  • Ultraviolet spectrophotometric investigations were carried out on monoalkylbenzene-iodine systems in carbon tetrachloride. The results reveal the formation of one-to-one molecular complexes. On the basis of the equilibrium constants for these complexes of representative monosubstituted benzenes, the following order of increasing stability is obtained: i-propyl- ${\Delta}$H, ${\Delta}$G and ${\Delta}$S for the interaction of a number of monoalkyl substituted benzenes with iodine have been determined. In general, it can be said that as ${\Delta}$H becomes increasingly negative, corresponding decreases in the ${\Delta}$G and the ${\Delta}$S values are observed, and these variations are linear. The thermodynamic constants become increasingly negative with increasing monoalkyl substitution of the aromatic donor nucleus. The complex bond is therefore weak, and its formation is accompanied by relatively small entropy changes. Thus, analysis of these findings is discussed.

  • Ultraviolet spectrophotometric investigations have been carried out the systems of monoalkylbenzene with iodine in carbon tetrachloride. The results reveal the formation of one to one molecular complexes. The equilibrium constants for these complexes of representative monosubstituted benzene reveal the following order of increasing stability: benzene < methyl- < ethyl- < n-propyl-benzene. The value of ${\Delta}H$, ${\Delta}G$, and ${\Delta}S$ for interaction of a number of monoalkyl substituted benzene with iodine has been determinated. In general, as ΛH becomes increasingly negative, corresponding decreases in ${\Delta}G$ and ${\Delta}S$ values are observed, and these variation are linear. The thermodynamic constants become increasingly negative with increasing monoalkyl substitution of the aromatic donor nucleus. The complex bond is therefore weak, and its formation is accompanied by relatively small entropy changes.

  • This study examined the influence of ESG performance on the firm value of Chinese equipment manufacturing companies over the period from 2011 to 2020. The analysis indicated that while ESG performance exerted a negative influence on firm value, this impact was not statistically significant. These findings substantiate the Institutional Difference Hypothesis (IDH), which posits that country-specfic institutional variations sifnificantly shape the strategic decision-making of organizations. When disaggregating the three components of ESG, variations in the results were observed both for overall ESG performance and for each individual dimension. Of the three dimension elements, the environmental (E) and governance (G) facets had a negative bearing, whereas the social (S) facet had a positive influence. Notably, only the governance dimension (G) demonstrated a statistically significant influence. These outcomes affirm the institutional difference hypothesis, illustrating divergent results across distint ESG dimensions.

  • Purpose : Sepsis is a common complication in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU), seen especially in low birth weight (LBW) infants. A recent study showed that fungal or gram-negative sepsis is associated with a greater degree of thrombocytopenia than is seen with gram-positive sepsis. So, this study was undertaken to examine the platelet counts and platelet indices in LBW infants during episodes of sepsis. Methods : We analyzed 36 cases with culture-proven sepsis on chart review in LBW infants admitted to the NICU at Wonkwang University Hospital from January 2001 to June 2006. Results : Patients were grouped by organism type: gram-positive bacteria ($1,521{\pm}309g$, $31.3{\pm}2.9wk$, 15/36), gram-negative bacteria ($1,467{\pm}290g,\;30.6{\pm}3.6wk$, 17/36), and fungi ($1,287{\pm}205g,\;30.0{\pm}3.9wk$, 4/36). The most common organism was Staphylococcus epidermis and the incidence of thrombocytopenia was 88.9%. When compared with infants with gram-positive sepsis, those with gram-negative sepsis had significantly higher incidences of thrombocytopenia, lower initial platelet count, lower platelet nadir, and greater mean percentage decrease in platelet count from before the onset of sepsis. Those with fungal infections were similar to gram-negative sepsis, but they were not significant because of the small number of patients. And mean platelet volume (MPV) in sepsis was increased more significantly in time of platelet nadir than before the onset of sepsis. Conclusion : We conclude that decrease in platelet count was significantly greater in gram-negative sepsis than gram-positive sepsis, and also greater than fungal sepsis-which was insignificant because of the small number of patients-in LBW infants. And elevation in MPV will be helpful in the diagnosis and treatment of sepsis in LBW infants.

  • Using the concept of closed queueing network, we present a consistent way of interpreting existing duality relations among queueing systems. Also, using embedded Markov chains, we present a few new duality relations for the queueing systems with negative customers.

  • In this paper, multivariate discrete distribution is dealt with, where a set of r distinct counts are misreported as another set of r counts. First, the variance for the one variable marginal case is expressed in the form of an inverted parabola. Next, for the multivariate negative binomial case, elements of the covariance matrix are evaluated with reference to asymptotic distributions. Finally, for the same case of multivariate negative binomial, Bayesian estimates of the parameters and of the modification rates are provided.

