  • Recently, a digital divide has gotten worse in the information age. So LG Sangnam library developed the ubiquitous library for the improvement of information accessability of the blind. It utilizes a mobile phone applied with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology and automates a user's identification process and serve library services at anytime from anywhere. Users can use three access points of a web service, a mobile service and a telephone library service. As a conclusion of this paper. Several recommendations were proposed. For the development of ubiquitous library, various instruments should be considered to diversify user's access points and a usability test and analysis about user's environmental context should be done simultaneously.

  • Piles are widely used in structural foundations of engineering projects. However, the deformation of the soil around the pile caused by driving process has an adverse effect on adjacent existing underground buildings. Many previous studies have addressed related problems in sand and saturated clay. Nevertheless, the failure mechanism of pile driving in unsaturated soil remains scarcely reported, and this issue needs to be studied. In this study, a modeling test system based on particle image velocimetry (PIV) was developed for studying deformation characteristics of pile driving in unsaturated silt with different water contents. Meanwhile, a series of direct shear tests and soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) tests also were conducted. The test results show that the displacement field shows an apparent squeezing effect under the pile end. The installation pressure and displacement field characteristics are sensitive to the water content. The installation pressure is the largest and the total displacement field is the smallest, for specimens compacted at water content of 11.5%. These observations can be reasonably interpreted according to the relevant unsaturated silt theory derived from SWCC tests and direct shear tests. The variation characteristics of the soil displacement field reflect the macroscopic mechanical properties of the soil around the pile.

  • Detailed characteristics of the mean flow field inside the rotor of a multiblade fan with scroll are presented in this paper by measurements and visualizations. The measurements were taken with a five-hole probe and conformed by smoke test. How field is distinguished clearly in 3 regions with respect to the flow directions. The first region is near the exit of scroll where the fluid flows the opposite direction to the rotation of rotor. The second is opposite side of the scroll exit where the fluid flows the same direction to the rotation of rotor. The third is the region where the fluid flows toward the blades directly with the largest values comparatively. The strongest recirculation is happened in the second region, and the weakest one is in the third region. This complex configuration makes the flow field highly non-uniform and may cause to generate a noise and ineffective flow efficiency.

  • In this study we present a new improved nonlinear calibration method for vector magnetograms made by the Solar Flare Telescope of BOAO. To identify Fe I 6302.5 line, we have scanned monochromatic images of the line integrated over filter passband, changing the location of the central transmission wavelength of a Lyot filter. Then we obtained a filter-convolved line profile, which is in good agreement with spectral atlas data provided by the Sacramento Peak Solar Observatory. The line profile has been used to derive calibration coefficients of longitudinal and transverse fields, employing the conventional line slope method under the weak field approximation. Our improved nonlinear calibration method has also been used to calculate theoretical Stokes polarization signals with various angles of inclination of magnetic fields. For its numerical test, we have compared input magnetic fields with the calibrated ones, which have been derived from the new improved non-linear method and the conventional method respectively. The numerical test shows that the calibrated fields obtained from the improved method are consistent with the input fields, but not with those from the conventional method. Finally, we applied our new improved method to a dipole model which characterizes a typical field configuration of a single, round sunspot. It is noted that the conventional method remarkably underestimates the transverse field component near the inner penumbra.

  • Small form factor optical disks for near-field optics using solid immersion lens were developed. Disk durability properties in terms of head-disk interface (HDI) properties were investigated by drag test, diamond like carbon film and lubricant film were coated on the small form factor disk to enhance HDI. Disks with glass substrates and lubricant films after heat treatment showed more durable characteristics. Coverlayers made of UV resin were uniformly coated by spin coating In which the ski-jump could not be formed by adopting outer ring technique.

  • Electro Explosive Devices can be susceptible to electromagnetic interference. When these components are exposed to external electromagnetic fields, it may cause to induce sufficient current to generate enough heat for an inadvertent detonation. It is almost impossible to monitor the event of firing throughout the electromagnetic environment test. The survivability of EED for hazards of electromagnetic radiation is investigated. A fiber optic sensor is installed near the bridge wire after removing explosive material in order to measure the induced current on the bridge wire. The length of lead-wire of the EED fabricated is around 15 cm.

Next-generation trains equipped with direct driving permanent magnet traction motor and individually controlled propulsion system. Electromagnetic properties of the Next-Generation Train from four perspectives will be discussed. The first is closely related to human hazards that affect the 60Hz low frequency electromagnetic field. The Second is inductive noise that affect railroad signal system. The third is conductive noise that affect communication line near railroad. The 4th is radiation noise that may affect electronic equipment near the railroad tracks.

  • We present near-IR imaging polarimetry of the 5${\times}$9 fields (-39'${\times}$69') centered at 30 Doradus in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), using the InfraRed Survey Facility (IRSF). We obtained polarimetry data in J, H, and Ks bands using the JHKs-simultaneous imaging polarimeter SIRPOL in 2008 December and 2011 December. We measured Stokes parameters of point-like sources to derive the degree of polarization and the polarization position angle. Since our results are suffered from non-photometric weather, we compare the polarization results from 2008 and those from 2011, and examine the photometric reliabilities between the two runs. Our survey data will be compared with molecular and dust maps to reveal the large-scale magnetic field properties in the star-forming clouds.
