM) and support vector machine neural networks model(SVM-NNM), respectively. And, for the evaluation of the neural networks models, they are composed of training and test performances, respectively. The three types of data such as the historic, the generated, and the mixed data are used for the training performance. The only historic data, however, is used for the testing performance. The application of MLP-NNM and SVM-NNM for the hydrologic disaggregation of nonlinear time series data is evaluated from results of this research. Four kinds of the statistical index for the evaluation are suggested; CC, RMSE, E, and AARE, respectively. Homogeneity test using ANOVA and Mann-Whitney U test, furthermore, is carried out for the observed and calculated monthly PE data. We can construct the credible monthly PE data from the hydrologic disaggregation of the yearly PE data, and the available data for the evaluation of irrigation and drainage networks system can be suggested.

This paper is to evaluate the applicability of neural networks to the estimation of evapotranspiration. Two neural networks were developed to forecast daily evapotranspiration of the rice crop with back-propagation and counter-propagation algorithm. The neural network trained by back-propagation algorithm with delta learning rule is a three-layer network with input, hidden, and output layers. The other network with counter-propagation algorithm is a four-layer network with input, normalizing, competitive, and output layers. Training neural networks was conducted using daily actual evapotranspiration of rice crop and daily climatic data such as mean temperature, sunshine hours, solar radiation, relative humidity, and pan evaporation. During the training, neural network parameters were calibrated. The trained networks were applied to a set of field data not used in the training. The created response of the back-propagation network was in good agreement with desired values and showed better performances than the counter-propagation network did. Evaluating the neural network performance indicates that the back-propagation neural network may be applied to the estimation of evapotranspiration of the rice crop. This study does not provide with a conclusive statement as to the ability of a neural network to evapotranspiration estimating. More detailed study is required for better understanding and evaluating the behavior of neural networks.

This study suggests the hybrid models for interest rate forecasting using structural changes (or change points). The basic concept of this proposed model is to obtain significant intervals caused by change points, to identify them as the change-point groups, and to reflect them in interest rate forecasting. The model is composed of three phases. The first phase is to detect successive structural changes in the U. S. Treasury bill rate dataset. The second phase is to forecast the change-point groups with data mining classifiers. The final phase is to forecast interest rates with backpropagation neural networks (BPN). Based on this structure, we propose three hybrid models in terms of data mining classifier: (1) multivariate discriminant analysis (MDA)-supported model, (2) case-based reasoning (CBR)-supported model, and (3) BPN-supported model. Subsequently, we compare these models with a neural network model alone and, in addition, determine which of three classifiers (MDA, CBR and BPN) can perform better. For interest rate forecasting, this study then examines the prediction ability of hybrid models to reflect the structural change.

An artificial neural network model was developed to analyze and forecast Short-term river runoff from the Naju watershed, in Korea. Error back propagation neural networks (EBPN) of hourly rainfall and runoff data were found to have a high performance In forecasting runoff. The number of hidden nodes were optimized using total error and Bayesian information criterion. Model forecasts are very accurate (i.e., relative error is less than 3% and $R^2$is greater than 0.99) for calibration and verification data sets. Increasing the time horizon for application data sets, thus mating the model suitable for flood forecasting. decreases the accuracy of the model. The resulting optimal EBPN models for forecasting hourly runoff consists of ten rainfall and four runoff data(ANN0410 model) and ten rainfall and ten runoff data(ANN1010 model). Performances of the ANN0410 and ANN1010 models remain satisfactory up to 6 hours (i.e., $R^2$is greater than 0.92).