  • Objectives: This study aims to examine the concentration, diversity, and antibiotic characteristics of penicillin G resistant enterobacteria present in pharmaceutical effluent. Methods: Water sampling was performed from a pharmaceutical company in Gyeonggi-do Province, Korea in March 2015. Water samples were plated in triplicate on tryptic soy agar plates with 32 mg/L of penicillin G. Penicillin G resistant enterobacteria were selected from the effluent and were subjected to 16S rRNA analysis for penicillin G resistant species determination. Identified resistant strains were tested for resistance to various antibiotics. Results: Penicillin G resistant enterobacteria were present at 6.2% as to culturable heterotrophic bacteria. Identified penicillin G resistant enterobacteria exhibited resistance to more than 10 of the antibiotics studied. These resistant bacteria are gram negative and are closely related to pathogenic species. Conclusion: Multi-antibiotic resistant bacteria in the effluent suggest a need for disinfection and advanced oxidation processes for pharmaceutical effluents.

  • To investigate the hypoglycemic effect of the submerged culture of the Ceriporia lacerata mycelium (CL01) species, in-vitro and in-vivo tests were executed using INS-1 and 3T3-L1 cells, normal and diabetic mice. CL01 exhibited an inhibitory effect on cell death through dexamethasone in the INS-1 cells, and increased the GLUT4 expression in the 3T3-L1 cells. A hematological monitoring test was executed using diabetic mice divided into four groups : normal control (G1), negative control (G2), positive control (G3), and CL01 250 mg/kg (G4) groups, which were fed daily for 6 weeks. The body weight gain, food intake, and water intake of G4 were not significantly different from those of G2. After 5 weeks, the blood glucose levels of G4 were significantly different from those of G2. After 6 weeks, the plasma insulin levels of G4 increased by about 36% compared to those of G2, and the plasma C-peptide levels of G4 were lower by about 18%. than those of G3. The results of the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) showed that CL01 lessened the blood glucose levels of G4 by 15% compared to G2. It was concluded that CL01 stimulates the proliferation of beta cells and promotes insulin secretion and may thus have a potential in improving the hypoglycemic effects among the diabetic symptoms.

  • The field utilization factor (equation omitted) (the mean electric field / the maximum electric field) of standard sphere gaps was calculated by the charge simulation method, taking into account the ground plane and shanks. n changes mainly with g/r and slightly with 1$_1$, 1$_2$ and 1, where D=2r is the sphere diameter, g is the gap length, 1$_1$ and 1$_2$, respectively, are the lengths of the upper and lower shank, and t is the shank diameter. Generally, (equation omitted) increases as 1$_1$,1$_2$ and t each becomes larger. IEC standard 60052(2002) limits t$\leq$0.2D 1$_1$$\geq$1D and prescribes A=1$_2$+D+g where A is the height of the spark point on the upper sphere. Therefore, (equation omitted) is the largest when A=9D and the smallest when A=3D. The simple equation of a straight line, (equation omitted)=1- (g/3r), can generally be used as a representative value of (equation omitted) for a wide variety of sphere diameters that are permitted by the IEC standard. The maximum electric field E$_{m}$ at sparkover of standard air gaps has also been calculated by the relation E$_{m}$=V/(equation omitted)g). E$_{m}$ describes a U-curve for g/r, up to the sphere diameter of 1 m. Moreover, for 1.5-m and 2-m diameters and especially .for negative polarity, sparkover voltages have been calculated by integration of the ionization index.index.

  • A kinetic study is reported for aminolysis of S-4-nitrophenyl X-substituted thiobenzoates 3a-g in 80 mol % $H_2O$/20 mol % DMSO at $25.0{\pm}0.1^{\circ}C$. Thiol esters 3a-g are 7.8-47.6 fold more reactive than the corresponding oxygen esters (i.e., 4-nitrophenyl X-substituted benzoates 1a-g). Such reactivity order appears to be in accordance with the expectation that 4-nitrothiophenoxide in 3a-g is a better nucleofuge than 4-nitrophenoxide in 1a-g since the former is 2.64 pKa units less basic than the latter. Hammett plot for the reactions of 3a-g exhibit poor correlation coefficients ($R^2$ = 0.977-0.986) with negative deviation by substrates possessing an electrondonating group (EDG), while the Yukawa-Tsuno plots result in excellent linear correlation ($R^2$ = 0.995-0.997) with ${\rho}$ = 0.93-1.23 and r = 0.57-0.67, indicating that the negative deviation shown by substrates possessing an EDG is caused by ground-state stabilization through resonance interactions but not due to a change in ratedetermining step upon changing the nonleaving-group substituent X. The ${\rho}$ value increases as the incoming amine becomes more basic and more reactive, indicating that the RSP is not operative in the current reactions.
