Low-temperature sintering and dielectric properties of the (1-x)$BiNbO_4-(x)ZnNb_2O_6$ ceramics ((1-x)$BiNbO_4-(x)ZnNb_2O_6$ 세라믹스의 저온 소결 및 유전 특성)

  • In this study, the microwave dielectric property variations of (1-x)$BiNbO_4-(x)ZnNb_2O_6$ composites (x=0.3, 0.5 and 0.7) with 10wt% zinc borosilicate(ZBS) glass was investigated as a function of the substitution of $ZnNb_2O_6$ with a view to applying thes system to LTCC technology. The all composition addition of 10wt% ZBS glass ensured a successful sintering below $900^{\circ}C$. In addition, a small amount of $Bi_2SiO_5$ as the secondary phase was observed in the all composition. The substitution of $ZnNb_2O_6$ on the $BiNbO_4$ composites increased the $Q{\times}f$ values, but it decreased the sinterability and dielectric constant due to the high sintering temperature and low dielectric constant of $ZnNb_2O_6\;than\;BiNbO_4$ ceramics. The increasing of $ZnNb_2O_6$ content from 0.3 to 0.7 in the (1-x)$BiNbO_4-(x)ZnNb_2O_6$ composites with 10wt% ZBS glass sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ demonstrated 28.1~15.6 in the dielectric constant$({\varepsilon}_r)$, 5,500~8,700GHz in the $Q{\times}f$ value.

Influence of PVP on the Thickness of Ferroelectric (Na,K)NbO3 Film by Sol-Gel (솔-젤 법을 통해 제조된 강유전체 (Na,K)NbO3 막의 두께에 미치는 PVP의 영향)

  • (Na, K) $NbO_3$ thick film was successfully achieved using a sol-gel coating process with the addition of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) to a metal alkoxide solution. The transparent coating solution, mixed with Nb:PVP = 1:1 in a molar ration, was synthesized by evaporating the solvent to over 62.5 wt%. Additive PVP increased the viscosity of the solution so that the coating thickness could be enhanced. The thickness of the (Na, K) $NbO_3$ film assisted by PVP was ca. 320 nm at the time of deposition; this value is four times thicker than that of the sample fabricated without PVP. Also, due to PVP binding with the OH groups of the metal alkoxide, the condensation reaction in the film was suppressed. The crystalline size of the (Na, K) $NbO_3$ films assisted by PVP was ca. 15 nm smaller than that of the film fabricated without PVP. After the sintering process at $700^{\circ}C$, the (Na, K) $NbO_3$ films were mainly composed of randomly oriented (Na, K) $NbO_3$ phase of perovskite crystal structure, including a somewhat secondary phase of $K_2Nb_4O_{11}$. However, by adding PVP, the content of the secondary phase became quite smaller than that of the sample without PVP. It was thought that the addition of PVP might have the effect of restraining the loss of potassium and that PVP could hold metalloxane by strong hydrogen bonding before complete decomposition. Therefore, the film thickness of the (Na, K) $NbO_3$ films could be considerably advanced and made more crack-free by the addition of PVP.

Influence of $Dy_2O_3$ and Sn on the Structure and Magnetic Properties of NdFeNB Magnets

  • Addition of 2.0wt%$Dy_2O_3$ or 0.3wt%Sn proved to be very effective in improving the permanent magnetic properties of NdFeNbB magnets. $Dy_2O_3$ additions result in the increase in the Hci and temperature dependence due to formation of (NdDy)-rich phase and grain refinement of $\Phi$ phase. This improvement of the coercivity stability of the magnets from the addition of Sn is attributed to the smoothing effect of the Sn addition at the grain boundaries. The magnetic properties, the temperature dependence and Curie temperature of NdFeNbB with $Dy_2O_3$ and Sn combined addition were found to be considerably improved.

