Molecular Characterization and Expression Analysis of Adrenergic Receptor Beta 2 (ADRB2) Gene before and after Exercise in the Horse

  • The adrenergic receptor beta 2 (ADRB2) plays a role in various physiological responses of the muscle to exercise, such as contraction and relaxation. Given its important role in muscle function, we investigated the structure of the horse ADRB2 gene and its expression pattern after exercise to determine if it can serve as a putative biomarker for recovery. Evolutionary analyses using synonymous and non-synonymous mutation ratios, were compared with other species (human, chimpanzee, mouse, rat, cow, pig, chicken, dog, and cat), and revealed the occurrence of positive selection in the horse ADRB2 gene. In addition, expression analyses by quantitative polymerase chain reaction exhibited ubiquitous distribution of horse ADRB2 in various tissues including lung, skeletal muscle, kidney, thyroid, appendix, colon, spinal cord and heart, with the highest expression observed in the lung. The expression of ADRB2 in skeletal muscle was significantly up-regulated about four folds 30 minutes post-exercise compared to pre-exercise. The expression level of ADRB2 in leukocytes, which could be collected with convenience compared with other tissues in horse, increased until 60 min after exercise but decreased afterward until 120 min, suggesting the ADRB2 expression levels in leukocytes could be a useful biomarker to check the early recovery status of horse after exercise. In conclusion, we identified horse ADRB2 gene and analyzed expression profiles in various tissues. Additionally, analysis of ADBR2 gene expression in leukocytes could be a useful biomarker useful for evaluation of early recovery status after exercise in racing horses.

  • Growth of cities and an increase in population result in the development-oriented policy, urban streams to lose their natural characteristics and functions by channelization, parking lot construction, and so forth. The streams fall into urban drains, which is the current status of urban streams. Recently, the interest in the stream environment and the ecosystem has been increased, and the efforts have been made to improve the traditional maintenance program for small streams. These efforts lead to the application of the natural recovery systems. This study applied the 240-meter model reach along the Oncheon stream, which locates in Dongrae-gu, Busan city. to analyze the natural recovery system. The efficiency of each system has been analyzed and the future improvements for the systems are presented. The results show that the stream maintenance program should consider the ecological environment. thereby minimizing the environmental effects. When the changes are inevitable, the maintenance program should adopt the methods. which closely simulate the original environmental elements. or are more favorable to the ecosystem.

Effects of Setaria italica on Gap Junction-Mediated Intercellular Communication for the Development of Cancer Chemopreventive Agents

  • Inhibition of gap junction-mediated intercellular communication (GJIC) has been considered as an important factor in the tumor promotion phase of carcinogenesis. Recovery effects of natural products on gap junctional intercellular communication are measured by scrape-loading and dye transfer method using Lucifer yellow after administration of phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA) on WBF344 cells. Among tested natural products, the hexane fraction and subfractions (F-01 and F-04) of Setaria italica were relatively effective for recovery of GJIC. The hexane fraction of Setaria italica $(EC_{25},\;12.14\;{\mu}g/ml)$ and subfractions $(F-01:EC_{50},\;10.74\;{\mu}g/ml;EC_{25},\;1.58\;{\mu}g/ml,\;F-04:EC_{50},\;11.03\;{\mu}g/ml;\;EC_{25},\;3.12\;{\mu}g/ml)$ revealed dose-dependent recovery effects on GJIC. Our data show GJIC activity measurement by Lucifer yellow spread on cells can be an effective tool for the screening of natural products with possible cancer chemopreventive effects.

  • 우리나라는 매년 풍수해에 의한 피해가 증가하고 있으며, 대부분의 피해가 하천, 도로시설물을 중심으로 주로 일어나고 있다. 이들 피해에 따른 국가복구지원의 문제점은 매년 많은 금액의 피해 복구비가 투입되었음에도 불구하고, 개선복구 보다는 원상복구 위주의 복구비 지원으로 반복적 피해가 발생하고 있다는 사실이다. 이러한 재난의 비효율적 반복피해를 예방하기 위해서는 자연재난으로 인한 피해의 원인을 보다 정확히 진단하고 항구적인 방어대책의 마련을 위한 보다 구체적인 기준이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 최근 국내에서 발생하고 있는 풍수해에 대한 전반적인 실태조사를 통하여 피해현상의 유형별 구분과 분석을 각각의 피해에 대한 복구방법이나 대책방법으로 각각 체계적으로 다르게 분류하고 보다 선진화된 예방적 복구 개념을 도입하기 위하여 피해 유형별로 새롭게 정리하였다. 이를 통하여 피해유형에 따른 피해분류 및 피해사례를 보다 체계적으로 수립, 계획할 수 있는 유형화 도감 및 평가방법을 국내외 수많은 기 선행 개선복구 사례를 토대로 분류, 개발하였다.

천연 제올라이트를 이용한 고농도 질소 회수 (Recovery of nitrogen from high strength waste stream by using natural zeolite (Clinoptilolite))

  • This paper presents the applicability of natural zeolite (Clinoptilolite) for recovery of ammonium nitrogen from high-strength wastewater stream. Isotherm experiments showed the ammonium exchange Clinoptilolite followed Freundlich isotherm and its maximum exchange capacity was $18.13mg\;NH_4{^+}-N/g$ zeolite. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis indicated that a significant amount of nitrogen was adsorbed to the Clinoptilolite. Optimal flowrate for recovery of high concentration ammonium nitrogen was determined at 16 BV/d (=19.2 L/min) throughout the lab-scale column studies operated under various flowrate conditions. This study also provided a method to determine the recovery rate of final product of nitrogen fertilizer based on the model application to the lab-scale continuous data.

