  • The objective of this research work is to investigate into heat transfer characteristics of the laser cutting of CSP 1N sheet using high power CW Nd:YAG laser. In order to investigate the heat transfer characteristics, three dimensional quasi stationary and steady-state heat transfer analysis has been carried out. The laser heat source is assumed as a volumetric heat source with a gaussian heat distribution in a plane. Through the comparison of the results of analyses with those of experiments, the proper finite element model has been obtained. In addition, characteristics of the three-dimensional heat transfer and temperature distribution have been estimated by the finite element model. Finally, the minimum temperature at the center for cutting of the material has been estimated.

  • A 200W pulsed Nd: YAG laser for fine welding was developed. The important laser parameters such as laser peak power, average power, pulse width, and pulse energy for welding were studied. In order to obtain the sufficient laser power density for welding, thermal lensing effects were analyzed and a laser resonator with laser beam divergence was designed. The power supply unit was designed to support up to 7kW input. The pulse control unit was developed using a GTO thyristor and could control over 100kW input power to obtain 3.5kW peak power laser. Also due to the GTO thyristor the pulse width could be varied continuously from 0.1 to 20 msec and maximum repetition rate was as high as 300pps.

  • The remote sleeve repair-welding technology using the pulsed Nd:YAG laser for increasing the lifetime of the steam generator tube in the nuclear power plant has been developed. The laser welding has many advantages on deep penetration depth and narrow heat affect zone(HAZ). The inconel 600 tube and inconel 690 sleeve used high temperature and high pressure service have been welded as round lap welds. It is found that the relation between the connection width and welding parameters. It is found that the shear strength in proportion to the connection width by conducting tensile-shear tests.

  • Characteristics of an amplifier with repetition rate of a few KHz is investigated. The continuous flash lamp pumped Nd:YAG laser head is used as an amplifier. The thermally induced birefringence of the laser medium is compensated and the depolarization is reduced to 5% in a double-pass amplifier. The amplification factor of a four pass amplifier reaches to about 3.2 at the repetition rate 5-10 KHz and the pulse width is lengthened from 40 ns to 48 ns.

  • This study suggested the occurrence source of weld-defects and its solution methods in a welding of Electrolyte injection hole by pulsed Nd:YAG laser. In experiment, the ramp down was used in order that solidification crack was removed. Furthermore, shrinkage stress and heat input were reduced by changing of weld trajectory and defocused distance. As a results of a experiment, a sound weld bead shape and crack-free weld bead can be obtained.

  • The Nd:YAG laser process is known to have high speed and deep penetration capability to become one of the most advanced welding technologies. In spite of its good mechanical characteristics, SM45C carbon steel has a high carbon contents and suffers a limitation in the industrial application due to the poor welding properties. The major process parameters studied in the present laser welding experiment were position of focus, travel speed and laser power.

  • 레이저 시스템에서의 혼돈에 관한 연구는 Q-스위칭 레이저$^{(1)}$ , 모드록킹 레이저$^{(2)}$ 그리고 Nd:YAG 레이저의 제2차 고조파에서$^{(3)}$ 실험적으로 수행되었다. 또한 이러한 실험적인 결과들을 레이저 비율 방정식을 사용하여 이론적으로 분석하고자 하는 방법들이 보고되었다.$^{(4-6)}$ 그러나 이러한 노력에도 불구하고 여전히 비율 방정식만으로는 만족스럽게 설명하지 못하는 레이저 혼돈 현상들이 많이 존재한다. 레이저시스템에서 알려지지 않은 현상들 중 하나가 발진 문턱 근처에서의 행동이다. 레이저 시스템은 양자 잡음, 펌핑 잡음 등에 의한 잡음 현상들을 나타내는데, 이것들은 때때로 특히 발진 문턱에서의 레이저 동작에 중요한 역할을 한다. 그러한 경우 잡음에 관한 정확한 정보를 가지고 있지 않는 한 비율 방정식만으로 혼돈 현상들을 설명하기란 매우 어려운 일이다. 발진 문턱 근처에서의 레이저 출력에 관한 혼돈 현상은 최근에 수행된 연속 발진 Nd:YAG 레이저와$^{(7)}$ Q-스위칭 Nd:YAG 레이저를$^{(8)}$ 제외하면 보고된 것이 거의 없다. 본 논문에서는 작은 주기적인 변조가 가해진 다이오드 레이저로 들띄운 Nd:YAG 레이저의 내부 발생형 제2차 고조파의 출력이 나타내는 혼돈 현상이 바로 on-off 간헐성임을 보여주는 실험결과를 보고하고자 한다.   • Laser welding of metals has been widely used to improve a wear resistance and a corrosion resistance of the industrial parts. The objective of this research works is to investigate the influence of the process parameters, such as the welding for metals with CW Nd:YAG lasers. The bead-on-plate welding tests are carried out for several combinations of the experimental conditions. In order to quantitatively examine the characteristics of the butt welding, the welding quality of the cut section, stain-stress behavior and the hardness of the welded part are investigated. From the results of the investigation, it has been shown that the optimal welding condition without defects in the vicinity of the welded area and with a good welding quality is 1325W of the laser power, and 1.4m/min of laser welding speed.

  • This study deals with the laser cutting of stencil for the PCB. The most important aim of this study is to determine optimal conditions which make good-qualify stencil in Nd:YAG laser cutting. We made an experiment according to various variables (power. type of mask. gas pressure, cutting speed, and pulse width) and analyzed the cutting characteristics (surface roughness, kerf width. dross) . Each variable has optimal value for good-qualify cut edge under fixed condition. And neural network after learning experimental data with a million time iteration could predict surface roughness of cut edge under arbitrary condition approximately.
