We recorded the movement of wildbirds nine times at Hoam 1st Tunnel, Kkachisan Park, Deungneung pass to compare the movement between eco-corridor and neighboring crossing road from June to September, 2006. Among three areas, birds did not prefer the eco-corridor at pass type such as Kkachisan Park and Deungneung pass, however number of species and individuals were high at the eco-corridor at Hoam 1st Tunnel. Over 90m width and the slope location of eco-corridors can be beneficial for wild birds to enhance the movement along eco-corridors between isolated two patches. Average foliage volume under two meters showed the relation with bush nesters, and that from 7 to 8m had the highest relationship with canopy nesters. In Seoul city, target species should be considered at the construction of eco-corridors according to site characteristics, but Paradoxornis webbianus could be suggested as a main target species at eco-corridors. To enhance the movement of diverse wildbirds, we would implement that eco-corridors could be located at the slope area with the size of 1ha (over 90m width), eco-corridors could be planted and managed with the high foliage volume of shrub layer under twometers and canopy layer over 8 meters.
The rapid increase of wildlife passage installation since the late 2000s was aimed to reduce roadkill caused by habitat fragmentation and losses related to road construction, but wildlife-vehicle collisions are now still occurred even near the wildlife passage area. This is the reason that the effectiveness of wildlife passage have not been evaluated in combination with absence of monitoring data and management strategy of the wildlife passage. The AHP method are used, in this study, to identify the evaluation factors affecting the effectiveness of the present 367 wildlife passages in a mitigation measures to reduce road effects on wildlife species. Ten evaluation factors are derived from third levels in the AHP analysis. Priority setting to identify appropriate management strategies in first level is selected among four second levels on facility, environment, wildlife species and management tool. The AHP analysis suggested that neighboring environments are the most important factor at the second level, and passage structure, harmony with natural surroundings, wildlife occurrence and monitoring of the passage are also important factors at the third levels. In summary, effective measurements of wildlife passage management is based on managing the passage with neighboring topography and natural surrounding. This is useful to establish wildlife passage management strategy in order to reduce the negative effects of roads on wildlife species.
In this study, we developed a new algorithm which can construct model buildings used as a surface boundary in numerical models using GIS with latitudinal and longitudinal information of building vertices. The algorithm established the outer boundary of a building first, by finding segments passing neighboring two vertices of the building and connecting the segments. Then, the algorithm determined the region inside the outer boundary as the building. The new algorithm overcame the limit that the algorithm developed in the previous study had in constructing concave buildings. In addition, the new algorithm successfully constructed a building with complicated shape. To investigate effects of the modification in building shape caused by the building-construction algorithm on flows and pollutant dispersion around buildings, a computational fluid dynamics model was used and three kinds of building type were considered. In the downwind region, patterns in flow and pollutant dispersion were little affected by the modification in building shape caused. However, because of reduction in air space resulted from the building-shape modification, vortex structure was not resolved or smaller vortex was resolved near the buildings. The changes in flow pattern affected dispersion patterns of scalar pollutants emitted around the buildings.

Location of firms and construction of new industrial complex generally have an effect on the population change of region. This paper focuses on the population change of Gwangyang city, in particular, the relationship between location of new firm, Gwangyang Works of POSCO, and population change of region. The first construction of Gwangyang Works of POSCO was finished in 1987. The number of population of Gwangyang city increased from 78,478 individuals of 1981 to 138,468 individuals of 2001, and the number of household also increased from 14,917 household of 1981 to 43,176 household of 2001 with the location and construction process of Gwangyang Works of POSCO. The growth of population was greatly revealed during the period of 1987 through 1991 with social increase of pouplation transferred into Gwangyang city from another area. This period related with the completion of Gwangyang Works of POSCO. In addition, population increase was mainly appeared in Eastern Gwangyang area, neighboring area to Gwangyang Works 13,211 peoples of 1981 to 74,956 peoples of 2001. Therefore, it is clear that location of Gwangyang Works of POSCO had a significant impact on the change of population structure and population growth of Gwangyang city since 1981.
