Texture Study in HDDR-treated Nd-Fe-B-type Particles

  • Effects of the disproportionating hydrogen pressure and alloy composition on the texture in the HDDR-treated Nd-Fe-B particles were examined using the $Nd_{12.6}Fe_{81.4}B_6$ and $Nd_{12.6}Fe_{68.7}B_6Co_{11.0}Ga_{1.0}Zr_{0.l}$ alloys. Disproportionation kinetics of the $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ phase in the Nd-Fe-B alloy was retarded significantly by the addition of Co, Ga and Zr. The retarded disproportionation kinetics of the $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ phase ensured a wider processing win­dow in terms of disproportionating hydrogen pressure for achieving a texture in the HDDR-treated Nd-Fe-B alloy particles.

Effect of Co-Substitution on the Crystallization and Magnetic Properties of a Mechanically Milled Nd15(Fe1-xCox)77B8 (x=0-0.6) Alloy

  • Mechanical milling technique is considered to be a useful way of processing the fine Nd-Fe-B-type powder with high coercivity. In the present study, phase evolution of the $Nd_{15}(Fe_{1-x}Co_{x})_{77}B_{8}$ (x=0-0.6) alloys during the high energy mechanical milling and annealing was investigated. The effect of Co-substitution on the crystallization of the mechanically milled $Nd_{15}(Fe_{1-x}Co_{x})_{77}B_{8}$ amorphous material was examined. The Nd-Fe-B-type alloys can be amorphized completely by a high-energy mechanical milling. On annealing of the amorphous material, fine $\alpha$-Fe crystallites form first from the amorphous. These fine $\alpha$-Fe crystallites reacts with the remaining amorphous afterwards, leading to crystallization to $Nd_2Fe_{14}$B phase. The Co-substitution for Fe in $Nd_{15}(Fe_{1-x}Co_{x})_{77}B_{8}$ ($\mu$x=0∼0.6) alloys lower significantly the crystallization temperature of the amorphous phase to the $Nd_2Fe_{14}$B phase. The mechanically milled and annealed $Nd_{15}Fe_{77}B_8$ alloy without Co-substitution exhibits consistently better magnetic properties with respect to the alloys with Co-substitution.

  • 과냉각된 melt-spun $Nd_{14.73}Fe_{78.67}B_{6.60}$리본의 급속응고속도 및 열처리에 따른 보자력의 변화를 조사하였으며, 이 결과를 분석하기 위하여 비정질로 부터의 결정화 거동을 연구하였다. 리본 제조시 급속응고속도가 증가함에 따라 결정화 후의 고유 보자력은 감소하였다. $Nd_{14.73}Fe_{78.67}B_{6.60}$ 비정질은 안정한 $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ 상으로 결정화하는 과정에서 $\alpha$-Fe와 $Fe_3B$ 상이 생성된다. $Fe_3B$ 상은 $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ 상이 결정화됨과 동시에 사라지나 $\alpha$-Fe 상은 완전히 결정화된 이후에도 기지상인 $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ 상과 함께 잔류한다. 열처리된 리본내에 잔류하는 연자성상인 $\alpha$-Fe에 의해 고유 보자력의 특성이 저하하였다.

${\alpha}-Fe$ 기 Nd-Fe-B 급속응고합금의 자기특성 (Magnetic Properties of ${\alpha}-Fe$ Based Nd-Fe-B Melt-Spun Alloys)

  • Nd 함유량을 4 at.%로 고정시킨 Nd-Fe-B 합금의 자기특성이 조사되었다. 급속응고된 $Nd_{4}Fe_{85.5}B_{10.5}$ 합금은 열처리에 의하여 ${\alpha}-Fe$ 연자성기지에 석출되며, $Nd_{4}Fe_{85.5}B_{10.5}$ 합금에 Mo, Nb, V 및 Cu의 첨가는 결정립을 미세화시켜 보자력을 향상시킨다. 그러나 ${\alpha}-Fe$ 결정립에 의한 각형성 열화는 잔류자화를 감소시킨다. $Nd_{4}Fe_{82}B_{10}M_{3}Cu_{1}$(M = Mo, Nb, V) 합금에서 보자력은 M = V < Nb < Mo로 증가하며, M = Mo에서 2.7 kOe이고, 잔류자화는 M = Mo < Nb < V순으로 증가하며 M = V에서 1.35 T이다.

Observations of Exchange Coupling in Nd2Fe14B/Fe/Nd2Fe14B Sandwich Structures and Their Magnetic Properties

  • Sandwich structures of$ Nd_2Fe_{14}B/Fe/Nd_2Fe_{14}B $magnetic films have been grown by a KrF excimer laser (λ=248 nm) ablation technique. Magnetic properties were characterized by varying the thickness of hard ($Nd_2Fe_{14}B$) and soft (Fe) magnetic films and the volume fraction as well. In the (x)nm[NdFeB]/(y)nm[Fe]/(x)nm[NdFeB]/(100) Si structure the thickness (x) was varied from 3.6 to 54 nm, and (y) from 15 to 112 nm. At (y) = 15~20 nm where the volume fraction of Fe corresponded to 61~75%, the sandwich structure exhibited an enhanced Mr/Ms and iHc as well from the result of the exchange coupling between the magnetic layers. Experimentally calculated exchange constant$ (A_s) of A_s = 2.5{\times}10^{-10} J/m$ was estimated using the intrinsic coercivity (iHc) of 1.2 kOe at 5 K for the sandwich magnetic trilayers.

  • Neodymium-iron-boron (Nd-Fe-B) sintered magnets have excellent magnetic properties such as the remanence, coercive force, and the maximum energy product compared to other hard magnetic materials. The coercive force of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets is improved by the addition of heavy rare earth elements such as dysprosium and terbium instead of neodymium. Then, the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets increases. However, additional elements have increased the production cost of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets. Hence, a study on the control of the microstructure of Nd-Fe-B magnets is being conducted. As the coercive force of magnets improves, the grain size of the $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ grain is close to 300 nm because they are nucleation-type magnets. In this study, fine particles of Nd-Fe-B are prepared with various grinding energies in the pulverization process used for preparing sintered magnets, and the microstructure and magnetic properties of the magnets are investigated.

  • Nd 함유량을 2~6at.%로 변화시킨 $\alpha$-(Fe, Co)-B-Nb-Cu 초미세결정립합금의 미세조직 및 자기특성을 조사하였다. 급속응고된 Ndx(Fe0.9Co0.1)90-xB6Nb3Cu1(2$\leq$x$\leq$6, 1at.% 간격) 합금은 x=3 이상에서 비정질상으로 제조되었다. 제조된 비정질합금은 열처리에 의해 $\alpha$-(Fe, Co) 및 Nd2(Fe, Co)14B1상으로 구성된 초미세결정립합금으로 결정화 되었다. 최적열처리조건에서 잔류자화는 Nd의 증가에 따라 감소하며, x=3에서 1.55T로 최대 값을 나타내었다. 보자력은 Nd함유량 증가에 따라 직선적으로 증가하여 x=6에서 4.6kOe이었으며, 최대에너지적은 10.6MGOe였다.

  • In the talk, the present research and production status of NdFeB magnets in China is outlined. The main research on NdFeB magnets at Zhejiang University is presented. The microstructural restructuring of grain boundaries of sintered NdFeB is focused. Through microstructural restructuring, the corrosion resistance of sintered NdFeB can be effectively improved, and NdFeB magnets with high coercivity and low heavy RE contents can be fabricated.