Clinical Study of Natural Recovery of Altered Sensation after Minor Dental Surgery

  • Purpose: The aim of our study was to evaluate natural recovery of neurologic injury after minor dental surgery based on subjective neurologic evaluation. Materials and Methods: From December 2005 through July 2009, 30 patients from Seoul National University Bundang Hospital were identified as having been treated with minor dental surgery. The patients were composed of 12 men and 18 women, with a mean age of 50.6 years. The median duration of this study was 62 weeks. Results: The patients were treated by implants (17 cases), tooth extractions (6 cases), bone grafts (4 cases), inferior alveolar nerve transpositions (2 cases) and periodontal surgery (1 case) prior to the occurrence of altered sensation. Areas of altered sensation after minor surgery included the lip (36.7%), chin (30.0%) and tooth (21.7%), and at final follow-up, there was no change of ranking. Altered sensations expressed by patients included numbness (33.3%), discomfort (22.9%), relieving sense (14.6%), tingling (14.6%) and itching (14.6%). There was no change of ranking of altered sensation at the last follow-up. Patients experienced the altered sensation always (47.8%), during tactile stimulation (26.1%), when chewing food (13.0%), and talking (13.0%). Mean visual analogue scale (VAS) was $3.43{\pm}2.84$ for pain and $6.64{\pm}2.72$ for paresthesia. VAS of pain was decreased significantly between the first visit and the end of follow-up, and paresthesia also showed a significant difference. Conclusion: Altered sensations may occur at any time after minor dental surgery, but we observed that natural recovery of altered sensation occurred as time went on.

폴리머 공법 적용 불균질 저류층에서의 유효 압축률이 오일생산에 미치는 영향 분석 (The Analysis for the Effect of Effective Compressibility on Oil Recovery in Polymer Flooded Heterogeneous Reservoir)

  • 불균질한 자연균열 저류층에서 암체의 압축률은 매우 작은 값을 가지는 반면에 균열의 압축률은 상대적으로 큰 값을 갖는다. 균열의 압축률을 포함한 유효 압축률을 고려하지 않을 경우에는 균열의 간극 변화로 인한 공극 부피의 변화를 반영할 수 없기 때문에 정확한 오일 회수를 예측할 수 없다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 연구들에서 암체의 압축률만을 고려하여 오일 회수를 분석했던 것과 달리, 암체와 균열의 압축률을 모두 고려한 유효 압축률을 적용해서 오일 회수량을 분석하였다. 폴리머 공법에서 균열의 압축률이 폴리머의 주입에 미치는 영향을 이해하기 위해, 폴리머의 분자량, 농도, 주입속도에 따른 오일 회수량을 분석하였다. 유효 압축률을 고려할 경우 폴리머 분자량, 농도, 주입속도가 높아질수록 유효 압축률을 고려하지 않은 경우가 고려한 경우보다 누적 오일 생산량이 높게 나타났다. 또한 공저 압력의 경우에도 유효 압축률을 고려하지 않은 경우가 고려한 경우보다 빠르게 급감하여 오일 생산량에 영향을 주는 것을 확인할 수 있다.

  • The purpose of this article was to examine the effects of reed pipe music listening on fatigue recovery. A great number of the moderns are suffering from mental and physical exhaustion these days. It was well known for leading to cause various diseases and health problems. A reed pipe is completely natural and a basic instrument. As everyone knows, spending time in nature also helps you feel better and refreshable. From old times, we rested in the bosom of nature. The author think reed pipe music is one of the most beautiful and useful gifts presented by nature to humans. Listening reed pipe music is a good way to value and enjoy the purity of nature. Also, you can find peace and stillness, and relax and rest in the woods. That way, we could feel the throbbing pulse of life in nature and we have gotten some solace and rest from natural healing power. The author think listening reed pipe music is a nice approach to sharing nature, as well as communicating with it. Therefore, the author think listening to reed pipe music is a wonderful way to recovery fatigue and you can truly relax in nature. It will heal us rest and feel better and a reed pipe music is nature-friendly music that gives you relax and heals you to recovery fatigue.

자바리(Epinephelus moara)와 대왕자바리(E. moara ♀ × E. lanceolatus ♂)에 대한 MS-222의 마취효과 (The Anaesthetic Effect of MS-222 for Longtooth Grouper, Epinephelus moara and the Hybrid Grouper, E. moara ♀ × E. lanceolatus ♂)

  • 자바리와 대왕자바리 2종을 대상으로 MS-222 농도 및 수온에 따른 마취효과 실험을 수행하였다. 농도는 100, 150, 200 그리고 250 ppm을, 수온은 18, 22, 26 그리고 30℃에서 마취 및 회복시간을 조사하였다. MS-222 농도와 수온이 높아질수록 마취시간이 짧아지는 경향을 보였으며, 회복시간은 농도와는 비례하지만 수온과는 반비례하는 경향을 보였다. 회복시간은 22℃ 이하에서는 큰 차이가 없었다. 자바리의 최적 마취조건은 회복시간이 가장 짧은 30℃와 100 ppm, 대왕자바리의 경우 30℃ 150 ppm이 회복시간이 100 ppm과 유의적으로 차이가 없으면서 마취시간은 유의하게 짧아 가장 적합했다. 이원배치분산분석 결과 자바리와 대왕자바리의 종 간 유의한 차이가 있었으나, 종과 농도 그리고 종, 농도, 수온에 대한 상호작용 효과는 없었다.
