Interconversion of Electronic Spin State of p-Substituted Arylketocarbene Reactions

  • Rate constants for photolytic reactions of p-substituted 2-diazopropiophenones were determined in acetonitrile. The reactions show a comparatively low value of activation energy and activation enthalpy to alkylcarbenes or other arylcarbenes. The transition state corresponds to the step of a new carbonyl bond formation. The high negative ρ -values are shown in Hammett plots. The kinetics results and EPR spectrum are in accord with a phenomenon that occurs in interconversion between singlet and triplet carbenes.

  • To interpret the dyeing behavior of PTT fiber with C. I. Disperse Violet 1, the thermodynamic Parameters of dyeing, such as standard affinity, heat of dyeing(enthalpy change), entropy change, diffusion coefficient, and activation energy of diffusion, were obtained from isotherms and dyeing rates at various temperatures and compared with those of PET fiber. The heat of dyeing(enthalpy change) and the entropy change of PTT fiber showed smaller negative values than those of PET fiber. This means that the dye molecules in the PTT fiber are combined more loosely than in the PET fiber and that is due to the flexibility of polymer chains of PTT fiber. The diffusion coefficients of C. I. Disperse Violet 1 into the PTT fiber were larger than those for PET fiber, and the activation energy of diffusion on PTT fiber was smaller than that on PET fiber.

Cis-Trans Isomerization of Dimeric $[Me_2Al(μ-NH^tBu)]_2$

  • The trans (2a)-cis (2b) isomerization of [Me2Al(μ-NHtBu)]2 (2) has been studied by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The equilibrium has been observed to follow reversible first order kinetics with ΔH0=2.22±0.07 kJmol-1 and ΔS0=2.85±0.07 JK-1mol-1. The activation parameters for the conversion 2a→2b are ΔH1=49.7±2.3 kJmol-1 and ΔS1=-126.3±0.2 JK-1mo1-1 and for the reverse reaction 2b→2a are ΔH-1=47.5±2.3 kJmol-1 and ΔS-1=-129.1±0.5 JK-1mol-1. The isomerization is markedly accelerated in the presence of Lewis bases. A crossover experiment indicates that the isomer interconversion is a unimolecular process. The large negative entropies of activation suggest either the existence of a sterically congested intermediate or the participation of solvent in the isomerization process.

Mechanistic Studies of the Solvolyses of Cyclohexanesulfonyl Chloride

  • In this study, the solvolysis of cyclohexanesulfonyl chloride (1) was studied by kinetics in ethanol-water, methanol-water, acetone-water, and 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFE)-water binary solvent systems. The rate constants were applied to the extended Grunwald-Winstein equation, to obtain the values of m = 0.41 and l = 0.81. These values suggested $S_N2$ mechanism in which bond formation is more important than bond breaking in the transition state (TS). Relatively small activation enthalpy values (11.6 to $14.8kcal{\cdot}mol^{-1}$), the large negative activation entropy values (-29.7 to $-38.7cal{\cdot}mol^{-1}{\cdot}K^{-1}$) and the solvent kinetic isotope effects (SKIE, 2.29, 2.30), the solvolyses of the cyclohexanesulfonyl chloride (1) proceeds via the $S_N2$ mechanism.

Kaurenoic acid, a natural substance from traditional herbal medicine, alleviates palmitate induced hepatic lipid accumulation via Nrf2 activation

  • Objectives: This study was done to look into whether Nrf2 take some role in the anti-lipogenic effect of kaurenoic acid in a nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) cellular model. Materials and Methods: We measured the effect of kaurenoic acid on intracellular steatosis and Nrf2 activation. Next, the effect of kaurenoic acid on SREBP-1c and some lipogenic genes in palmitate treated HepG2 cells with or without Nrf2 silencing. Results: The increased SREBP-1c expression was significantly decreased by concomitant kaurenoic acid treatment in non-targeting negative control siRNA transfected HepG2 cells. However, kaurenoic acid did not significantly inhibited increased SREBP-1c level in Nrf2 specific siRNA transfected HepG2 cells Conclusions: Kaurenoic acid has a potential to activate Nrf2, which may suppress SREBP-1c mediated intracellular steatosis in HepG2 cells.

Toxicity Evaluation of a Non-Pain Pharmacopuncture Extract Using a Bacterial Reverse Mutation Test

  • Objectives: The objective of this study was to assess the genotoxicity of a no-pain pharmacopuncture (NPP) extract developed in 2022 using a bacterial reverse mutation assay, aiming to further substantiate the safety profile of NPP. Methods: The genotoxicity evaluation involved a bacterial reverse mutation assay to assess the mutagenic potential of NPP extracts with and without metabolic activation. Histidine-requiring Salmonella typhimurium strains (TA98, TA100, TA1535, and TA1537) and tryptophan-requiring Escherichia coli strains (WP2uvrA) were used in the assay. Results: The NPP extract did not induce a revertant colony count exceeding two times that of the negative control at any dose level in any of the tested strains, both with and without metabolic activation. Additionally, no growth inhibition or precipitation was observed in the presence of NPP. Conclusion: Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the NPP extract exhibited no mutagenic potential in the in vitro genotoxicity tests conducted.

