Multi-Channel MAC Protocol Based on V2I/V2V Collaboration in VANET (VANET에서 V2I/V2V 협력 기반 멀티채널 MAC 프로토콜)

  • VANET technologies provide real-time traffic information for mitigating traffic jam and preventing traffic accidents, as well as in-vehicle infotainment service through Telematics/Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). Due to the rapid increasement of various requirements, the vehicle communication with a limited resource and the fixed frame architecture of the conventional techniques is limited to provide an efficient communication service. Therefore, a new flexible operation depending on the surrounding situation information is required that needs an adaptive design of the network architecture and protocol for efficiently predicting, distributing and sharing the context-aware information. In this paper, Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) based on communication between vehicle and a Road Side Units (RSU) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) based on communication between vehicles are effectively combined in a new MAC architecture and V2I and V2V vehicles collaborate in management. As a result, many vehicles and RSU can use more efficiently the resource and send data rapidly. The simulation results show that the proposed method can achieve high resource utilization in accordance. Also we can find out the optimal transmission relay time and 2nd relay vehicle selection probability value to spread out V2V/V2I collaborative schedule message rapidly.

IEEE 802.11-based Power-aware Location Tracking System (저전력을 고려한 IEEE 802.11 기반 위치 추적 시스템)

  • Location tracking system through GPS and Wi-Fi is available at no additional cost in an environment of IEEE 802.11-based wireless network. It is useful for many applications in outdoor environment. However, a previous systems used for general device to tag. It is unsuitable for power aware location tracking system because general devices is more expensive and non-optimized for tracking. The hand-off method of IEEE 802.11 standard is not enough considering power consumption. This thesis analyzes the previous location tracking systems and proposes power aware system. First, we designed and implemented tag to optimize location tracking. Next, we propose low-power hand-off method and low-power behavior model in implemented tag. The proposed hand-off method resolve power problem by using the location information and behavior model minimize power consumption of tag through power-saving mode and the concept of duty cycle. To evaluating proposed methods and system performance, we perform simulations and experiments in real environment. And then, we calculate tag's power consumption based on the actual measured current consumption of each operation. In a simulation result, the proposed behavior model and hand-off method reduced about 98%, 59% than the standard's hand-off and default behavior model.

Development of Battery-free SAW Integrated Microsensor for Real Time Simultaneous Measurement of Humidity and $CO_2$ component (습도와 $CO_2$ 농도의 실시간 동시감지를 위한 무전원 SAW 기반 집적 센서 개발)

  • A 440MHz wireless and passive surface acoustic wave (SAW) based chemical sensor was developed on a $41^{\circ}YX\;LiNbO_3$ piezoelectric substrate for simultaneous measurement of $CO_2$ gas and relative humidity (RH) using a reflective delay line pattern as the sensor element. The reflective delay line is composed of an interdigital transducer (IDT) and several shorted grating reflectors. A Teflon AF 2400 and a hydrophilic $SiO_2$ layer were used as $CO_2$ and water vapor sensitive films. The coupling of mode (COM) modeling was conducted to determine optimal device parameters prior to fabrication. According to simulation results, the device was fabricated and then wirelessly measured using the network analyzer. The measured reflective coefficient $S_{11}$ in the time domain showed high signal/noise (S/N) ratio, small signal attenuation, and few spurious peaks. In the $CO_2$ and humidity testing, high sensitivity ($2^{\circ}/ppm$ for $CO_2$ detection and $7.45^{\circ}/%$RH for humidity sensing), good linearity and repeatability were observed in the $CO_2$ concentration ranges of $75{\sim}375ppm$ and humidity levels of $20{\sim}80%$RH. Temperature and humidity compensations were also investigated during the sensitivity evaluation process.