  • The $BaTiO_{3}+xNb_{2}O_{5}$[x=6, 8, 10wt%] ceramics were prepared by conventional mixed oxide method. The structural properties of the $BaTiO_{3}+xNb_{2}O_{5}$ ceramics with the sintering temperature and addition of $Nb_{2}O_{5}$ were investigated by XRD and SEM. Increasing the sintering temperature, the $2{\Theta}$ value of BT (110) peak was shifted to the lower degree and intensity of the BN (310) peak was increased. Increasing the addition of $Nb_{2}O_{5}$, the intensity of BN (100) peak was decreased and BN (310), (110) peaks were increased. The grain size of the $BaTiO_{3}+xNb_{2}O_{5}$ ceramics sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ were almost uniform. In the $BaTiO_{3}+xNb_{2}O_{5}$ ceramics sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$, the dielectric constant and dielectric loss were 5424, 0.02 respectively.

  • The role of Nb addition in the tension and corrosion responses of ferrite-based stainless-steel sheets processed by cold-rolling and annealing treatment at 1173 °K was studied to evaluate the possibility for commercialization. For this purpose, the grain sizes in the samples with and without Nb content were controlled to be reasonably identical by utilizing different heat treatments within the specific range for 60 seconds. The corrosion properties of both samples were evaluated based on the analysis of polarization curves. Room-temperature tension testing showed that the strength of the sample with Nb was much higher than that without Nb whereas the elongation of the sample with Nb was slightly lower than that without Nb. The polarization curves revealed that the addition of Nb contributed to the significant improvement in protective capabilities. We thought that such combinational behavior was mainly due to the formation of niobium carbides found in the ferritic matrix.

  • In order to evaluate the effect of Nb on wear properties of high speed steel by powder metallurgy(PM-HSS), niobium-alloyed PM-HSS have been prepared by adding 0%, 1%, 3% and 5%Nb to PM-HSS of 6%W-5%Mo-4%Cr-5%V-5%Co presented in the previous paper. Sliding wear test have been conducted in various sliding speed conditions under the constant pressure using a pin-on-disc type machine. The results of this study shows that the wear resistance of PM-HSS has been increased by the addition of Nb in the range of experimental sliding speed. However, the amount of Nb shows to be unimportant parameter for the improvement of the wear resistance. It may be due to the thermal stability of carbide and high temperature properties of matrix by adding Nb comparing to the case of no addition.

  • The effect of {{{{ {{Nb }_{2 }O }_{5 } }} and CoO addition on the temperature dependence of the {{{{ {BaTiO }_{3 } }}-based ceramic capa-citor has been studied. X7R with moderate temperature dependence has been developed by means of pre-cisely controlled {{{{ {{Nb }_{2 }O }_{5 } }}/CoO ratio. Dielectric constant(K) and dissipation factor(DF) were 3500 and 1.5% respectively. As the content of {{{{ {{Nb }_{2 }O }_{5 } }} was increased the curie temperature(Tc) was shifted to lower tem-perature and the dielectric constant at Tc was decreased. The proper addition of CoO with {{{{ {{Nb }_{2 }O }_{5 } }} improved the temperature dependence of dielectric properties of the {{{{ {BaTiO }_{3 } }}-based ceramic capacitor.

Recrystallization TEP Behavior of Zr-based alloy by addition of Nb and Sn (Nb과 Sn 첨가에 따른 Zr 합금의 재결정 및 TEP 거동)

  • To investigate the effects of the addition of Nb and Sn on the recrystallization of Zr- Sn-Nb alloys, both Vickers micro-hardness test and TEP measurement were carried out on cold-worked specimens annealed at various temperatures from $300^{\circ}C$ to 75$0^{\circ}C$. The microstructures of heat treated specimens were analyzed by optical microscope, SEM, and TEM. The study of microhardness and microstructures showed that both recrystallization process and grain growth were retarded as the activation energy was increased by the addition of Nb and Sn. Especially, the addition of Sn was more effective on retarding recrystallization. Precipitates were formed more easily when Nb was added because the solubility of Nb into Zr is lower than that of Sn. However, the recrystallization process was affected more by Sn than Nb because the strain field formed by substitutional Sn repressed the dislocation movement. TEP was increased due to the decrease of electron scattering as recovery and recrystallization were proceeded and saturated when the recrystallization completed. However, when precipitates formed, TEP was increased because the decrease of solute concentration near the precipitates caused the decrease of electron scattering.
