  • A wireless sensor network is a network in which nodes equipped with sensors capable of collecting data from the real world are configured wirelessly. Because the sensor nodes are configured wirelessly, they have limited power such as batteries. If the battery of the sensor node is exhausted, the node is no longer usable. If more than a certain number of nodes die, the network will not function. There are many wireless sensor network protocols to improve energy efficiency, among which LEACH Protocol is a typical example. The LEACH protocol is a cluster-based protocol that divides sensor space into clusters and transmits and receives data between nodes. Therefore, depending on how the cluster is structured, the shape of the energy cow may decrease or increase. We compare the network lifetimes of the existing LEACH protocols and the three types of protocols that have been improved using fuzzy methods for cluster selection.

  • Recently, LEE et al. proposed an attribute-based authenticated key agreement protocol over home network, which aimed to support authentication and key agreement between user and home server. However, if the home server is attacked in the protocol, the effects are influenced to the overall home network components severly. Thereby, this paper proposes a new ticket-based authentication protocol using user attributes between user and home devices to solve the problem. The proposed protocol supports the various levels of security to user by diversifying the network accessibility depending on user attribute. Thereby, the protocol could support more secure home network services.

  • Using the general switch management protocol on a multi-protocol label switching network, we present an efficient method for handling handovers. The proposed method directly changes an established path into a new path for supporting a handover. Our investigation reveals the effects of the proposed scheme and demonstrates that this method significantly reduces signaling costs and delays.

  • Wireless sensor network (WSN) is considered to be one of the most important research fields for ubiquitous healthcare (u-healthcare) applications. Healthcare systems combined with WSNs have only been introduced by several pioneering researchers. However, most researchers collect physiological data from medical nodes located at static locations and transmit them within a limited communication range between a base station and the medical nodes. In these healthcare systems, the network link can be easily broken owing to the movement of the object nodes. To overcome this issue, in this study, the fast link exchange minimum cost forwarding (FLE-MCF) routing protocol is proposed. This protocol allows real-time multi-hop communication in a healthcare system based on WSN. The protocol is designed for a multi-hop sensor network to rapidly restore the network link when it is broken. The performance of the proposed FLE-MCF protocol is compared with that of a modified minimum cost forwarding (MMCF) protocol. The FLE-MCF protocol shows a good packet delivery rate from/to a fast moving object in a WSN. The designed wearable platform utilizes an adaptive linear prediction filter to reduce the motion artifacts in the original electrocardiogram (ECG) signal. Two filter algorithms used for baseline drift removal are evaluated to check whether real-time execution is possible on our wearable platform. The experiment results shows that the ECG signal filtered by adaptive linear prediction filter recovers from the distorted ECG signal efficiently.

  • This paper describes an implementation of Home network Control Protocol(HnCP) and it's application to an Intelligent lighting system. The HnCP was announced by korea PLC forum in June 2003 to provide a network protocol for PLC based home appliances. The HnCP master and HnCP slaves were implemented using XPLC30 which is an SOC with ARM9 core. The efficacy of the developed HnCP network modules were shown by applying them to a intelligent lighting system composed of dimmable fluorescent lamps. An extended message set was proposed for the intelligent lighting system and we proposed some directions for the future development of HnCP.

  • This paper proposes a improved bitmap routing protocol, which finds the best energy efficient routing path by minimizing the network overheads and prolongs the overall network lifetime. Jung proposed a bitmap scheme for sensor networks. His scheme uses a bitmap table to represent the connection information between nodes. However, it has a problem that the table size is depends on the number of nodes in the sensor networks. The problem is very serious in the sensor node with a limited memory. Thereby, this paper proposes a improved bitmap routing protocol to solve the problem in Jung's scheme. Proposed protocol over the memory restricted sensor network could optimize the size of bitmap table by applying the deployed network property. Proposed protocol could be used in the diversity of sensor networks due to it has minimum memory overheads.

  • Distributed Network Protocol Version 3.0 (DNP3.0) is the communication protocol developed for the interoperability between a RTU and a central control station of SCADA in the power utility industry. In this paper DNP3.0 is implemented by using HDL with FPGA and C program on Hitachi H8/532 processor. DNP3.0 is implemented from physical layer to network layer in hardware level to reduce the computing load on a CPU. Finally, the ASIC for DNP3.0 has been manufactured from Hynix Semiconductor. The commercial feasibility of the hardware through the communication test with ASE2000 and DNP Master Simulator is performed. The developed protocol becomes one of IP, and can be used to implement SoC for the terminal device in SCADA systems. Also, the result can be applicable to various industrial controllers because it is implemented in HDL.

  • In this paper, we propose a lightweight mutual authentication protocol for secure and efficient home network service. Lee et al. recently proposed an attribute-base authentication key agreement protocol using public key in home network. Its protocol provided forward secrecy but don't diminish conspicious overhead of operation using ticket. Therefore the proposed protocol provided the security and efficiency using hash function and counter. Also it can provide secure home network service by check consumer electronics control level of users after created session key.
