과학기술-사회과학 연계모형의 모색 (On the Interdisplinary Linkage Framework between Engineering Discipline and Social Science Discipline)

  • Recently, the interdisciplinary linkage between engineering and social science has received an increasing attention as an emerging education discipline. Due to intrinsic complexity of innovation process and heterogeneity of disciplinary nature, however there exists little, if not no, effort to draw a common framework in terms of educational scope and contents of the new subject. This paper presents a number of criteria and guidelines for building up new educational framework by integrating engineering subject and social science subject. Specifically, three neo-disciplines, technology policy, technology management, and economics of technology are considered since it is postulated that the forementioned disciplines have established academic identity and fundamental structure By nature, this paper is an exploratory and seminal one. It is not the purpose of this paper to provide a concrete table of contents of educational material. Instead, it merely brings up a discussion topic for the wide audience of academic arena, leaving the gradual consensus and convergence as future task.

임상물리치료에 있어서 아로마테라피의 활용 (The Utilization of Aromatherapy in Clinical Physical Therapy)

  • Our health is intimately connected to the health of our environment. The contemporary world view which sees a radical distinction between humans as subjects and world as object can obscure our recognition of how much we rely on nature for health and survival. Indigenous traditions and contemporary scholars remind us that we live in a universe in which all things are connected, and in which nature continues to offer its gifts in co-creative partnership for the health and wellbeing of all. Living in awareness of our relationship with nature enables us to open more to the experience of nature's nurturing. Many complementary therapies derive from ancient practices that involve nature in healing partnership. Essential oils have been used for thousands of years. Hippocrates claimed that the way to health was through aromatic baths and massages. Much anecdotal evidence exists regarding aromatherapeutic positive effects on recipients. Aromatherapy is a branch of complementary or alternative therapy which is increasing in popularity, yet has scant scientific credibility. Aromatherapy should be defined as treatment using odors and practised as such. However, essential oils are usually used in conjunction with therapeutic massage and often combined with counselling of some kind. Aromatherapy complements and enhances the therapeutic powers of massage. Massage is one of the most wonderful ways to relax and is throughly beneficial to health. Massage can help unknot tense and aching muscles and other minor symptoms of stress, leaving patients fresh and energized. As the use of aromatherapy within a health care setting has grown so rapidly in recent years, and will continue to do so, the need for suitable training has become apparent. No health service can afford the risk of having staff who are inadequately trained in the practice of aromatherapy using essential oils incorrectly on those in a state of ill-health, especially if the essential oils used are not to a standard suitable for therapeutic use. Training to an acceptable level in aromatic therapy is essential for safety and effectiveness. Knowledge of the nature and make-up of essential oils, their effect on the body and the emotions, and how, when, and where to apply them is imperative in order for them to be beneficial to a patient's health. In order to achieve best practice, further research is necessary to explore the use of aromatherapy in the management of multiple disorder.

Tailoring the Excited-State Intramolecular Proton Transfer (ESIPT) Fluorescence of 2-(2'-Hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole Derivatives

  • The excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) fluorescence in the 2-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole (HBO) derivatives with different electron donor and acceptor substituents was studied by spectroscopic and theoretical methods. Changes in the electronic transition, energy levels, and orbital diagrams of HBO analogues were investigated by the semi-empirical molecular orbital calculation and were correlated with the experimental spectral position of ESIPT keto emission. It was found that the presence of substituents, regardless of their nature, resulted in the red-shifted absorption relative to HBO. However, the spectral change of the ESIPT fluorescence was differently affected by the nature of substituent: hypsochromic shift with electron donor and bathochromic shift with electron acceptor.

DDT의 Aromatase 증가에 의한 Testosterone 감소효과 (DDT Reduced Testosterone and Aromatase Activity Via ER Receptor in Leydig Cell)

  • 본 연구는 환경호르몬(endocrine disruptors)으로 분류되었으며, 제초제로 널리 사용되었던 Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane(DDT)가 설치류의 생식세포 중 Leydig 세포의 testosterone(T)생성억제 및 그 관련 작용메카니즘을 규명코자 수행되었다. 먼저 흰쥐의 웅성 생식세포주인 R2C세포에 T의 양 및 aromatase 활성도를 radio immunoassay (RIA)방법을 이용하여 측정하였다. 그 결과 R2C 세포에 황체형성호르몬(LH)를 처리하여 testosterone생성을 증가시킨 후, DDT를 처리한 군들은 대조군에 비하여 농도 의존적으로 T의 양은 감소하였으며, aromatase 활성도는 증가하였다. 또한 DDT자체만 처리한 군에서도 대조군에 비하여 testosterone의 생성이 감소하였다. 이러한 aromatase활성 증가가 estradiol receptor(ER)와의 상호 관련성을 확인하기 위해 ER antagonist인 ICI 182.780를 처리한 후 T의 양 및 aromatase 활성도를 측정한 결과 DDT에 의해 증가된 aromatase활성도가 ICI 182.780에 의해 다시 감소됨을 확인하였다. 또한 DDT에 의해 감소된 T의 양도 ICI 182.780에 의해 다시 회복되었다. In vivo실험으로 흰쥐에 DDT를 직접 투여한 후 정소 내 성 호르몬들을 측정해 본 결과 T의 양은 유의성 있게 감소하였으며, estradiol(E$_2$)의 양은 증가하였으며, aromatase 활성도도 감소하였다. 이러한 결과를 종합해 볼 때 DDT는 aromatase를 감소시키고, 이렇게 감소된 aromatase에 의해 testosterone 생성량을 억제하고, 이러한 DDT의 aromatase의 감소는 ER을 경유하는 것으로 추정할 수 있다.

