Engineering Theory: A Conversational Bridge Between Theoreticians and Practitioners in Discussion of Curriculum Development and Dissemination as Used in the DASH Program

  • This paper advances the thesis that the barrier separating curriculum theorists and practitioners is more than a difference in experiential and methodological orientation and is in part a product of a lack of appreciation of the complexities involved in curriculum development and dissemination. Discussed here is the possible use of engineering theory to facilitate meaningful communication and understanding about products and development. This work is an extension of the observation that curriculum development and dissemination can be characterized as an engineering process and shows how engineering theory provides connectivity between the multiple embedded domains of theory and of practice. To illustrate the thesis this paper offers an analysis of the Developmental Approaches in Science, Health, and Technology (DASH) program that has employed engineering theory in curriculum construction and dissemination. In this study, the role and place of engineering theory as applied to the DASH program is discussed to show how the components were designed and assembled into a fully functional curriculum and dissemination system. Engineering theory is presented as an interfacing organizer with the potential to facilitate meaningful communication between theorists and practitioners.

Development and Application of a Forest Education Program Using the ADDIE Model

  • This study was conducted to develop a forest education program through middle school curriculum linkage. We used the ADDIE model, comprising the five phases of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation, to secure the objectivity of the program. In the Analysis phase, middle school textbooks were analyzed while considering middle school students' needs for curriculum linkage and the developmental stages of adolescents. The Design phase focused on promoting an understanding of curriculum subjects based on what was reviewed in the Analysis phase and concretized and organized a program that can be implemented in the forest, with a focus on science and physical education, based on the results of middle school students' needs. We also established the objectives and goals of curriculum linkage forest education, established the concept of the program, and selected the educational contents, teaching-learning methods, and evaluation methods. In the Development phase, we developed a 2-night, 3-day program linkage with the middle school curriculum and created a manual for instructors and a workbook for students. In the Implementation phase, we revised and supplemented the program through the first test operation with 24 students in their second year of middle school, after which, we carried out a six-session program for the 2-night, 3-day as the second test operation with 17 students in their second year of middle school. In the Evaluation phase, the program was evaluated by the students who participated in the second test operation using questionnaires on satisfaction and curriculum linkage understanding as well as rating scales for attitudes toward forests and environmental sensitivity. The results showed that middle school students showed positive significance in satisfaction and understanding of the middle school curriculum as well as attitudes toward forests and environmental sensitivity through the forest education program.

초등정보영재 교육과정의 현황 및 개선방안 연구 (A Study on the Current Status and Improvement Plans of Gifted Elementary Information Education Curriculum)

  • 현대는 지식 정보화 사회이며 한 나라를 이끌어 갈수 있는 원동력은 지식기반의 산업의 육성에 달려 있다. 또한, 개인의 경쟁력 측면에서도 정보화 능력 및 정보통신기술의 사용은 매우 중요하다. 이런 측면에서 지식 정보화 사회를 이끌어 갈 정보영재의 발굴과 교육은 더욱 중요하다. 현재 정보영재교육은 사교육과 공교육 현장에서 다양하게 진행되고 있다. 본 원고에서는 초등학교 정보영재교육과정의 현황을 대학부설 영재교육원 중심으로 분석하고, 정보영재 교육과정의 개선방안을 다양한 관점에서 제안한다.

2011 중학교 수학과 교육과정의 비판적 고찰: 기하 영역을 중심으로 (A critical review on middle school mathematics curriculum revised in 2011 focused on geometry)

  • 2011 교육과정의 기하 영역에는 명료하지 않게 제시된 부분이 있다. 본 연구에서는 명료하지 않아 교육과정의 의도와 달리 잘못 해석될 가능성이 있는 기호 $\overline{AB}{\perp}\overline{CD}$, 간단한 작도와 합동인 도형의 성질, 삼각형의 결정조건, 회전체, 정당화, 닮음의 중심, 닮음의 위치, 삼각형의 중점 연결 정리, 피타고라스 정리, 원주각의 성질의 불명료성에 관해 논의하고 있다. 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 결론으로서, 차기 중학교 수학과 교육과정의 개발과 관련하여 다음 세 가지 논의 주제를 제공하고자 한다. 첫째는 교육과정에서의 불명료성 해소이다. 둘째는 공신력 있는 해설서의 발행이다. 셋째는 충분한 연구 결과의 축적을 바탕으로 한 교육과정 개발이다.

과학교육 모듈 개발 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on Development of Science Education Modules)

  • Development of science education curriculum and instructional materials have been considered as the matt essential task for the establishment of scince education as an independent discipline, and for the intrenchment of status and identity of colles of Education The aim of this study was to identify the necessity and types for the development of science education curriculum and instructional materials. The nature and structure of science education were discussed in connection with school science subjects, science of education, and the structure of science education system. Also essential theory and practice of modular approach for development of curriculum were investigated in order to organize a guideline for the development of scince education modules. The guideline includes development procedures, major contents. and structure of science education modules which is organized by integration of the nature of scince education and concepts of modular approach for curriculum development.

