  • Many portable devices are coming to be commercially successful and provide useful services to mobile users. Mobile devices may request a variety of data types, including text and multimedia data, thanks to the rich content of the Internet. Different types of data and/or different classes of users may need to be treated with different qualities of service. The implementation of service differentiation in wireless networks is very difficult because of device mobility and wireless channel contention when the backoff algorithm is used to resolve contention. Modification of the t)mary exponential backoff algorithm is one possibility to allow the design of several classes of data traffic flows. We present a study of modifications to the backoff algorithm to support three classes of flows: sold, silver, and bronze. For example, the gold c]ass flows are the highest priority and should satisfy their required target bandwidth, whereas the silver class flows should receive reasonably high bandwidth compared to the bronze class flows. The mixture of the two different transport protocols, UDP and TCP, in ad hoc networks raises significant challenges when defining backoff algorithm modifications. Due to the different characteristics of UDP and TCP, different backoff algorithm modifications are applied to each class of packets from the two transport protocols. Nevertheless, we show by means of simulation that our approach of backoff algorithm modification clearly differentiates service between different flows of classes regardless of the type of transport protocol.

  • This study presents NGDM(National Geospatial Information Distribution Model) in order to effectively utilize and differently apply geospatial information which is important in the dispersion of GIS. In order to establish the NGDM, this study draws the guideline of NGDM in Korea by analyzing its present condition of domestic and foreign geospatial information distribution. It also investigates some major factors forming the infrastructure of NGDM in regulative, technical, physical, and social aspects. Based on these factors, this study presents a three-staged NGDM that is applicable in Korea. The NGDM consists of four components that are the consumer, supplier, gateway for the clearinghouse and the clearinghouse of the geospatial information. According to the management form of geospatial information, the types of NGDM are classified as the concentration type, the distribution type, and compound type. Also, this study explains the mutual relationship between the NGDM's components and suggests a three-staged NGDM of planting, growth, and maturity period considering comparison results of classified models and development direction of regulation, protocol, communication network, electronic commerce, and etc.

  • Background: DNA vaccination represents an anticipated approach for the control of numerous infectious diseases. Used alone, however, DNA vaccine is weak immunogen inferior to viral vectors. In recent, heterologous prime-boost vaccination leads DNA vaccines to practical reality. Methods: We assessed prime-boost immunization strategies with a DNA vaccine (minigene, $gB_{498-505}$ DNA) and recombinant vaccinia virus $(vvgB_{498-505})$ expressing epitope $gB_{498-505}$ (SSIEF ARL) of CD8+ T cells specific for glycoprotein B (gB) of herpes simplex virus (HSV). Animals were immunized primarily with $gB_{498-505}$ epitope-expressing DNA vaccine/recombinant vaccinia virus and boosted with alternative vaccine type expressing entire Ag. Results: In prime-boost protocols using vvgBw (recombinant vaccinia virus expressing entire Ag) and $vvgB_{498-505}$, CD8+ T cell-mediated immunity was induced maximally at both acute and memory stages if primed with vvgBw and boosted with $vvgB_{498-505}$ as evaluated by CTL activity, intracellular IFN-staining, and MHC class I tetramer staining. Similarly $gB_{498-505}$ DNA prime-gBw DNA (DNA vaccine expressing entire Ag) boost immunization elicited the strongest CD8+ T cell responses in protocols based on DNA vaccine. However, the level of CD8+ T cell-mediated immunity induced with prime-boost vaccination using DNA vaccine expressing epitope or entire Ag was inferior to those based on vvgBw and $vvgB_{498-505}$. Of particular interest CD8+ T cell-mediated immunity was optimally induced when $vvgB_{498-505}$ was used to prime and gB DNA was used as alternative boost. Especially CD7+ T cell responses induced by such protocol was longer lasted than other protocols. Conclusion: These facts direct to search for the effective strategy to induce optimal CD8+ T cell-mediated immunity against cancer and viral infection.

  • In this paper, we propose a handoff-aware DiffServ scheduler which intends to guarantee various QoS requirements of multimedia services for mobile nodes in TDD/CDMA based wireless networks. TDD is widely used duplexing mechanism in wireless communications. Unlike FDD, TDD allows a node to symmetrically communicate with a base station by using a single frequency band, resulting in high utilization of wireless resources. DiffServ is regarded as a relatively simple QoS support mechanism and thus it is easy to be extended. This is because DiffServ is not a per-flow based mechanisms and it does not require any signaling protocol. However, previously proposed DiffServ schedulers for wired networks can not be deployed directly into wireless networks since they do not consider properties of wireless networks. As a solution to the problem, DSS(DiffServ Supporting Scheduler) was proposed. DSS uses uplink channel, which is originally used for a node to require a base station to transmit packets, to support QoS efficiently. However, QoS does not consider handoff so that it can not support QoS for moving nodes from one cell to the other cell. Therefor. the proposed handoff support QoS mechanism is necessary for TCC/CDMA networks. The proposed scheme allows a mobile node to achieve seamless service without QoS degradation even for the handoff duration.

