  • Wireless multi-hop communication is one of the key technologies to operate Unmanned Ground System (UGS) networks efficiently. Conventionally a lot of routing protocol has been developed and studied for multi-hop networks like Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET). However, the routing protocol for the unique environment of the UGS requires further studies, since conventional routing protocols cannot be used itself for UGS networks. In this paper, we propose the Betweenness Centrality based Geographic Routing (BCGR) which considers the main function of UGS. BCGR utilizes expanded ego betweenness centrality, mobility and location information error, respectively. We have conducted a simulation study for evaluating the performance of the BCGR using ns-3, and our simulation results show that BCGR outperforms the conventional routing protocols such as AODV and GPSR in terms of end-to-end transmission reliability, throughput and delay.

  • In Network Centric Warfare (NCW) environment, having a tactical communication network which provides high data exchange rate is very important. In the process, Korean Army developed Mobile Subscriber Access Point (MSAP) which is based on the commercial Wireless BroadBand (Wibro). MSAP is a vehicle attached base station which provide high data exchange communication environment in a given area. Thus MSAP can provide high data exchange rate and mobility to accomplish missions in the battlefield more effectively. In this paper, we propose an operational strategy of using MSAP to provide tactical communication network in the battlefield. The idea is to find the optimal location point of the MSAP in the operational area where all the troops in the operational area can be supported by the MSAP with a minimum number of MSAP. Since the current Korean Army's basic idea of using MSAP is just distribute this MSAP to each troop, so by applying our strategy we can save MSAP devices for more flexible operation. We will show our strategy's benefits through the mathematical model and the algorithm of the presented problem.

  • ADAS is the air defense control system performing air surveillance and identification of ROK and near air. This system is self-developed by Air Force, currently operated successfully as the alternative system of MCRC. ADAS processes converting and combining transferred the real time radar data detected by radars. additionally, it displays significant radar data as producing in tracks. Then, it uses the message queue for IPC(Inter Process Communication). the various tactical data processed in the server is ultimately send to the network management process through the message queue for transmitting to the weapon director console. the weapon director receives this transmitted tactical data through the console to execute air defense operations. However, there is a problem that data packet is delayed or lost since the weapon Director does not receive as the amount of tactical data from the server overflowed with air tracks and missions increased. This paper improved the algorism to display and transmit the various tactical data processed from ADAS server to numbers of the weapon director console in the real time without any delay or lost. Improved the algorism, established at exercise, the development server in the real operation network and the weapon director console, is proved by comparing the number of sending tactical data packets in the server and receiving packets in the weapon director.

  • In network-centric warfare, the communication network has played a significant role in defeating an enemy. Especially, the urgent and important data should be preferentially delivered in time. Thus, we proposed a priority MAC protocol based on CSMA/CA with Binary Exponential Back-off for tactical wireless networks. This MAC protocol suggested a PCW(Prioritized Contention Window) with differentiated back-off time by priority and a RBR(Repetitive Back-off Reset) to reset the remaining back-off time. The results showed that this proposed MAC has higher performance than those of DCF(Distributed Coordination Function) in the transmission success rate and the number of control packet transmission by reducing the packet collision. Thus, it produced more effective power consumption. In comparison with DCF, this proposed protocol is more suitable in high-traffic network.

  • Currently, our society has been changed from the industrial society to the information society. As the war progresses to Information Warfare, Network-Centric Warfare, Long-Range Precision Engagement and Robot Warfare, the military should advance to High-tech Scientific force. For this creation of the war potential, it is regarded as the warfighting experiment is a critical method. Surely it is rational that LVC(Live Virtual Constructive simulation) is desirable to make the warfighting experiment. But because it is limited by the cost, the time, the place and the resource, the constructive simulation(M&S : Modeling&Simulation) is a good tool to solve those problems. There are some studies about the evaluation process for developing the model, but it is unsatisfying in the process of the constructive simulations' operation. This study focuses on the way of constructive simulation operation, which is supplied with the evaluation process(VV&A : Verification Validation & Accreditation). We introduce the example of the rear area operation simulation for "appropriateness evaluation to the organization of logistic corps" by the AWAM(Army Weapon Analysis Model). This study presents the effective methods of the constructive simulations, which is based on the reliable evaluation process, so it will contribute to the warfighting experiments.

  • Recently, as the tactical environment has changedto one of network-centric warfare, where all components are connected through a network, much emphasis has been placed on the use of an artificial satellite for achieving high communication speeds. To provide a high-quality artificial satellite link, stabilization is very important in a platform. Previous stabilization control techniques used PI control, which is commonly used for vessels. However, for ground terminals that require a higher communication speed, the antenna should move faster to track an artificial satellite within a short period of time. Moreover, the terminals must be equipped with proper sensors and algorithms so that they can detect and compensate for external disturbances while tracking the artificial satellite. In this study, through the analysis of the dynamic model of an antenna system, a stabilization algorithm for ground terminals was proposed;this algorithm shows high isolation performance in the low-frequency range and includes $PI^2$ control.

  • As interest in MANET is increasing nowadays, research upon an efficient MANET routing protocol is actively under way. A LQA(Link Qualty Aware)-AODV routing protocol to deal with frequent changes of topology and wireless link variations under tactical operating conditions is proposed in this paper. The suggested LQA-AODV takes into account the channel capacity of each hop during the route request process of the traditional AODV protocol. In detail, LQA-AODV adds a channel capacity cost value to the RREQ message format that occurs during the routing process of the existing AODV Routing Protocol causing the accumulated channel capacity cost values of each sections to be compared before establishing a route. To verify the performance of LQA-AODV, NS2.35 was utilized and the Link-Quality Model was applied in order to reflect the tactical wireless environment. The simulation compares and analyzes LQA-AODV and the existing AODV, showing a large improvement over the traditional AODV in regards to the Packet Delivery Ratio, and End-to-End Delay.
