  • Numerous researches on network self-configuration have been conducted on Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) and Ad Hoc network but the results have not been applied yet for factory automation. This paper presents development of intelligent process management systems conducting process monitoring and control irrelevant to physical position of a plant operator. The systems are indispensable for diagnosis of rotating machines which cannot exploit wired network. The system was implemented in a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) using Bluetooth communication protocol. When a mobile terminal reaches to communication range of the process management server, the server detects the mobile terminal to reconfigure plant network automatically. The server authenticates a user of the terminal to download and installs monitoring and control program considering authorized level of the user. If the terminal leaves communication range of the server, it deletes the node from the network and removes the program automatically to save resources and prevent security problems such as missing terminal. Operation of developed functions was verified in a testbed emulating steel-making plant.

  • The network-wide performance management is crucial for maintaining the quality of network services, which requires the collection and monitoring the performance data at individual network nodes. Most of the public networks, however, are composed of diverse, heterogeneous network nodes that are managed by various types of proprietary management systems with a conventional operator console and embedded management functions, which makes it difficult to implement the integrated performance management systems. Even though the developments of TMN (Telecommunication Management Network) based management systems are being attempted, the little work has been done in performance management area. In this paper, we propose the performance monitoring architecture for ATM switches using the 0₃ object model and describe how to implement the TMN-based performance prosy agent for ATM switching systems. The proposed performance proxy agent provides the TMN standard performance management interfaces by translating the proprietary performance management functions, which eventually leads to network-wide integrated performance management.

  • This paper presents a spectrum sharing and allocation problem in multiple network operators(NOs). Most of previous works as to dynamic spectrum allocation(DSA) schemes have presented the DSA gain achieved by utilizing the time or regional variations in traffic demand between multi-network operators(NOs). In this paper, we introduce the functionalities required for the entities related with the spectrum sharing and allocation and propose a spectrum allocation algorithm while considering the long-term priority(or fairness) between NOs, the prioritybetween multiple class services, and the urgent bandwidth request. It was shown that the proposed algorithm with priorities between multiple class services could sustain better satisfaction ratio(SR) than the fixed allocation schemes or one without priority under different traffic patterns. Therefore, we conclude that the proposed DSA with priorities between multiple class services and network operators could provide the fairness between service classes of network operators and effective negotiation procedure for urgent bandwidth request by users.

  • The main goal of this paper is to introduce a novel definition for fuzzy mathematical morphology and a neural network implementation. The generalized- mean operator plays the key role for the definition. Such definition is well suited for neural network implementation. The first stage of the shared-weight neural network has adequate architecture to perform morphological operation. The shared- weight network performs classification based on the features extracted with the fuzzy morphological operation defined in this paper. Therefore, the parameters for the fuzzy definition can be optimized using neural network learning paradigm. Learning rules for the structuring elements, degree of membership, and weighting factors are precisely described. In application to handwritten digit recognition problem, the fuzzy morphological shared-weight neural network produced the results which are comparable to the state-of art for this problem.

  • Electricity price forecasting has become an integral part of power system operation and control. In this paper, a wavelet transform (WT) based neural network (NN) model to forecast price profile in a deregulated electricity market has been presented. The historical price data has been decomposed into wavelet domain constitutive sub series using WT and then combined with the other time domain variables to form the set of input variables for the proposed forecasting model. The behavior of the wavelet domain constitutive series has been studied based on statistical analysis. It has been observed that forecasting accuracy can be improved by the use of WT in a forecasting model. Multi-scale analysis from one to seven levels of decomposition has been performed and the empirical evidence suggests that accuracy improvement is highest at third level of decomposition. Forecasting performance of the proposed model has been compared with (i) a heuristic technique, (ii) a simulation model used by Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), (iii) a Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) model, (iv) NN model, (v) Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model, (vi) Dynamic Regression (DR) model, and (vii) Transfer Function (TF) model. Forecasting results show that the performance of the proposed WT based NN model is satisfactory and it can be used by the participants to respond properly as it predicts price before closing of window for submission of initial bids.