Sink Location Service via Circle Path for Geographic Routing in Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 네트워크에서 위치 기반 라우팅을 위한 원형 경로 기반 싱크 위치 서비스)

  • Geographic routing has been considered as an efficient, simple, and scalable routing protocol for wireless sensor networks since it exploits pure local location information instead of global topology information to route data packets. Geographic routing requires the sources nodes to be aware of the location of sinks. Most existing geographic routing protocols merely assume that source nodes are aware of the locations of sinks. How can source nodes get the locations of sinks was not addressed in detail. In this paper, we propose a sink location service via circle path for geographic routing in wireless sensor networks. In this scheme, a sink sends a Sink Location Announcement (SLA) message along a circle path, and a source node sends a Sink Location Query (SLQ) message along a straight path that certainly passes through the circle path. By this way we can guarantee the SLQ path and SLA path have at least one crossing point. The node located on the crossing point of the two paths informs the source node the sink location. This procedure can correctly work in any irregular profile sensor networks such as network that has holes or irregular shape by some rules. Simulation results show that our protocol is superior to other protocols in terms of energy consumption and control overhead.

  • In 3GPP2 standard, MIP is used and a PDSN performs the function of FA to support macro mobility. When a MS is roaming from a PDSN area to another, the mobility supported is called macro mobility, while it is called micro mobility when a MS is roaming from a RN area to another in a PDSN area. Since a PDSN performs the function of FA in 3GPP2 standard, it is possible to support mobility but its mechanism is actually for supporting macro mobility, not for micro mobility, thus it is weak in processing fast and seamless handoff to support micro mobility. In this paper, we suggest the seamless handoff algorithm barred on multicast group mechanism to support micro mobility. Depending on the moving direction and velocity of a MS, the suggested algorithm constructs a multicast group of RNs on the forecasted MS's moving path, and maximally delays RNs'joining to a multicast group to increase the network efficiency. Moreover, to resolve the buffer overhead problem of the existent multicast scheme, the algorithm suggests that each RN buffers data only after the forecasted handoff time. To prove deadlock freeness and liveness of the algorithm. we use state transition diagrams, a Petri-net modeling and its reachability tree. Then, we evaluate the performance by simulation.

  • This paper is intended to solve the technical problem that fails in large-capacity induction motor starting due to serious voltage drop during starting period. One induction motor that is established already can reach in steady-state using reactor starting method but the voltage magnitude of PCC (point of common coupling) has dropped down a little. When the same capacity induction motor is installed additionally in the PCC, where the existing induction motor is operating, voltage drop becomes more serious by starting of additional induction motor. As a result, the additional induction motor fails in starting. Therefore, voltage compensation method is proposed so that all of two induction motors can be started completely. First, modeling technique is described in order to implement starting characteristics of large induction motor. And then, this paper proposes strategic starting scheme by proper voltage compensation that use no-load transformer tap control (NLTC) and step voltage regulator (SVR) for starting of two large induction motors successfully and improving the feeding network voltage profile during the starting period. The induction motor discussed in this paper is the pumped induction motor of 2500kVA capacity that is operating by KOWACO (Korea Water Resources Corporation). Modeling and simulation is conducted using PSCAD/EMTDC software.

An Efficient Congestion Control Mechanism for Tree-based Many-to-many Reliable Multicast (트리 기반의 다대다 신뢰적 멀티캐스트를 위한 효율적인 혼잡 제어 기법)

  • Congestion control is a key task in reliable multicast along with error control. However, existing tree-based congestion control schemes such as MTCP and TRAMCC are designed for one-to-many reliable multicast and have some drawbacks when they are used for many-to-many reliable multicast. We propose an efficient congestion control mechanism, TMRCC, for tree-based many-to-many reliable multicast protocols. The proposed scheme is based on the congestion windowing mechanism and a rate controller is used in addition. The feedback for error recovery is exploited for congestion control as well to minimize the overhead at the receivers. The ACK timer and the NACK timers are set dynamically reflecting the network condition changes. The rate regulation algorithm in the proposed scheme is designed to help the flows sharing the same link to achieve the fair share quickly The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated using ns-2. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms TRAMCC in terms of intra- session fairness and shows good level of responsiveness, TCP-friendliness, and scalability. In addition, we implemented the proposed scheme by integrating with GAM that is one of many-to-many reliable multicast protocols and evaluated the performance in a laboratory-wide testbed.

