  • Objectives : Cupping therapy is a stimulation therapy similar to acupuncture and moxibustion with effects that differ depending on the degree of stimulus. To make the strength of the skin objective in cupping therapy for this study, we measured negative pressure in the cupping jar and calculated the expansion rate of the skin. Subjects and Methods : In this study, we experimented with cupping therapy jars made for sale and used in clinics. We studied the pressure in the jars and the changes on the skin surface by measuring properties. We used commercial jars of four different volumes and diameters and tried to discover the properties on the size of the jar. Results : The results of experiment with the cupping therapy are as follows: 1. The lowest pressure in a jar was measured at $-600{\sim}610mmHg$, and the number of operating of vacuum pump for reaching lowest pressure was increased recording where the volume of the jar would be big, but the lowest pressure was not increased recording where the size of that would be big. 2. As the vacuum pump continued to operate, the pressure gradient in the jar got smaller which shows that the expansion rate of the skin was not linear. The pressure gradient shows different operational numbers on the vacuum pump near 0mmHg/operation unrelated to jar volume. 3. When negative pressure worked on the jar, air in the jar decreased. The percentage of air gradually reduced as the negative pressure acted in the jar. For example, the percentage of skin was 37-66% when the negative pressure, reatched -500mmHg. According to out results, different test areas generate different percentages of air in the jar, presumably related to skin elasticity. This phenomenon was most pronounced with the smallest jars. 4. At -500mmHg, the expansion rate of the skin was 1.57-1.9 on the abdomen, and $1.52{\sim}1.68$ on the back. The expansion rate of the skin appeared greater when the jar was relatively small, and it appeared smaller when the jar volume was relatively large relatively.

  • The lubricating characteristics of negative pressure slider were performed by using divergence formulation method with the coordinate transformation method. This method makes it possible to deal with an arbitrary configuration of a lubricated surface. The pressure profile of the slider is calculated. These results are compared to that from direct numerical method. The steady-state, including minimum film thickness, pitching and rolling angle are calculated by multi-dimensional Newton-Rapson method. The stiffness and damping characteristics are also calculated.

  • Since most soils exist above the ground water table, negative pore pressure exist in unsaturated soils. Negative pore water pressure in unsaturated soil affects the soil structure and degree of saturation and it is important for accurate evaluation of unsaturate flow and behavior. This negative pore pressure is called a matric suction which causes an increased shear strength. Therefore, it is required that the effect of increase in the shear strength should be included in a geotechnical analysis. From the test result, the influence of net confining pressure and matric suction on the shear strength was analyzed and strength parameter was increased with matric suction increase and a unliner relationship was found to relate matric suction and shear strength.

  • External social support for family can be an important resource for families to overcome economic pressure, and can be a way to understand the concept and process of family resilience in the context of Korean economic crisis. To explore the role of external social support that alleviates the negative effects of economic pressure on marital satisfaction, the buffering effects were tested in two ways. First, the interaction effect between external social support and economic pressure on marital satisfaction was tested using hierarchical linear regression model. Second, the scores of marital satisfaction were plotted by the median scores of economic pressure and external social support. Results from the analyses of 191 couples (382 husbands and wives) indicated that external social support help families by buffering the negative effects of economic pressure on marital satisfaction by interacting with economic pressure.

  • Purpose: As infectious diseases spread, hospitals have converted general wards into negative pressure isolation wards through remodeling. During the conversion process, there were limitations in converting the existing ward into an effective isolation ward due to its existing structure and mechanical system. To minimize these problems, this study proposes some general ward planning methods taking into account effective conversion to an infectious disease ward. Methods: Seven rapid conversion isolation wards have been analyzed in order to check their appropriateness as a negative pressured isolation unit. Then, general ward design planning methods that can minimize problems in rapidly converted negative pressured wards have been derived. Results: If general wards can be efficiently converted into negative pressure isolation wards, many isolation facilities can be secured effectively in a short period of time during a pandemic.