  • The automatic radiopharmaceutical module consists of several 2-way valves, couple of syringes, gas supply unit, heating(cooling) unit and sensors to control the chemical reagents as well as to help the chemical reaction. In order to control the actuators of radiopharmaceutical module, the process is tabulated using spread sheet as like excel. Unlike the common program, a trivial error is too critical to allowed in the process because the error can lead to leak the radioactive reagent and to cause the synthesis equipment failure during synthesizing. Hence, the synthesis process has been validated using graphic simulation while the operator checks the whole process visually and undergoes trial and error. The verification of the synthesis process takes a long time and has a difficulty in finding the error. This study presents a methodology to verify the process algebraically while the radiopharmaceutical module is converted to the network model. The proposed method is validated using actual synthesis process.

  • Lately, many studies have been progressed for the protection human's lives and property as holding in check accidents happened by human's carelessness or mistakes. One part of these is the development of an autonomouse vehicle. General control method of vision-based autonomous vehicle system is to determine the navigation direction by analyzing lane images from a camera, and to navigate using proper control algorithm. In this paper, characteristic points are abstracted from lane images using lane recognition algorithm with sobel operator. And then the vehicle is controlled using two proposed auto-steering algorithms. Two steering control algorithms are introduced in this paper. First method is to use the geometric relation of a camera. After transforming from an image coordinate to a vehicle coordinate, a steering angle is calculated using Ackermann angle. Second one is using a neural network algorithm. It doesn't need to use the geometric relation of a camera and is easy to apply a steering algorithm. In addition, It is a nearest algorithm for the driving style of human driver. Proposed controller is a multilayer neural network using Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation learning algorithm which was estimated much better than other methods, i.e. Conjugate Gradient or Gradient Decent ones.

  • In the aeronautical environment, numerous regulatory and communication protocols exist that cover interconnection of on-board equipment inside the aircraft. Developed and implemented by the airlines since the 1960s, these communication systems are reliable, strong, certified and able to contact different sensors distributed throughout the aircraft. However, the scenario is slightly different in the structural health monitoring (SHM) field as the requirements and specifications that a global SHM communication system must fulfill are distinct. The number of SHM sensors installed in the aircraft rises into the thousands, and it is impossible to maintain all of the SHM sensors in operation simultaneously because the overall power consumption would be of thousands of Watts. This design of a new communication system must consider aspects as management of the electrical power supply, topology of the network for thousands of nodes, sampling frequency for SHM analysis, data rates, selected real-time considerations, and total cable weight. The goal of the research presented in this paper is to describe and present a possible integration scheme for the large number of SHM sensors installed on-board an aircraft with low power consumption. This paper presents a new communications system for SHM sensors known as the Bi-Instruction Link Bi-Operator (BILBO).

  • We focus on the RP (Rendezvous Point) system model in the multicast network based on BcN (Broadband Convergence Network) integrating broadcasting, telecommunication and Internet with one. Based on the condition multiple queues with different service and single server, when the arrivals tome in group with the site of the group geometrically distributed, we define the relationship between incoming arrival rate and corresponding buffer size. We also investigate the Profit according to both Service Provider and Network Operator Then we make a decision whether a new service request is accepted or not based on given interning rate range.

  • 5G goes beyond people to serve indoor and outdoor companies and industries, as well as campuses such as halls, industrial complexes, educational institutions, stadiums, dense urban areas, rural areas, and government institutions. Therefore, a new approach to small cells is needed. Accordingly, 3GPP and Small Cell Forum are researching 5G small cell architecture; 3GPP, Small Cell Forum, and 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation are also researching private networks tailored to meet the specific requirements of various companies and local governments. In particular, in the UK, a small cell-based technology is required for realizing the Joint Operator Technical Specifications-Neutral Host In-Building specification to cost-effectively secure indoor coverage. Further, the research on the SON(Self-Organizing Network) technology for small cells in 5G, where commercialization has begun, is required. The 5G-based small cell structure, private network, and Neutral Host In-Building and SON reviewed in this study are at the initial research stages; therefore, additional research is needed to secure the competitiveness of the small cell technology in 5G and Beyond 5G.
