How Network Openness and Reciprocity Drive Financial Performance Considering Environmental Uncertainty

  • Purpose: Effective network management will be essential for B2B companies as they navigate the challenges of today's fast-changing global business landscape. This study seeks to propose effective strategies that help B2B companies develop competitive advantages and attain sustainable growth by optimizing their networks in uncertain environments. Research design, data and methodology: This study suggests that network openness and network reciprocity affect the firm's financial performance, and that these effects may vary according to the level of environmental uncertainty. The hypotheses were tested with data collected using a cross-sectional survey of plant engineering network. The gathered data was analyzed by multiple regression analysis using the STATA program Results: The results of Model 1 indicate that both network openness and network reciprocity have positive effects on financial performance. In Model 2, environmental uncertainty strengthens the positive effect of network openness on financial performance, but reduces the positive impact of network reciprocity. These findings suggest that environmental uncertainty influences a firm's financial performance. Conclusions: This study offers both theoretical and practical insights. Although network structure is considered a key factor, its subjective nature poses challenges in measurement, and the cross-sectional design introduces certain limitations. Future research should investigate different applicable directions building on the findings of this study.

GROUP SECRET KEY GENERATION FOR 5G Networks

  • Key establishment method based on channel reciprocity for time division duplex (TDD) system has earned a vital consideration in the majority of recent research. While most of the cellular systems rely on frequency division duplex (FDD) systems, especially the 5G network, which is not characterized by the channel reciprocity feature. This paper realizes the generation of a group secret key for multi-terminals communicated through a wireless network in FDD mode, by utilizing the nature of the physical layer for the wireless links between them. I consider a new group key generation approach, which using bitwise XOR with a modified pairwise secret key generation approach not based on the channel reciprocity feature. Precisely, this multi-node secret key agreement technique designed for three wireless network topologies: 1) the triangle topology, 2) the multi-terminal star topology, and 3) the multi-node chain topology. Three multi-node secret key agreement protocols suggest for these wireless communication topologies in FDD mode, respectively. I determine the upper bound for the generation rate of the secret key shared among multi-node, for the three multi-terminals topologies, and give numerical cases to expose the achievement of my offered technique.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of communication-structure characteristics on performance in online collaboration using the data from Github, one of representative open source software development platforms. We analyze the impact of in-degree/out-degree centralization and reciprocity of communication network on collaboration performance in each project. In addition, we investigate the moderating effect of owner types, an individual developer or an organization. Design/methodology/approach We collect the data of 838 Github projects, and conduct social network analysis for measuring in-degree/out-degree centralization and reciprocity as independent variables. With these variables, hierarchical regression analysis is employed on the relationship between the characteristics of communication structure and collaborative performance. Findings Our results show that for the project owned by an organization, the centralized structure of communication is not associated with the collaboration performance. In addition, the reciprocity is positively related to the collaboration performance. On the other hand, for the project owned by an individual developer, the centralized structure of communication is positively related to the performance, and the reciprocity does not show the positive relationship on the performance.

  • 이 논문의 목적은 사회적경제 기업의 지속가능한 지역생태계(이하 '지역생태계')의 구성요소를 규명하고, 이를 형성하는 데 근본적인 영향을 미치는 호혜, 배려와 공공정책의 원리를 탐구하는데 있다. 사회적경제 기업의 지역생태계는 특정 지역에서 기업의 재화와 서비스의 기획 생산 유통 판매의 과정과 연계된 모든 이해관계자들과 그 기업의 사회적 가치 지향성을 지속적으로 유지 확산할 수 있는 주체들이 연결되어서 상호작용하는 시스템을 의미한다. 지역생태계는 거래 관계와 사회적 관계로 이루어진 '지역네트워크', '중간조직' 및 '공공의 역할'의 상호작용을 통해 작동하며, 지역별로 달리 나타나는 호혜, 배려와 공공정책의 특성은 다양한 형태의 지역생태계를 형성한다. 이러한 지역생태계 개념 틀을 토대로 협동조합 고랑이랑의 사례를 심층 분석한 결과 지역생태계의 특성이 배려를 중심으로 호혜와 공공정책이 상호작용하는 것으로 나타났다.

지식이전행위, 어떻게 측정해야 하나? -제공자와 수용자의 관점 비교 (How Should We Measure Knowledge Transfer? : Comparison of the Knowledge source's and the Recipient's Perspectives)

  • This study examined the influence of the antecedents of knowledge transfer from both the knowledge source's and recipient's perspectives using a social network survey. Prior research usually focused on either perspective of the knowledge source or recipient, thus could not include both. Analyzing the responses from 335 R&D employees of the five firms, the study showed that all antecedents of knowledge transfer - reward, reciprocity, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control - are influential on knowledge transfer from the knowledge source's perspective. However, from the knowledge recipient's perspective, perceived behavioral control was influential on the quality of knowledge transfer and subjective norm was on the number of knowledge recipients. Expected reward and reciprocity did not show significant influence. This study proved that the necessity of considering both the knowledge source's and the recipient's perspectives when measuring knowledge transfer and the importance of intrinsic motivations, such as subjective norm and perceived behavioral control.

온라인 커뮤니티 성장에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구 (An Study on Determinants Affecting a Growth of Online Community)

  • This study is to analyze factors affecting a growth of online community with perspectives of social network. Particularly this study tries to explore structural phenomenon built by interactions between users in a certain of free board belonging to the online community, in which focuses on one's writing a comments responding on those of others. With using SNA(Social Network Analysis), the social network data calculated from users' interaction shown as their comments were collected to draw out each individual's centrality value representing the structure of the online community and also we estimated duration time and the number of each comments as a proxy variable representing growth of the online community. And then cause-and-effect relationship between individual's centrality value and the duration time and the number of each comment were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, Core-Periphery, Centralization and Reciprocity have significant effects on the duration time and the number of each comment, therefore those significant values representing online structure will give an implication to manage, to promote the online community, to forecast its evolution path and to build critical policies.