  • In the event of a large-scale disaster such as an earthquake, typhoon, landslide, and building collapse, the disaster situation awareness and timely disaster information sharing play a key role in the disaster response and decision-making stages for disaster management, such as disaster site control and evacuation of residents. In this paper, an exited field investigation system of NDMI (National Disaster Management Research Institute) was enhanced with an LTE-VPN- based wireless communication system to provide an effective on-site response in an urgent disaster situation and share observation data or analysis information acquired at the disaster fields in real-time. The required performance of wireless communication for the disaster field investigation system was then analyzed and evaluated. The experimental result for field data transmission performance of an advanced wireless communication investigation system showed that the UDP transmission performance of at least 4.1Mbps is required to ensure a seamless video conference system between disaster sites. In addition, a wireless communication bandwidth of approximately 10 Mbps should be guaranteed to smoothly share the communication and field data between the survey equipment currently mounted on the survey vehicle.

  • In this study, file size for measurement and the service system's billing data were submitted to a comparative analysis by performing a verification test on the billing system of three major mobile communication services providers, based on the wireless Internet service packet. As shown in the result of the verification test, there were some differences in the billing data due to transmission overhead, according to the network quality that is affected by the wireless environment of mobile operators. Consequently, the packet analysis system was proposed as a means of applying consistent packet billing to all service providers being compared. If the packet analysis system is added to supplement the current billing system various user requirements can be met. Billing by Packet among mobile operators and differentiated billing based on the content value are available, since the packet data can be extracted through protocol analysis by service, and it can be classified by content tape through traffic data analysis. Furthermore, customer's needs can be satisfied who request more information on the detailed usage, and more flexible and diverse billing policies can be supported like application of charging conditions to the non-charging packet handling. All these services are expected to contribute to the popularization of the wireless Internet service, since user complaints about the service charge could be reduced.

  • In this paper, we propose a new relay selection algorithm for a two-way multiple relay channel. In the two-way multiple relay channel, two users exchange information with each other via multiple relays. The relays use a decode-and-forward or amplify-and-forward protocol, and exploit the combining process of the received packets to reduce the required channel resources. In the multiple relay network, diversity gain is achieved as the number of relays increases, and various schemes are proposed. In this paper, we propose a single best relay selection scheme based on instantaneous channel conditions. First of all, relays obtain the instantaneous channel state information in the handshaking process, and a single best relay is selected in a distributed methods prior to data transmissions. The relay selection metric is proposed so that the end-to-end channel condition is evaluated based on the intantaneous channel state informations. Simulation results show that the proposed relay selection algorithm achieve the increased throughput and diversity order when the number of potential relays is increased.

  • With the development of IT Info-Communications technology, the vehicle with a combination of wireless-communication technology has resulted in significant research into the convergence of the component of existing traffic with information, electronics and communication technology. Intelligent Vehicle Communication is a Machine-to-Machine (M2M) concept of the Vehicle-to-Vehicle. The Vehicle-to-Infrastructure communication consists of safety and the ease of transportation. Security technologies must precede the effective Intelligent Vehicle Communication Structure, unlike the existing internet environment, where high-speed vehicle communication is with the security threats of a wireless communication environment and can receive unusual vehicle messages. In this paper, the Vehicle Identification number between the V2I and the secure message communication protocol was proposed using hash functions and a time stamp, and the validity of the vehicle was assessed. The proposed system was the performance evaluation section compared to the conventional technique at a rate VPKI aspect showed an approximate 44% reduction. The safety, including authentication, confidentiality, and privacy threats, were analyzed.

  • Mobile P2P protocols in ad-hoc networks have gained large attention recently. Although there has been much research on P2P algorithms for wired networks, existing P2P protocols are not suitable for mobile ad-hoc networks because they do not consider mobility of peers. This study proposes a new cluster-based P2P protocol for ad hoc networks which utilizes peer mobility. In typical cluster-based P2P algorithms, each cluster has a super peer and other peers of the cluster register their file list to the super peer. High mobility peers would cause a lot of file list registration traffic because they hand-off between clusters frequently. In the proposed scheme, while peers with low mobility behave in the same way as the peers of the typical cluster-based P2P schemes, peers with high mobility behave differently. They inform their entrance to the cluster region to the super peer but they do not register their file list to the super peer. When a peer wishes to find a file, it first searches the registered file list of the super peer and if fails, query message is broadcasted. We perform mathematical modeling, analysis and optimization of the proposed scheme regarding P2P traffic and associated routing traffic. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme performs much better than or similar to the typical cluster-based P2P scheme and flooding based Gnutella.

  • Inter-vehicular communication that propagates information without infrastructures has drawn a lot of interest. However, it is difficult to apply conventional ad-hoc routing protocols directly in inter-vehicular communication due to frequent changes in the network topology caused by high mobility of the vehicles. MMFP(Multi-hop MAC Forwarding) is a unicast forwarding protocol that transport packets based on the reachability information instead of path selection or position information. However, delivering public safety messages informing road conditions such as collision, obstacles and fog through inter-vehicular communication requires broadcast rather than unicast since these messages contain information valuable to most drivers within a close proximity. Flooding is one of the simplest methods for multi-hop broadcast, but it suffers from reduced packet delivery-ratio and high transmission delay due to an excessive number of duplicated packets. This paper presents two multi-hop broadcast protocols for inter-vehicular communication that extend the MMFP. UMHB(Unreliable Multi-Hop Broadcast) mitigates the duplicated packets of MMFP by limiting the number of nodes to rebroadcast packets. UMHB, however, still suffers from low delivery ratio. RMHB(Reliable Multi-Hop Broadcast) uses acknowledgement and retransmission in order to improve the reliability of UMHB at the cost of increase in transmission delay, which we show through simulation is within an acceptable range for collision avoidance application.
