  • Recently researches of P2P media streaming have been actively published, but the research what kind of P2P overlay networks are better to delivering media data has not been attended. This paper designs a P2P streaming media system model. In this system, we constructs a Half-Structure P2P overlay protocol based on node's capability as the infrastructure of streaming application, which utilizes the heterogeneity of the nodes to maintain topology, presents a active contents diffusing algorithm and Two-stage search algorithm, make it possible for nodes in P2P system to collect information according their capacity and reduces the number of forwarding packet compared with flooding. Also, we give an optimal scheme to scheduling media data.

  • A Block-Time-Bounded Time Division Multiple Access (BTB-TDMA) medium access control protocol, which estimates the propagation delay of nodes according to their location and moving velocity information, has been proposed for underwater acoustic networks. BTB-TDMA provides nodes with their transmission schedules by a time block that is a time unit, newly designed for BTB-TDMA. In this paper, we investigate how the receiver collision, that is induced by the asymmetry between node's uplink and downlink propagation delay due to its mobility, affects the performance of BTB-TDMA. To do this, we analytically obtain the collision rate, the channel access delay, and the channel utilization by considering the asymmetry of propagation delay. Then, simulations are extensively performed with respect to the length of a time block by varying the number of nodes, the network range, and the node's velocity. Thus, the simulation results can suggest performance criteria to determine the optimal length of a time block which minimizes the collision rate and concurrently maximizes the channel access delay and the channel utilization.

  • Advances in IT technology and modernization of AtoN(Aids to Navigation) facility has increased the unmanned operation of AtoN. However, in AtoN facilities, accessibility is low and it is not able to perform maintenance on the bad weather at the time. In connection with this, in this paper, by applying the protocol of the enhanced dual LED marine lantern, we implemented the short-range monitoring system for a mobile terminal. System implemented in this paper can be carried out confirm the operation status, inspection or control of the dual LED marine lantern at a short distance. Also, it is possible to reduce maintenance costs and prevent accidents during inspection of AtoN. At the same time, it enables the operation test easily without disassembling the product, effective AtoN operation is possible. We tested the system that has been implemented using prototype of the LED marine lantern and confirmed state informations and controlled the behavior of the system in real time.

  • Providing Quality-of-Service (QoS) guarantee requires the reservation of resource needed to accommodate the traffic flow of service for which resource reservation protocol (RSVP) was introduced. However, if any RSVP-capable router on the path fails to accommodate the traffic flow due to lack of resource, the flow is not allowed no matter how much surplus resources other routers on the path have. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a resource reservation method with available resource migration between RSVP-capable routers in which the routers use the recently developed latency optimized fair queuing scheduler. The results of the simulation applying the proposed method to an evaluation network show that it may yield the gain of up to 165% compared to that in the original one in terms of the number of admitted flows.

  • Advances in circuit and integration technology are continuously boosting the speed of processors. One of the main challenges presented by such developments is the effective use of powerful processors in shared memory multiprocessor system. We believe that the interconnection problem is not solved even for small scale shared memory multiprocessor, since the speed of shared buses is unlikely to keep up with the bandwidth requirements of new powerful processors. In the past few years, point-to-point unidirectional connection have emerged as a very promising interconnection technology. The single slotted ring is the simplest form point-to-point interconnection. The main limitation of the single slotted ring architecture is that latency of access increase linearly with the number of the processors in the ring. Because of this, we proposed the dual slotted ring as an alternative to single slotted ring for cache-based multiprocessor system. In this paper, we analyze the proposed dual slotted ring architecture using new snooping protocol and enforce simulation to compare it with single slotted ring.

  • In this paper, the real-time facility of the operating system for a VOD(Video On Demand) server have been analyzed and implemented. The requirements of the real-time scheduling have been gathered by analyzing the model of the video-data-transfer-path. Particularly, the influence of the bottleneck subsystem have been analyzed. Thus, we have implemented the real-time scheduler and primitives which is proper for processing the digital video. In performance measurements, the degree of the guarantee of the real-time scheduler have been experimented. The measured data show that the most time constraints of the process is satisfied. But, the network protocol processing by the interrupt is a major obstacle of the real-time scheduling. We also have compared the difference between the real-time scheduler and the non-real-time scheduler by measuring the inter-execution time. According to the measured results, the real-time scheduler should be used for efficient video service because the processor time allocated to the process can't be estimated when the non-real-time scheduler is used.

  • Deploying advanced home networking technologies and modern home-networked devices in residential environments provides a playground for new home applications and services. Because home multimedia entertainment is among the most essential home applications, this paper presents an appealing home media content sharing scenario: home-networked devices can discover neighboring devices and share local media content, as well as enormous amounts of Internet media content in a convenient and networked manner. This ideal scenario differs from traditional usages that merely offer local media content and require tedious manual operations of connection setup and file transfer among various devices. To achieve this goal, this study proposes a proxy gateway architecture for home multimedia content distribution. The proposed architecture integrates several functional mechanisms, including UPnP-based device discovery, home gateway, Internet media provision, and in-home media content delivery. This design addresses several inherent limitations of device heterogeneity and network interoperability on home and public networks, and allows diverse home-networked devices to play media content in an identical and networked manner. Prototypical implementation of the proposed proxy gateway architecture develops a proof-of-concept software, integrating a BitTorrent peer-to-peer client, a UPnP protocol stack, and a UPnP AV media server, as well as media distribution and management components on the OSGi home gateway platform. Practical demonstration shows the proposed design and scenario realization, offering users an unlimited volume of media content for home multimedia entertainment.

  • Geographic routing protocols are very attractive choice for routing in wireless sensor networks because they have been shown to scale better than other alternatives. Under certain ideal conditions, geographic routing works correctly and efficiently. The most commonly used geographic routing protocols include greedy forwarding coupled with face routing. Existing face routing algorithms use planarization techniques that rely on the unit-graph assumption. In real world, many conditions violate the unit-graph assumption of network connectivity, such as location errors, communication voids and radio irregularity, cause failure in planarization and consequently face routing. In this paper, we propose the direction-based geographic routing, which enables energy efficient routing under realistic conditions without planarization techniques. Our proposed approach is for the case in which many sensors need to collect data and send it to a central node. Simulation results show that the protocol exhibits superior performances in terms of energy consumption, delivery success rate, and outperforms the compared protocols.

  • Providing Quality-of-Service(QoS) guarantee requires the reservation of resource needed to accommodate the traffic flow of service for which resource reservation protocol(RSVP) was introduced. However, if any RSVP-capable router on the path fails to accommodate the traffic flow due to lack of resource, the flow is not allowed no matter how much surplus resources other routers on the path have. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a resource reservation method that can adjust adaptively the delay budget of traffic flow allocated to each RSVP-capable router in which the router uses the recently developed general-time fair queuing scheduler. The results of the simulation applying the proposed method to an evaluation network show that it may yield the gain of up to 90% compared to that in the original one in terms of the number of admitted flows.
