Recently, due to the increase of the use of scanned images, the text segmentation techniques, which play critical role to optimize the quality of the scanned images, are required to be updated and advanced. In this study, an algorithm has been developed based on the modification of Gaussian mixture model (GMM) by integrating the calculation of Gaussian detection gradient and the estimation of the number clusters. The experimental results show an efficient method for text segmentation in natural scenes such as storefronts, street signs, scanned journals and newspapers at different size, shape or color of texts in condition of lighting changes and complex background. These indicate that our model algorithm and research approach can address various issues, which are still limitations of other senior algorithms and methods.

In this paper, we propose a new method of eye, face, and lip makeup techniques on the target face image from several makeup examples without losing detail features such as eyelids, eyebrows, hair. After detection of the feature layer for the skin, we applied our makeup techniques to the target face by using a blending technique. We used a cartoon rendering using bilateral filter. In order to smoothly makeup the target face, we created two Gaussian Weight maps for natural skin makeup effects. Our method did not need to perform complex operations, so the makeup results are so natural. Our experimental results show good performances in various makeups.

In this paper, post-processing step is presented to remove noises and develop a fully automated scheme to segment flowers in natural scene images. The scheme to segment flowers using a level set algorithm in the natural scene images produced unexpected and isolated noises because the level set relies only on the color and edge information. The experimental results shows that the proposed method successfully removes noises in the foreground and background.

Difference in recovery behaviors from the circular deformation of natural rubber (NR) composites aged in air and distilled water, respectively were investigated. Recoveries of the samples aged in air were larger than those of the samples aged in distilled water. Recovery rates of the samples reinforced with filler were faster than those of the unreinforced ones. Recovery rates of the carbon black-filled samples were faster than those of the silica-filled ones. Difference in the recovery behaviors according to the aging media can be explained by the crosslinking density changes and the annealing effect.

1. Amylase producing bacteria have been isolated from natural sources and was identified out. The above strain is identical to Bacillus subtillis in every details of physiological and morphorogical characteristics by this investigations. 2. Sikworm chrysalis nad chlorella extracts are prove to be further effective for the stimulation of amylase production than any other sources. The former silkworm extract is more stronger in its activity. 3. It is found that effective results had been accepted by a less soybean meal addition per that of wheat bran in the mixture ratio of them, also less addition of corn is needed in the mixture ratio of between corn and whear bran. In the mixing ratio of wheat bran per silkworm or chlorella extracts, the addition of wheat bran is necessary for stimulation of amylase production. 4. Fro the stimulation of amylase production, the effective substances from natural sources and its order of activity in cultral media cultral media is proved as follows, silkworms ext.>chlorella ext.>alcohol>skim-milk and peptone>fermented milk>radish leaf ext.

A robust and efficient text extraction is very important for an accuracy of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) systems. Natural scene images with degradations such as uneven illumination, perspective distortion, complex background and multi color text give many challenges to computer vision task, especially in text extraction. In this paper, we propose a method for extraction of the text in signboard images based on a combination of mean shift algorithm and weighting scheme of hue and saturation in HSI color space for clustering algorithm. The number of clusters is determined automatically by mean shift-based density estimation, in which local clusters are estimated by repeatedly searching for higher density points in feature vector space. Weighting scheme of hue and saturation is used for formulation a new distance measure in cylindrical coordinate for text extraction. The obtained experimental results through various natural scene images are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

MediaGIS is a concept of tightly integrated multimedia with spatial information. VideoGIS is an example of MediaGIS focused on the interaction or interaction of video and spatial information. Our suggested GeoVideo, a new concept of VideoGIS has its key feature in interactiveness. In GeoVideo, the geographic tasks such as browsing, searching, querying, spatial analysis can be performed based on video itself. GeoVideo can have the meaning of paradigm shift from artificial, static, abstracted and graphical paradigm to natural, dynamic, real, and image-based paradigm. We discuss about the integration of video and geography and also suggest the GeoVideo system design. Several considerations on expanding the functionalities of GeoVideo are explained for the future works.

Ergothioneine is a natural compound with strong antioxidant properties. In this study, the effects of different nitrogen sources including ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulfate, sodium nitrate, and histidine in sawdust media were investigated to enhance ergothioneine contents in Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) fruit bodies. The addition of 0.2% ammonium sulfate in the growth media showed the highest enhancement of ergothioneine content in shiitake fruit bodies which was 1.7-fold higher than the control. On the other hand, histidine, a building block of ergothioneine decreased the concentration of ergothioneine significantly. Our results demonstrate that the cultivation of shiitake in sawdust media with suitable nutrients was effective to enhance its ergothioneine contents.

The authors isolated Vibrio parahaemolyticus from sea water, sea mud and various marine products in Busan shore area from 1981 to 1982, Among 100 isolated strains, 66 strains showed positive reaction in Kanagawa phenomenon. With the above 66 strains, the authors carred out test for detecting hemolysis activity of V.parahaemolyticus on human, rabbit, chicken, pig, goat, sheep and cow erythrocytes, in different media, such as modified Wagatsuma, nutrient, peptone and brain heart infusion agar plates media. The following results were obtained: 1. The media which can be used for Kanagawa phenomenon of V. parahoemolyticus were modified Wagatsuma, nutrient, peptone agar media, but not brain heart infusion agar medium. 2. The erythrocytes which showed positive Kanagawa phenomenon were those of human, rabbit, chicken and pig, but sheep, goat and cow erythrocytes showed no sensitivities.

Five different secretion vectors were constructed by varying the signal sequences and .alpha.-antitrypsin (.alpha.1-AT) a numan secretory protein, was produced from yeast cells. The signal sequences used are those of acid phosphatase (PH05) and .alpha.-factor (M f.alphal1) of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, glucoamylase (STA1) of Saccharomyces diastaticus, and human .alpha.1-AT. Four vectors directed the efficient secretion of .alpha.1-AT ito the culture media. The secretion vector carrying the glucoamylase signal sequence (pGAT11) showed the highest efficiency of secretion. About 70% of .alpha.1-AT produce dwere secreted into the media. The endo H treatment of partially purified .alpha.1-AT indicates that the secreted .alpha.1-AT appeared to be glycosylated. This glycosylation pattern was altered when amino acid substitution mutations were introduced at the three glycosylation sites of .alpha.-AT.