교사의 교육과정 연수에 대한 권리와 교육행정의 임무 (A right to in-service education on the curriculum and tasks of the educational administration)

  • 이 논문은 교사의 교육과정 연수에 대한 현황을 살펴보고, 교육과정 행정의 임무가 무엇인지 살펴본 것이다. 연구내용은 우선 교원연수와 교육과정 연수의 차별화된 특징이 무엇인지 살펴보았다. 교육과정연수는 교원연수의 일종이지만, 개정 교육과정이 확정·고시된 이후 보급단계가 있고, 실제 적용단계로 구분이 되는 특징이 있었다. 다음으로 교육과정 개발에서 교육과정 연수가 어떠한 위치를 지니는지 확인하였다. 교육과정 개발에서 교육과정 연수는 개정 교육과정에 대한 주요 이해를 위한 것에 있었고, 개발 이후 적용단계에서는 심화된 내용의 연수가 필요함을 확인하였다. 마지막으로 교육과정 연수의 추진 체계과 내용 및 교육과정 행정의 임무에 대해 논의하였다. 논의결과 교육과정 행정은 보급단계와 적용단계의 차별화, 지도·조언의 성격, 교원의 전문성 향상, 연수대상의 다원성의 고려, 연수방법의 다양화, 직무적 성격의 강화, 교외 자주적 연수에 대한 배려 등에 대한 제도의 정비가 요구되었다.

Development of Competency-oriented Social Multimedia Computer Network Curriculum

  • In the revised 2015 curriculum, it is emphasized that fostering of the students as the capable 'creativity-convergent' individuals can be achieved by offering them the opportunities to cultivate the basic knowledge in liberal arts, society and scientific technologies through schooling. While retaining the basic principle of 'fostering creative people', this fundamentally-reformed curriculum involves improvements in the elementary and middle school curriculums in response to the national and social demands in which active responses to the changes in the educational environments and amelioration of the problems posed in the field applications are required. Accordingly, a novel future-oriented curriculum is necessary for the classroom teaching, and to realize the goal, the 'Competence-oriented Social Multimedia Computer Network Curriculum' adopting the virtualization and the 'Bottom-up' methods has been proposed in this paper as a feasible and practical curriculum. Our curriculum will be compared with the recent Cisco high school curriculum and analyzed contemplating recent curriculums in US, UK, Japan and India. Two 1-year practice courses are examined to prove the validity of the proposed curriculum for a period of two years as a qualitative research project. The results of the comparative analysis will show that our proposed curriculum is superior to the Cisco high school curriculum in the aspects of economic feasibility and learning satisfaction.

숙의를 통한 비판과학 관점의 통합 지향적 가정교과 교육과정 개발 (Integrative Home Economics Curriculum Development from a Critical Science Perspective through Deliberation)

  • This study developed an integrative curriculum design plan for Home Economics through a deliberation method. This study established a research framework to integrate the deliberation models of Schwab, Walker, and Reid that inherited the intellectual tradition of curriculum deliberation along with the practical reasoning process of Brown and Paolucci from a critical science perspective. The practical research problem was formulated as "What should be done to develop a Home Economics integrative curriculum?" To address this practical research problem, deliberation with deliberators of each small, medium, and large groups was processed for the development of integrative curriculum design plans. An initial proposal was developed from small group deliberation processes. An initial proposal was examined and an alternative plan was developed from medium group deliberation processes. An alternative plan and its consequence were re-examined from large group deliberation processes. The authors finalized a proposal organized on four valued ends of self-formation, intersubjectivity, social action, and life skills. A practical problem focused integrative curriculum was developed and proposed to pursue the four valued ends. The suggested final practical problem focused curriculum demonstrates the power of Home Economics to contribute to the advancement of individuals, families, and society as well as the practical empowerment of students.

KOICA 석사학위과정 연수자 대상 한국어 교육과정 개발을 위한 학습자 요구분석 -서울대학교 국제대학원과 행정대학원을 중심으로- (Needs Analysis for the Development of a Korean Language Curriculum for Participants in the 'KOICA Scholarship Program')

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the needs of KOICA learners and to suggest some points to be considered in the development of a Korean language curriculum for KOICA Scholarship Program participants. For this purpose, the researcher first constructed questionnaires for analyzing learner needs based on the primary characteristics of learners that can be observed in actual education sites, and conducted a questionnaire survey for 71 trainees from the 'Graduate School of International Studies'(GSIS) and the 'Graduate School of Public Administration'(GSPA) in Seoul National University. Based on the analysis of the results, the researcher proposed several points to consider in terms of objectives, contents of education, methods of teaching, distribution of class time, textbooks and etc. in the development of a Korean language curriculum for KOICA learners. The 'KOICA Scholarship Program' is expected to continue to be implemented in the future, and it is expected that the development of a customized curriculum and corresponding textbooks for KOICA learners will soon be provided by governmental agencies. The researcher hopes that the results of this study can serve as useful reference.

국가직무능력표준(NCS) 기반 교육과정 개발 및 운영에 관한 연구 : H사이버대학 부동산도시미래학부 사례를 중심으로 (A Study on the Development and Operation of a Curriculum Based on National Competency Standard (NCS) : Focus on the Case of Department of Real Estate and Urban Future at Hanyang Cyber University)

  • 산업계 수요에 대응하는 교육과정 개발 및 운영을 위해 국가직무능력표준은 좋은 자원이다. 최근 4년제 대학은 경쟁력 강화를 위해 산업계 수요 중심의 교육과정으로 개편하려는 노력을 기울이고 있다. 하지만 국가직무능력표준은 전문대학, 폴리텍대학 등 직업교육훈련기관에서 기술 인력을 양성하는 데 초점이 맞춰져 있다. 이에 따라 4년제 대학의 국가직무능력활용 사례는 찾아보기 힘들다. 본 연구에서는 NCS 기반 교육과정 개발 및 운영을 위한 새로운 모델을 제시하고자 한다. 또한 NCS는 기존 교육과정을 보완하는데 활용하였다. 본 논문은 다음의 내용을 포함한다; NCS 기반 교육과정 및 교과목 개발 과정, NCS 기반 교과목 운영, 학습자 피드백. 최종적으로 본 연구는 향후 NCS 도입을 고려하는 4년제 대학 및 사이버대학에 실천적인 시사점을 제공할 수 있다.