Bacillus stearothermophilus DL-3을 사용하여 제조한 미생물 제재가 닭과 돼지의 성장에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Microbial Products Made of Bacillus stearothermophilus DL-3 on Growth of Chickens and Pigs)

  • 유기물이 풍부한 토양에서 분리하여 동정한 Bucillus stearothermophilus DL-3균주의 배양액과 사과박, 간장박 및 미강 등을 사용하여 2종류의 미생물 제재를 제조하고 닭과 돼지의 생육에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 사과박의 주성분은 탄수화물이며 간장박의 주성분은 단백질이다. B. stearothermophilus DL-3 균주의 배양액과 미강을 사용하여 제조한 미생물 제제를 미생물 제제 A로 명명하고 B. stearothermophilus DL-3균주의 배양액, 사과박, 간장박 및 미강을 사용하여 제조한 미생물 제제를 미생물 제제 B로 명명하였다. 미생물 제재가 닭 및 돼지의 생육에 미치는 영향을 검토하기 위하여 일반사료를 급여한 구, 일반사료의 $10\%$를 미생물 제재 A로 대체하여 급여한 구 및 일반사료의 $10\%$를 미생물 제재 B로 대체하여 급여한 구로 나누어 효과 검정실험을 수행하였다. 실험에 사용한 각 구의 평균 병아리 무게는 각각 $41.1{\pm}2.5g,\;41.6{\pm}3.2g$$42.3{\pm}2.9g$이었다. 급여를 시작하지 28일 후, 각 구에 속한 병아리들의 평균 무게는 각각 $547.7{\pm}91.7g,\;560.1{\pm}17.2g$$562.2{\pm}32.5g$이었으며 각 구에 속한 병아리들의 평균 무게 증가는 각각 506.6 g, 518.5 g 및 519.9 g이었다. 즉, 일반사료의 $10\%$를 미생물 제재 A로 대체하여 급여한 군과 일반사료의 $10\%$를 미생물 제재 B로 대체하여 급여한 군은 일반사료를 급여한 군에 비하여 각각 $2.4\%$$2.6\%$의 무게 증가를 나타났다. 각 구의 평균 돼지 무게는 각각 $9.3{\pm}1.0kg,\;9.4{\pm}1.1kg$$9.6{\pm}1.0kg$이었다. 급여를 시작한지 35일 후, 각 구에 속한 돼지들의 평균 무게는 각각 $19.3{\pm}4.1kg,\;20.2{\pm}3.9kg$$20.8{\pm}4.2kg$이었으며 각 구에 속한 돼지들의 평균 무게 증가는 각각 10.7 kg, 10.8 kg 및 11.2 kg이었다. 닭의 사료 효과 검정 결과와 같이 일반사료의 $10\%$를 미생물 제재 A로 대체하여 급여한 군과 일반사료의 $10\%$를 미생물 제재 B로 대체하여 급여한 군은 일반사료를 급여한 군에 비하여 각각 $1.6\%$$5.2\%$의 무게 증가를 나타났다.

An Accurate Method to Estimate Traffic Matrices from Link Loads for QoS Provision

  • Effective traffic matrix estimation is the basis of efficient traffic engineering, and therefore, quality of service provision support in IP networks. In this study, traffic matrix estimation is investigated in IP networks and an Elman neural network-based traffic matrix inference (ENNTMI) method is proposed. In ENNTMI, the conventional Elman neural network is modified to capture the spatio-temporal correlations and the time-varying property, and certain side information is introduced to help estimate traffic matrix in a network accurately. The regular parameter is further introduced into the optimal equation. Thus, the highly ill-posed nature of traffic matrix estimation is overcome effectively and efficiently.