  • SNS (Social network service) characteristics are perceived to simplify use. We carried out empirical studies on these parameters to observe the impact on the image of catering SNS online by word-of-mouth. The subjects of the study were as follows: 32.3% (392 persons) 19 years old, 67.7% (821 persons) over 19 years, 51.0% (619 persons) in their 20s, 22.1% (268 persons) in their 30s, 17.6% in their 50s, and 9.3% (112 persons) over 50 years. After verifying the hypothesis proposed that SNS characteristics perceived the ease of use, the significant factor identified in usability were connectivity Speed (${\beta}=0.213$), playfulness (${\beta}=0.246$), information (${\beta}=0.115$), and reciprocity (${\beta}=0.357$). Dual reciprocity had the most impact. It was observed that a longer impact of these significant factors improved the feel and fun of use. If SNS companies cater to, quick and easy, diverse, reliable and latest information, they can increase the ease of use, and availability, depending on the goals. Also, significant factors in the SNS features and online word of mouth was playfulness (${\beta}=0.312$), information (${\beta}=0.207$), reciprocity (${\beta}=0.066$) and perceived ease of use, and usefulness (${\beta}=0.293$), double playfulness had the maximum impact. These features provided more fun, reliable information, and could quickly deliver the latest information. The more the perceived usefulness, and ease of use, higher was the online word-of-mouth effect. SNS usage characteristics of connectivity Speed did not show any statistical significance in online word-of-mouth. Thus, catering businesses need to find ways to increase the ease of use, make the usefulness multifaceted, constantly checking the catering information on the SNS and ensuring to get the latest information is from diverse and reliable sources. This would increase the fun for the customer making the SNS to actively be utilized as a marketing tool.

The Lifespan of Social Hub In Social Networking Sites: The Role of Reciprocity, Local Dominance and Social Interaction

  • This paper examines a highly used social networking site (SNS) by studying the behavior of more than 11 million members over a 20 month period. The importance of the most highly active members to the overall network is demonstrated by the significant fraction of total visits by extremely active members in a given period but such members have surprisingly short lifespans (an average of only 2.5 months) as social hubs. We form and test a number of hypotheses concerning these social hubs and the determinants of their lifespan. We find that the speed of achieving social hub status increases the lifespan of a social hub. The norm of reciprocity is strongly confirmed to be present in the social hub population as visits are reciprocated. We also find that increasing local dominance in terms of activities over neighboring agents leads to a longer lifespan of a social hub. Contrary to expectations, local clustering in the vicinity of social hubs is smaller (rather than larger) than overall clustering. We discuss managerial implications in the paper.

예비중등교사와 예비언론인의 도움 연결망 구조와 변화 비교 (A Comparison of Help Network Structures and Changes between Pre-service Secondary Teachers and Pre-journalists)

  • 본 연구는 예비중등교사의 전문적 학습공동체를 활성화시킬 수 있는 방안을 모색하기 위해 예비중등교사와 연결망 분석과 관련된 수업에 참여한 예비언론인의 도움 연결망 구조와 변화를 비교하였다. 이를 위해 기존의 회귀분석과 달리 개체들 사이의 관계를 종속으로 보고, 연결망 형성 원리에 대해 통계적 추론을 가능케 하는 ERGM으로 분석을 수행하였다. 분석 대상은 예비중등교사 43명과 예비언론인 29명으로 연결망 조사 시 초기와 후기에 2회 모두 응답한 학생으로 한정하였다. 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 분석대상과 조사시기에 상관없이 개인 특성 변수만을 고려한 모형은 연결망 구조 변수를 함께 고려한 모형에 비해 설명력이 낮게 나타났다. 둘째, 예비중등교사의 도움 연결망에서는 전이성이 통계적으로 유의하게 나타나지 않았지만, 연결망 조사 시기와 상관없이 예비언론인을 대상으로 분석한 결과에서는 모두 통계적으로 유의하게 나타났다. 셋째, 예비중등교사의 초기 도움 연결망에서는 호혜성, 내향대중성, 외향활동성 효과가 나타난 반면, 후기 연결망에서는 정적 호혜성과 부적 외향활동성 효과만 나타났다. 마지막으로 네트워크 구조 변수 효과의 현장 적용 가능성을 제안하였으며, 본 연구의 제한점과 후속 연구를 제시하였다.

지속가능발전 모델링에 있어서 사회자본의 도입: 세 편의 시스템 다이내믹스 모델에 대한 제언 (Introducing Social Capital to Sustainable Development Modeling: Comments on Three System Dynamics Models)

  • The concept of social capital has recently been highlighted in most fields of social science because social capital is believed to be an alternative of market and government failures. However, social capital is of high ambiguity that hinders in conceptualizing and modeling that can differs from the premises, such as whether social capital lies in individual actors or collective substances, or whether social networks are functioning by rationality or emotion. This study therefore tries to examine the concept of social capital and suggest 6 types of it following by the anthropologic concept of 'reciprocity' as well as to provide fruitful discussions on the introduction of social capital variables to System Dynamics modeling of sustainable development. Conclusively, the introduction of social capital to the integration models of environment-economy-society should be based on strongly understanding the social networks, individual identities, and local particularities of the relevant localities in order to enhance the structural validity and applicability of sustainable development models in System Dynamics.