This paper examined the construction techniques of the earthen fortifications in the Hanseong Period of Baekje Kingdom, which has been researched most frequently among the Three Kingdoms. The construction processes of the Earthen Fortifications were reviewed and dividing into 'selection of location and construction of the base', 'construction of the wall', and 'finish, extension and repair'. The results show that various techniques were mobilized for building these earthen fortifications. Techniques which were adequate for the topography were utilized for reinforcing the base, and several other techniques were used for constructing the wall. In particular, techniques for wall construction may be clearly divided into those of the fill(盛土) and panchuk(版築) techniques. The fill method has been assumed since the 2000s to have been more efficient than the panchuk technique. This method never uses the structure of the panchuk technique and is characterized by a complex soil layer line, an alternate fill, use of 'earth mound(土堤)'/'clay clod(土塊)', and junctions of oval fill units. The fill method allows us to understand active technological sharing and application among the embankment structures in the period of the Three Kingdoms. The panchuk technique is used to construct a wall using a stamped earthen structure. This technique is divided into types B1 and B2 according to the height, scale, and extension method of the structure. Type B1 precedes B2, which was introduced in the late Hanseong Period. Staring with the Pungnap Earthen Fortification in Seoul, the panchuk technique seems to have spread throughout South Korea. The techniques of the fill and panchuk techniques coexisted at the time when they appeared, but panchuk earthen fortifications gradually dominated. Both techniques have completely different methods for the soil layers, and they have opposite orders of construction. Accordingly, it is assumed that both have different technical systems. The construction techniques of the earthen fortifications began from the Hanseong Period of Baekje Kingdom and were handed down and developed until the Woongjin-Sabi Periods. In the process, it seems that there existed active interactions with other nations. Recently, since studies of the earthen fortifications have been increasing mainly in the southern areas, it is expected that comparative analysis with neighboring countries will be done intensively.
A locally damaged structure is a structure that cannot be reused due to having parts that have lost their structural function as a result of abnormal load across the interior or exterior of the structure. The causes of the abnormal load occurrences can be classified into natural disaster and artificial disaster. Locally damaged structures caused by this abnormal load have risk factors that may lead to the possibility of additional secondary collapses, so such structures require immediate and complete dismantling. The case presented in this study involves the application of explosive demolition to a steel truss structured bridge in the Philippines that was damaged due to construction failures and the hurricane. Although shaped charges were needed in explosive demolitions, difficulties in locally obtaining such material. So, we made a charge container to charging of emulsion explosive during the explosive demolition. The explosive demolition resulted in the vertical free fall of the mid-section of the bridge and the free fall rotating of the both end section of the bridge. The neighboring posts and bridge piers did not show signs of damages, while post-demolition fragmentation of removed parts was found to be satisfactory.

The construction of foundation piles for buildings and bridges is changing from pile driving to an injected precast pile method. The goal is to minimize environmental damage, noise pollution, and complaints from neighboring residents. However, it is necessary to develop economic piles that are optimized for precasting by a centrifugal method in terms of both the material and structural system. A reinforced joint method is proposed for reinforced concrete piles (RC piles) manufactured by centrifugal casting. A previous study concluded that the structural performance of the current joint system for RC piles could be improved by using a reinforced joint composed of extended circular band plates and studs. In this study, the structural performance of such a joint was validated experimentally by bending and shear strength measurements. The proposed joint reinforcement method showed adequate structural performance in terms of bending and shear strength. The overall load-deflection behavior is close to that of a structure without joints, so it is expected that the behavior and performance of the design can be reliably reflected in site structures.