  • The appearance of the negative differential pressure(NDP), in which the shot base pressure is higher than the breech pressure, indicates that a potential damage on the gun system is increased. In order to safeguard the gun system, the igniter must be designed to minimize the NDP during the firing process. From this reason, the effect of igniter's burning rate on the NDP of the interior ballistics has been investigated through the numerical simulations. The NDP has been increased with increment of the coefficient in the burning rate of the igniter. A sudden change of the chamber pressure has been shown in case of using a singular coefficient.

  • Pipeline is making the most use of transportation of petroleum products on the land. But due to tremendous accident or environmental disaster by oil pipeline leak or pipeline stolen, leak detection systems have been used for preventing it. Leak detection method based on negative pressure wave has been used at the long distance pipeline. But even if it has showed good leak detection quality, due to making a lot of false alarm, it has weak point that disturbs concentration to system. This study suggests algorithm and method of using volume balance to decrease false-alarm of pipeline leak detection system based on negative pressure wave.

  • The purpose of this Review is to help activities of daily living by normalizing bodily functions through the use of negative pressure. Cupping therapy has been holding the important role as a form of treatment in ancient medicine of Oriental and Occidental country, and still being used widely due to it's effectiveness. Principle of Cupping therapy is to neutralize somatic dysfunctions by elimination of nonphysiological somatic fluid of hematoma through application of negative pressure on region of dermatomal meridian. The effectiveness of Cupping therapy as follows; 1) Effects on acid base balance of bodily fluid. 2) Through the reabsorption of subcutaneous hematoma, it affects on formation of immune system and produce the blood serum cleaning reaction. 3) By application of negative pressure on subcutaneous, induce renal system to produce steroid hormone. 4) By stimulating hemopoietic system, it maxmize the blood production level. Recently, Alternative medicine has been a focus due to it's nature of effectiveness and safety without adverse complication. Therefore, every family possess and use the cupping modality for preventive measure and/or treatment purpose in order to eliminate accumulated byproducts of body and clean the blood system.

  • Objectives : The less invasive stereotactic surgery of hypertensive intracerebral hematoma has been preferred. Many techniques were developed to facilitate aspiration of a dense blood clot in acute stage. Authors describe a method for evacuation of putaminal hematoma via computerized tomography(CT)-aided free-hand stereotactic infusion of urokinase and frequent negative pressure aspiration. Patients and Methods : A total of ten patients with spontaneous putaminal hematoma underwent surgery with negative pressure aspiration in the three-year period. All procedures were performed within 12 hours of insult. A silicone ventricular catheter was inserted into the center of hematoma through a burr hole at the Kocher's point under local anesthesia. In a typical case of putaminal hematoma, the trajectory of catheter was pointed the center of hematoma parallel to sagittal plane vertically and the external auditory meatus posteriorly. Immediately after the first trial of hematoma aspiration low-dose urokinase solution(2,000IU/5ml saline) was administrated through the catheter and drain was clipped for 30 minutes. Subsequently, the partially liquified hematoma was manually aspirated using a 10ml syringe with a negative pressure of less than 2 to 3ml. The procedure was carefully repeated every 1 hour until the hematoma was near totally evacuated. Results : The patients population consisted composed of 4 men and 6 women with a mean age of 61.6 years. All had major neurological deficits preoperatively. The mean hematoma volume was 44.3 ml and hematoma was drained for 20 to 48 hours. No complications such as rebleeding, meningitis, or malplaced catheter were noted. Outcome was moderately disabled in four patients and good recovery in three patients. Conclusion : Although the frequent negative pressure aspiration and low-dose urokinase infusion has the disadvantage of possbility of rebleeding and infection, it is consisdered to be an effective method because it allows a simple, safe, and complete removal of hematoma.

  • Negative ion generation in an inductively coupled oxygen plasma was investigated by using a Langmuir probe. It was observed that the probe current ratio of the positive ion saturation current and the negative current which is consisted of the electron current and the negative ion current, and also the potential difference between the floating potential and plasma potential vary with the RF input power and more sensitively with the operating pressure, respectively. Results show that the operating condition to achieve the maximum probe current ratio and the minimum potential difference shift from the low pressure region to the high pressure regions with increasing the input power. It implies that the generation of the negative oxygen ions increases and the recombination of the positive and negative ions are enhanced in the plasma.