Intrusion Detection using Attribute Subset Selector Bagging (ASUB) to Handle Imbalance and Noise

  • Network intrusion detection is becoming an increasing necessity for both organizations and individuals alike. Detecting intrusions is one of the major components that aims to prevent information compromise. Automated systems have been put to use due to the voluminous nature of the domain. The major challenge for automated models is the noise and data imbalance components contained in the network transactions. This work proposes an ensemble model, Attribute Subset Selector Bagging (ASUB) that can be used to effectively handle noise and data imbalance. The proposed model performs attribute subset based bag creation, leading to reduction of the influence of the noise factor. The constructed bagging model is heterogeneous in nature, hence leading to effective imbalance handling. Experiments were conducted on the standard intrusion detection datasets KDD CUP 99, Koyoto 2006 and NSL KDD. Results show effective performances, showing the high performance of the model.

과학 철학을 수강하는 대학원생의 과학의 본성에 대한 인식의 변화 (The Changes of postgraduate Students' Conceptions towards the Nature of Science through the Course related to Philosophy of Science)

  • This study investigated 15 Postgraduate students' conception toward the nature of science and the changes of those conceptions through the course called 'Philosophy of Science and Science Education', And another 8 postgrauate students who took the course called 'Mathematical Physics' were also investigated for comparison. A survey questionnaire involving 9 items was developed and administered before and after the course to both groups. Individual interviews with students taking 'Philosophy of Science and Science Education' were carried out in a small scale for obtaining additional information about their background knowledge. The results of this study showed that the students' traditional views of philosophy of science including the objective observation and the inductive method were reduced after the course, 'Philosophy of Science and Science Education'. On the other hand. views of modem philosophy of science including the theory-laden observation, the tentativeness of scientific knowledge and science as human activities became more popular. It was also found that their conceptions towards Science were different according to their previous knowledges on the philosophy of science and their majors.

특성화고 학생들의 과학의 본성(NOS) 이해를 위한 과학기술사 수업 프로그램의 개발 및 적용 (Development and Implementation of the History of Science and Technology Program for Understanding of Technical High School Students about the Nature of Science)

  • 본 연구는 공업계열 특성화고 학생들을 위한 과학기술사 수업 프로그램을 개발하고 적용함으로써 과학의 본성에 대한 이해에 미치는 교육적 효과를 조사하였다. 프로그램은 고등학교 융합 과학 및 물리 I의 교육과정을 바탕으로 6개의 과학기술사 주제로 개발되었으며, 경기도에 위치한 공업계열 특성화고 학생 290명을 대상으로 적용되었다. 본 연구의 방법은 단일 그룹 사전-사후 검사로 설계되었으며. 학생들의 과학의 본성에 대한 이해를 조사하고자 프로그램 적용 전후에 설문을 실시하여 그 검사 결과를 SPSS 23을 이용하여 통계 분석을 실시하였다. 과학의 본성에 대한 설문도구는 선행연구에서 개발된 4가지 영역의 과학의 본성 개념 틀(Lee, 2014)을 수정 보완하여 사용하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 공업계열 특성화고 학생들의 과학의 본성에 이해에 대한 사전 사후 비교 결과, 과학기술사 수업 프로그램이 학생들의 이해에 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 과학기술사 수업 프로그램의 효과는 특성화고 학생들의 성별 및 전공에 따른 차이는 없는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 과학의 본성 4가지 영역간의 상관관계 분석에 의하면, 4가지 영역들은 모두 상호 높은 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 특히 각 개별 영역들은 모두 과학과 기술, 그리고 사회와의 상호작용에 대한 과학의 본성 측면과 상관관계가 있는 것이 발견되었다. 한편, 과학기술사 수업 프로그램은 구체적으로 어떻게 학생들의 과학의 본성에 대한 이해에 효과가 있는지에 대한 후속 연구가 필요하다.

학교 과학수업에서 실험의 목적에 대한 고찰 (Review on the Aims of Laboratory Activities in School Science)

  • Teaching with laboratory activities in school science, which are distinctive characteristic, is placed from other disciplines fur teaming almost 200 hundred years ago. A number of science educators have suggested that there are rich benefits in teaming from using laboratory activities. At these time, however, some educators have begun to seriously question the effectiveness and the role of laboratory activities. There are some causes related to obscure and vague aims of laboratory activities. The purposes of this paper is to review aims of laboratory activities presented in the literatures through historical overview, and to obtain implication for school science. There are various aims of laboratory activities by a number of researchers. Overall synthesizing, there are ffur domains of aims of science teaching through laboratory activities, (a) science knowledge has two sub-domains; scientific content knowledge and procedural knowledge, (b) nature of science, (c) science attitude has two sub-domain; scientific attitude and attitude toward science, and (d) ability of scientific inquiry has two sub-domain; manipulative skills and scientific thinking. But, it is necessary to continue the following study in order to obtain the aims of laboratory activities agreed by expert community, and setting up of lists of aims of laboratory activities for students to achieve hierarchies of school science curriculums.
