  • This study examines the Singapore public housing supplied by Singapore Improvement Trust (SIT) in the 1950s. Focused on the Princess Elizabeth estate and Princess estate of Queenstown, this study surveys their construction backgrounds, site plans, unit plans, architectural designs and meanings. The Princess Elizabeth estate was the model estate for workmen's flats. This estate showed mixed blocks of flats arranged around a large quadrangled open space for children. The Princess estate was a neighborhood of Queenstown, Singapore's the first new town. At this Estate, there were some new architectural occurrences departing from the Tiong Bahru Estate. Those are the appearance of high-rise typology, and the increased specificity in the functions of open spaces. Thus the open space became to get hierarchy, and divided an estate to small neighborhood units. For the SIT, open space is synonymous with the improvement of urban environment. Through the purposeful creation of open space, the SIT intended to solve the problem of sanitation and to make a neighborhood unit which can be pleasant place for regional community.

  • The existing urban open space system of the German cities has an exellent frame, which is a result of the long history of its developing. The beginning time of that goes back to the end of the 18th century, as pri-vate gardens of feudal lords and the nobility became more and more public and public open space plannedwas appearing. Through the change from the feudal age to the civil society, the people's values on the urbanopenspace were growing. so that it had more social meanings. Since the Industrial Revolution in the secondhalf of the 19th century the environment of cities was getting miserable, what was the important cause ofthe birth of ideas and concepts of the urban open space type and its system. The fo1lowing concepts are they. which have influenced modern open space concepts of the cities InGermany decisively :'Garden Cities'.'Neighborhood'. • In this paper, we show a necessary and sufficient condition for QHC spaces to be S-closed. T. Thomson introduced S-closed spaces in [2]. A topological space X is said to be S-closed if every semi-open cover of X admits a finite subfamily such that the closures of whose members cover the space, where a set A is semi-open if and only if there exists an open set U such that U.contnd.A.contnd.Cl U. A topological space X is quasi-H-closed (denote QHC) if every open cover has a finite subfamily whose closures cover the space. If a topological space X is Hausdorff and QHC, then X is H-closed. It is obvious that every S-closed space is QHC but the converse is not true [2]. In [1], Cameron proved that an extremally disconnected QHC space is S-closed. But S-closed spaces are not necessarily extremally disconnected. Therefore we want to find a necessary and sufficient condition for QHC spaces to be S-closed. A topological space X is said to be semi-locally S-closed if each point of X has a S-closed open neighborhood. Of course, a locally S-closed space is semi-locally S-closed.

  • We explore what factors influence the residential choice and mobility of people, and try to figure out the preferable residential district in Deagu. Household, housing characteristics, and neighborhood environments are considered as explanatory variables to predict the residential choice and the preferable residential district, and logit regression is used for the analysis. We found age, ownership, income, property, and education level as household characteristics, building age as housing characteristics, and accessibility to park and open space, public library and shopping mall as neighborhood environments are significant in determining residential choice of people whereas housing size, accessibility to elementary school, local market, cultural facility and gymnasium are not significant. These results imply people choose the residential district according to household characteristics as they did, as well as choose according to housing characteristics and neighborhood environments which are newly issued factors.

  • Abstract. In this paper, we investigate the relationships between the space X and the hyperspace C(X) concerning admissibility and connectedness im kleinen. The following results are obtained: Let X be a Hausdorff continuum, and let A ∈ C(X). (1) If for each open set U containing A there is a continuum K and a neighborhood V of a point of A such that V ⊂ IntK ⊂ K ⊂ U, then C(X) is connected im kleinen. at A. (2) If IntA ≠ ø, then for each open set U containing A there is a continuum K and a neighborhood V of a point of A such that V ⊂ IntK ⊂ K ⊂ U. (3) If X is connected im kleinen. at A, then A is admissible. (4) If A is admissible, then for any open subset U of C(X) containing A, there is an open subset V of X such that A ⊂ V ⊂ ∪U. (5) If for any open subset U of C(X) containing A, there is a subcontinuum K of X such that A ∈ IntK ⊂ K ⊂ U and there is an open subset V of X such that A ⊂ V ⊂ ∪ IntK, then A is admissible.

  • Due to the changes in the contemporary society, small-scale traditional markets have declined and lost their functions as the center of neighborhood commercial and cultural affairs. While most traditional markets are deteriorating, there exist rare cases of neighborhood small-scale traditional markets that continuously maintain their vitality and popularity. This paper examines urban spatial characteristics of those markets. As for the cases, this paper inventoried eighteen such markets in Gwanak-gu, Seoul. The research methods include literature reviews, on-site investigation of total 18 such markets, and participant observations. The findings of this paper are as follows: There are distinctive differences in the urban-spatial characteristics of physical environmental factors between the revitalized markets and declining markets. In terms of neighborhood and commercial environment, the franchised super-markets are not necessarily in competition with small-scale traditional markets. The former often has symbiotic relationship the latter, if the small scale traditional markets are strategically located in between residential areas and subway stations, providing active pedestrian networks. There are many outdoor display stands in the revitalized markets, while the declining markets rarely have them. The market improvement projects such as transforming the open space into arcade space, hardly have effects on revitalization of the small-scale traditional markets.

  • This paper is to propose a design possibility that incorporates participatory process and also to emphasize the participatory process applied to the planning of outdoor playground space open to the neighboring community. Community design based on the participation method can be understood as an attitude about a force for change in the creation and management of environments for people who are the major users of them. Planning for outdoor space is an integral part of school education and a vital component of child development. For the design of outdoor space of Samyang Elementary School it first needs to examine the current and emerging needs of students, teachers and parents as community residents through the participatory design method. A series of workshops and interviews are taken to identify dreams and ideal spaces of each group. An assessment of existing school spaces and design possibility of reprogrammed outdoor spaces are proposed to match the major demands of participants. Selected outdoor places are chosen and designed to accommodate options for various play settings and to make the school pleasant places where members of the neighborhood can gather for relaxation in restful surroundings.

  • We studied new notions of analogues of topological rings. Salih [10] acquaints us with the notion of irresolute topological ring in 2018. In this paper, we further studied the space closely and characterized indispensable properties of the space. We prove that every open subset of an irresolute topological ring is irresolute topological ring. We also obtained the equivalent condition of neighborhood of an element in an irresolute topological ring. It is proved that ring homeomorphism of an irresolute topological ring is irresolute if it is irresolute at identity element e in the irresolute topological ring 𝓡.