The Mechanical Behavior of Jointed Rock Masses by Using PFC2D (PFC2D를 이용한 절리암반의 역학적 물성 평가연구)

  • Although the evaluation of the mechanical properties and behavior of jointed rock masses is very important for the design of tunnel and underground openings, it has always been considered the most difficult problem. One of the difficulties in describing the rock mass behavior is the selection of the appropriate constitutive model. This limitation may be overcome with the progress in discrete element software such as PFC, which does not need the user to prescribe a constitutive model for rock mass. In this paper, a 30\;m\;\times\;30\;m\;\times\;30\;m m jointed rock mass of road tunnel site was analyzed. h discrete fracture network was developed from the joint geometry obtained from core logging and surface survey. Using the discontinuities geometry from the DFN model, PFC simulations were carried out, starting with the intact rock and systematically adding the joints and the stress-strain response was recorded for each case. With the stress-strain response curves, the mechanical properties of jointed rock masses were determined. As expected, the presence of joints had a pronounced effect on mechanical properties of the rock mass. More importantly, getting the mechanical response of the PFC model doesn't require a user specified constitutive model.

The development of water circulation model based on quasi-realtime hydrological data for drought monitoring (수문학적 가뭄 모니터링을 위한 실적자료 기반 물순환 모델 개발)

  • Recently, Korea has faced a change in the pattern of water use due to urbanization, which has caused difficulties in understanding the rainfall-runoff process and optimizing the allocation of available water resources. In this perspective, spatially downscaled analysis of the water balance is required for the efficient operation of water resources in the National Water Management Plan and the River Basin Water Resource Management Plan. However, the existing water balance analysis does not fully consider water circulation and availability in the basin, thus, the obtained results provide limited information in terms of decision making. This study aims at developing a novel water circulation analysis model that is designed to support a quasi-real-time assessment of water availability along the river. The water circulation model proposed in this study improved the problems that appear in the existing water balance analysis. More importantly, the results showed a significant improvement over the existing model, especially in the low flow simulation. The proposed modeling framework is expected to provide primary information for more realistic hydrological drought monitoring and drought countermeasures by providing streamflow information in quasi-real-time through a more accurate natural flow estimation approach with highly complex network.

Analysis of the Entry Capacity of Roundabouts (Roundabout의 용량분석)

  • Signalized intersections are widely used in urban street network. However, it was reported that a roundabout is better than a signalized intersection in terms of delay when the approaching traffic volume for each bound is low. The objective of this study is to develop entry capacity models of roundabout and establish the warrant for signalized intersection based on the delay. The entry capacity of a roundabout is determined by the circulating traffic volume and the geometric design of the roundabout such as the diameter of central island, entry lane widths, and the circulating roadway width. The traffic and geometric characteristics of four roundabouts were collected and analyzed. The study reveals that; i)among the geometric features, the diameter of central island and the circulating roadway width influence the entry capacity, and ii)even though it is difficult to compare the models of each country due to different geometric features considered in the models, the models developed in this study show higher capacity than the models from Israel or Germany. These seem to be attributed to the facts that; i)the outside diameters of the roundabouts selected in this study are larger than in the other studies, and ii)the acceptable gap in Korea is smaller than that in the other countries. In order to compare the performances of round- about and signalized intersection, the performance of roundabouts was evaluated with the SIDRA. The simulation was conducted only for the roundabouts composed of single lane. According to the result of the analysis, it may be concluded that when the approaching traffic volume for each bound is lower than 600pcph, a roundabout is better than a signalized intersection in terms of its operational performance.