Unlike conventional roof landscaping, where various kinds of plants and structures are employed, a grass roof is a roof on which herbaceous plants are grown in planting medium and which is not accessed or maintained, mainly because it doesn't have sufficient load capacity to support a regular roof garden. They are mostly built on existing roofs, whether flat slab or gabled. Planting on roofs has numerous advantages, such as creating a biotope, purifying urban air, adding moisture to the atmosphere, storing rain water, preventing flash floods, reducing energy use for heating and air conditioning, enhancing the urban landscape and providing relaxation to the city dwellers, not to mention the alleviation of global warming by absorbing $CO_2$. In addition to the general merits of roof planting, the grass roof has its own unique qualities. Only herbaceous species are planted on the roof, resulting in light weight which allows roofs of existing buildings to be planted without structural reinforcement. The species chosen are mostly short, tough perennials that don't need to be maintained. These conditions provide an ideal situation where massive planting can be done in urban areas where roofs are often the only and definitely the largest space available to be planted. If roofs are planted on a massive scale they can play a significant role in alleviating global warming, heat island effects and energy shortages. Despite the advantages of grass roofs, there are some problems. The most significant problem is the invasion of neighboring plants. They may be brought in with the planting medium, by birds or by wind. These plants have little aesthetic value comparing to the chosen species and are usually taller. Eventually they dominate and prevail over the original species. The intended planting design disappears and the roof comes to look wild. Since the primary value of a grass roof is ecological, a change in attitude towards what constitutes beauty on the roofscape is necessary. Instead of keeping the roof neat through constant maintenance, people must learn that the wild grass with bird's nests on their roof is more beautiful as it is.
Korea's Rolling stock workshop were established with the introduction of a railway, and became the center of industrial construction in the modern age of Korea. There still exist a lot of Rolling stock workshop buildings in the Youngsan Rolling stock workshop, the representative case of Korean Rolling stock workshop, and especially the study aims to look into modern architectural properties centered on those well-preserved buildings. Korea's Rolling stock workshop were built considering the proper conditions of location such as the neighboring districts from the port to transport vehicles and materials, the place where railroad lines are centralized, the short returning distance of railroad cars for entry and departure, and had the facility layout according to the order of a working process of vehicles, and the unique structure and the section facade shape with proper functions and sizes according to each purpose. In particular, they actively adopted steel-frame structure and reinforced concrete structure, and came to have the initial characteristics of Korea's modern industrial building which is called the structural transition. Therefore, this study aims to highlight the importance of Rolling stock workshop including the Youngsan Rolling stock workshop as industrial architecture heritage in the modern age of Korea.

Housing Re-Development business is to improve the environment of old residential area and secure insufficient infrastructure facilities for the public, and to provide housing of fine quality for the individuals and it is taken as an opportunity for the individuals to be able to increase their property. However, it is true that the benefits from the redevelopment has not offered to the original dwellers who has lived there for a long time. This research studies the related systems of the Rental House Redevelopment Supply Service and is to present the schema to raise resettlement rate through the investment on the rate of tenants who chose the rental house and their specific characters. This study is to present the reform measures about the following 3 problems, on the basis of prior theoretical studies which deals with the common factors having low rate to move in the rental house of the tenants. (1) Physical side, the problem of supply structure, which is not appropriate Housing Supply Structure, (2) Psychological side, the problem of socially excluded rental house residents (3) Economical side, low re-settlement rate of tenants caused from the unreasonableness of the estimated rental value. This study presents that the compulsory rental housing supply rate should be changed to the gross area not from the number of households, and the supply of rental houses should correspond to the household size of tenants through prior demand survey. Secondly, it proposes the housing complex layout for intermixing to solve the social problems to allow a housing for sale and rental houses mixing in a building. And it proposes that the rental value should be calculated considering the neighboring value and in the long run, it should be calculated considering the tenants' income instead construction cost estimate. Also, it should be arranged to provide an opportunity to create income through resident welfare center improvement and provide self-sufficiency functions leading residents to participate in the residential area's repairing and maintenances.