RNF43 and ZNRF3 in Wnt Signaling - A Master Regulator at the Membrane

  • The Wnt 𝛽-catenin signaling pathway is a highly conserved mechanism that plays a critical role from embryonic development and adult stem cell homeostasis. However, dysregulation of the Wnt pathway has been implicated in various diseases, including cancer. Therefore, multiple layers of regulatory mechanisms tightly control the activation and suppression of the Wnt signal. The E3 ubiquitin ligases RNF43 and ZNRF3, which are known negative regulators of the Wnt pathway, are critical component of Wnt signaling regulation. These E3 ubiquitin ligases control Wnt signaling by targeting the Wnt receptor Frizzled to induce ubiquitination-mediated endo-lysosomal degradation, thus controlling the activation of the Wnt signaling pathway. We also discuss the regulatory mechanisms, interactors, and evolution of RNF43 and ZNRF3. This review article summarizes recent findings on RNF43 and ZNRF3 and their potential implications for the development of therapeutic strategies to target the Wnt signaling pathway in various diseases, including cancer.

  • Objectives : Posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD) has been primarily associated with emotional problems. Recently, however, the impact of PTSD on cognitive processes has interested a growing number of researchers. The current study is aimed at investigating the cognitive aspects of PTSD at both behavioral and neurological levels. Methods : We recruited individuals with PTSD who survived the Daegu subway explosion in 2003 as well as non-PTSD individuals as a control group. To evaluate the inhibitory processes and the neural mechanisms, we had these individuals perform the negative priming task simultaneously with functional MRI scanning. Results : Behaviorally, the negative priming effect was intact in the control group but was not evident in the PTSD group. In the imaging results, only the PTSD group showed the negative priming effect (i.e., increased activation of the negative priming condition as opposed to the neutral condition) in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, anterior cingulate cortex, and inferior temporal gyrus. The PTSD group also showed increased activity for the positive priming condition as opposed to the neutral condition in the claustrum. These results confirm and extend the previous findings that the integrity of the ACC is compromised in the trauma survivors due to disrupted white matter tract. Conclusions : The current results suggest that deteriorated performance of the PTSD group may be due to the functional problem as well as the structural abnormalities.

시선추적 장치를 활용한 부정적 감정표현 이모티콘의 시각적 주의집중도 분석 (Analysis of Visual Attention in Negative Emotional Expression Emoticons using Eye-Tracking Device)

  • Currently, the development and sale of various emoticons has given users a wider range of choices, but a systematic and specific approach to the recognition and use of emoticons by actual users is lacking. Therefore, this study tried to investigate the subjective perception and visual attention concentration of actual users on negative emotional expression emoticons through a survey and eye tracking experiment. First, as a result of subjective recognition analysis, it was found that emoticons are frequently used because their appearance is important, and they can express various emotions in a fun and interesting way. In particular, it was found that emoticons that express negative emotions are often used because they can indirectly express negative emotions through various and concretely expressed visual elements. Next, as a result of the eye tracking experiment, it was found that the negative emotional expression emoticons focused on the large elements that visually emphasized or emphasized the emotional expression elements, and it was found that the focus was not only on the facial expression but also on the physical behavioral responses and language of expression of emotions. These results will be used as basic data to understand users' perceptions and utilization of the diversified emoticons. In addition, for the long-term growth and activation of the emoticon industry market in the future, continuous research should be conducted to understand the various emotions of real users and to develop differentiated emoticons that can maximize the empathy effect appropriate to the situation.

목질(木質) 어항(漁港) 폐기물(廢棄物)을 원료(原料)로 한 황산(黃酸)에 의한 활성탄(活性炭) 제조(製造) (Production of Activated Carbon from Woody Fishing Port Wastes Using Sulfuric Acid as Activating Agent)

  • 해양에서 발생하는 목질 폐기물의 재활용 방안의 일환으로 폐 어류 상자를 원료로 활성탄을 제조하는 방안을 검토하였다. 폐 황산을 활성화제로 하여 온도에 따른 활성탄의 흡착능의 변화를 검토한 결과 실험조건에서 $650^{\circ}C$부근에서 최대의 흡착능이 관찰되었으며 이보다 온도가 상승할 경우 열적 분해로 인해 흡착능이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 활성시간은 약 120분 정도가 적절한 것으로 파악되었으며 $550^{\circ}C$ 및 60분의 활성화 조건에서 원료 물질과 활성화제의 무게비가 1:3의 조건일 때 최대 흡착능이 관찰되었다. 활성화 조건은 황산의 농도가 1.2M일 때 최적인 것으로 조사되었으며 활성화제의 종류에 따른 활성능을 비교한 결과 황산은 질산에 비해 활성탄의 흡착능면에 있어서는 그 효과가 더욱 큰 것으로 파악되었으나 수율에 미치는 영향은 두 경우 뚜렷한 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 제조된 활성탄은 중성 영역에서 분산도가 높은 것으로 관찰되었으며 전 pH 영역에 걸쳐 음의 전하를 띠는 것으로 파악되어 금속 이온 함유 폐수에 효과적인 흡착제로 사용될 수 있을 것으로 사료되었다.
